I want to keep Leary, but that money needs to be spent on defense. Id rather overpay for a JPP or Sheldon Richardson than keep Leary. Put Collins at LG and Green at ROT. Make Free the Swing tackle.

I saw Collins play at LSU for four years. There's a reason why the coaching staff there moved him from LG to LT - he has elite lateral mobility that easily translates to strong-side QB protection at the pro level.

Best NFL position, LG or RT?

I'd move Zack Martin to RT before considering La'el Collins, and Martin is staying put.

Martin is a better NFL guard than tackle, same goes for Collins.

Re-sign Leary, dump Free (and Romo), and plug in Collins for the most formidable OLine you'll see in a long while.

Keep Collins at LG, let Leary sign with the highest bidder (revisit if no big deal is offered), see if Free will take a pay cut and compete for the job next year and let Romo go if another team will give up something.

Hope not. Leary is better

Right now.

Collins has a higher ceiling and better long term prospects.

Leary's knee might last 5 years or 5 days.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. If you aren't using Collins at OT (in the Cowboys case, RT), you aren't getting his full potential as a lineman. He has the lateral mobility and nastiness that reminds me of a young Erik Williams.

You can only spend so much on a unit. We don't need All Pros on every position. Let Leary walk and draft a T and C/G in the draft like a 3rd and 4th. Keep Free another year CYA type thing. Spend the rest on D.

We could potentially re-sign Leary and rebuild the defense if we trade/cut Romo. We have a four/five year window to spend big before Dak and Zeke's rookie contracts expire.

The OL is good enough to win a Super Bowl with.

The DL is not. Give me Tapper and try to improve the pass rush.

I doubt we will see Collins or Tapper this year, we will roll with what we have...

Just as long as the O keeps rolling....

I'll take Collins over Leary.

People will protest and then forget all about it down the road when it's obvious I'm right.
yup Leary may be better right now but he is at his ceiling, lets not forget it took leary 3 years to get to the point he is at, and all those saying collins is not as good as leary, Collins is in his 2nd year.

Yes.

The market price is often limited for OGs and his knee condition will also limit his contract.

Yanda averages 8M per.

Teams could have signed Pro Bowler Sitton for 3 years, 7M this season.

My guess is 4 years, 6M per for Leary and it could be less in both years and dollars.

If Collins could play RT like some people believe, then they could dump Free's 5M salary, sign Leary for 6M and only increase the OL cap hit by 1M per. Green could be the Swing Tackle.
Leary's knee is sound and if he does not have a significant injury to it, it will remain sound.

he is not a dancing bear which is what he needs to be as an OT, He could be serviceable but you are taking a guy that will be pro bowl guard and possibly an All Pro LG and making him play RT where I think he can play but he will be the 5th best guy on the line that will have trouble with quick DE

Leary is that guy that does everything right but is always the odd man out. I just don't get it.
I mean have you guys been watching? Leary is a big part of this offensive line. He's outplayed Collins and it's not even debatable. I love Collins and I think he fits in nice. But give me Leary right now all day.

Maybe, but i don't think it necessary to be great at every position. Free is an above average tackle who gets the job done for the most part. These are the type of filler players necessary on championship teams that allows you retain your top players with the occasional FA.

One guy does not break the bank. I will be surprised if they don't bid on Leary but they will likely lose him.

I find this whole topic so ironic when I can remember being one of the few defenders of Leary and Free and now most want to resign Leary next year and Free this year. (not directed at you @rpatricc)

Fickle is the best word I can use at the moment.

I said that a while ago and some didn't agree... They probably still think Romo is the starter and he's from Dakota

I hear you. Makes sense. But I'd see just how much it would take first to re-sign Leary.

It's a shame that Chaz cant stay on the field for more than a commercial break. You literally cant even include him in future plans beyond him being a backup. When he clearly has above average starting RT ability.

So is the belief at the Star that Collins cant play RT at the NFL level?

Yeah, like you really went out on a limb.
That limb isn't as strong as you act like. Leary, to me, has played at a Pro Bowl level this season. If you're going to lose him, you'd better get a quality pick for him. He's saved our bacon this season by moving right in without the line missing a beat. Those guys don't grow on trees. Who will be your backup interior lineman next year? Whoever it it, he probably won't be able to fill Leary's shoes.

I would do that in a heartbeat.
