If can study hard and learn to spell it, I'll give it to you.

If can put together a complete sentence, I'll take the PALE away from you.

Not sure what you wanted me to see there to change my perspective.

I'll say it again... one off season of this stuff won't make much of a difference.

I think there could be some improvement, how much is hard to say, but any would be appreciated.

Were you around to see how much boxing helped Ed Jones in football when he came back?

So would you say one off-season of weight training stuff won't make much difference as well ?

That is a terrible comparison.

Weight training increases your strength. You don't have to change the way you play to see the results of increased strength.

The karate he's learning forces him to change technique. Technique he has ingrained in his head from playing the same way for the past X years.

I like that he is trying to improve and being proactive, but my fear is that once the game starts, adrenaline flows, and he'll be right back to playing how he's played all these years. Muscle memory... instinct... that kind of thing.

For example... I used to get in a lot of fights when I was a kid (what kid didn't, right?). About the 5th grade, I started taking Shoalin Kempo. But I never used it when I got in more fights. It wasn't until I had been taking it for a number of years before I really started to use it.

Agreed on the first sentence.

And no, I never saw Too Tall play.

"But at the same time, the organization has to make decisions based on 53 guys as opposed to one, two or three."

Sound like someone who understands the big picture.

"I’ve often said I don’t think guys were as bad as people thought they were," Spears said, referring to Owens, Johnson and Jones. "But at the same time, the organization has to make decisions based on 53 guys as opposed to one, two or three. I think our front office and our management probably went back and forth, and they decided to make those moves, and I’m pretty sure they had what was in the best interest of the team."
That's a very intelligent comment. Good for you, Spears.

I coached wrestling for many years and found that Shoalin Kempo was worthless to a guy when I had him in a bow and arrow, a figure four, chicken wing or a variety of moves that my parents never paid someone to teach me. Take out the arms and legs and the mind will follow. For what it's worth, I never got into fights when I was a kid.

Olansky's been a pretty good 3-4 defensive end without the martial arts training.

I really think he's gonna have a solid yr for us. Other than Ratliff, he was our best DL last yr IMO.

Dallas Cowboys’ Spears enters critical final year of contract
By CHAREAN WILLIAMScjwilliams@star-telegram.com

Excellent news about the work and nice read dbair. Thanks. With Spears entering a "contract" year I have no doubt he will step it up on the field. Sadly, many players of this current era are often more focused on the ebb & flow of their contracts versus actual results on the field. That said, I am glad to hear MSpears is putting in some extra work & hope it pays off on the field.

Yeh right. I live in SD and watched this guy play and he was average at best. He is a stop gap player that is no big deal. The team that drafted him cut his playing time down and passed on signing him even at a discount price.....

Do the math...

Igor sucks

Wresting is a very effective means of controlling someone in a real street fight and it applies to everyday situations. Alot of the great MMA fighters like Matt Hughes and Randy Couture started as wrestlers before they went into MMA. However, Karate does help people with football since they are only allowed to use their hands. Why not teach someone the basics of getting hands off you when trying to rush the quarterback. Even Jerry Rice used Karate to beat the jam freely.

The only thing that concerns me is why is Spears going throw the trouble of learning new techniques now? Shouldn't he have been trying to be more of a sack artist before he hit his contract year? I really hope he doesn't get something like 6 sacks, signs a huge contract, and then pull a Ken Hamlin.

Spears made big talk about how when BP left he would really come into his own. Didn't happen. Now he waits until his contract year to take this step despite the fact that Randy has been around for at least the last two years or so trying to help the D Linemen.

By the way the consensus is that Igor and Canty are a wash and pretty much all the evidence shows that. The usual idiots saying i was a fan of that team and he sucks notwithstanding.
