Dallas is allowed to bring one player off IR in a season. Collins walking boot came off 3 weeks ago. Recovery is 8-12 weeks from his Oct 3rd surgery date. Collins recovery is at exactly 8 weeks. Who wants to add him to titanic offensive line?
I would not take any risks with that type of injury. Big Toe ligaments can be a big problem.

It is a tough choice between him and Tapper.
Not really to me. Collins is the easy choice he can play left or right guard. He has shown he can play in the NFL. Tapper has no practice time or playing time in this league.

Is keeping Leary really feasible?
Yes.

The market price is often limited for OGs and his knee condition will also limit his contract.

Yanda averages 8M per.

Teams could have signed Pro Bowler Sitton for 3 years, 7M this season.

My guess is 4 years, 6M per for Leary and it could be less in both years and dollars.

If Collins could play RT like some people believe, then they could dump Free's 5M salary, sign Leary for 6M and only increase the OL cap hit by 1M per. Green could be the Swing Tackle.

Could probably sign Martin and Leary and Claiborne with Romo Cap Savings

If both were healthy and I had to choose 1, it would be an easy decision for me Tapper.

The offensive line is better with Leary in my opinion and the defensive line can use any help they can get.

Guess the next question is, would Leary sign here.

I would definitely try to sign Leary and throw Collins in to replace Free. That would be an epic line. It appears Green can't stay healthy, which IIRC, wasn't that a big knock on him coming out of college?

Certainly possible.

If Ron Leary doesn't find a huge offer at the onset of free agency, Dallas could probably work something out.

But some teams have money to burn and may front load an offer the Cowboys simply won't touch.

If Collins could play RT like some people believe, then they could dump Free's 5M salary, sign Leary for 6M and only increase the OL cap hit by 1M per. Green could be the Swing Tackle.

La'el Collins' future position is the other big part of figuring out the OL going forward.

Collins got a few practices at RT early on as a rookie before moving to LG full-time. I don't think he's taken any snaps at RT since.

And Chaz Green was drafted to be the future RT whenever Doug Free is put to pasture.

How safe is Free in 2017? Will he be back? Will he have to take a pay cut and compete for the job?

I wasn't all that impressed with Collins this season. Collins will have the occasional highlight reel block downfield, but Leary has looked better is pass protection. Hopefully he can come back and be the utility lineman.

I imagine he'll still want to play, but if he decides to retire, I'd keep him within the organization in some capacity. By all accounts, he's been the leader of the line. Pollack could use another assistant next to Columbo.

Agreed.

La'el Collins wasn't lighting the field on fire early on, but he has more natural talent and I expect it would've come out eventually.

Ronald Leary worked his rump off in the off-season, came to training camp in the best shape of his career and it's shown in his play.

Leary wants to cash in as a free agent this off-season and I wish him well.

We'll see what happens on the open market, but I don't expect him back next year.

The guy who comes back will be the guy that gets healthy and can come back
The staff knew they had Leary and still kept Collins at guard. Seems like they think Collins best position is guard, not tackle

I saw Collins play at LSU for four years. There's a reason why the coaching staff there moved him from LG to LT - he has elite lateral mobility that easily translates to strong-side QB protection at the pro level.

Re-sign Leary, dump Free (and Romo), and plug in Collins for the most formidable OLine you'll see in a long while.

Dallas REALLY needs DE help. I know, I know... Collins is the obvious and proven choice but jeeeez!!! The dline needs a shot! If Tapper can provide that, it would be well worth the sacrifice.
