BATON ROUGE -- Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, who won four national awards and All-America honors in 2007, probably always will be LSU football's most decorated defensive player.

Rusty Costanza/The Times-PicayuneLSU cornerback Patrick Peterson won the Thorpe and Bednarik trophies and is a consensus first-team All-America selection. But seldom has LSU produced a player whose skills are so over-the-top and readily apparent.
But he wasn't routinely described as a "freak," modern-day parlance for a player with amazing skills and size. That's where Tigers junior cornerback Patrick Peterson has Dorsey beat.

Blessed with cornerback skills packaged into the body of a linebacker, Peterson may wind up being recognized as the greatest defensive player in LSU history after he plays in the AT&T Cotton Bowl on Jan. 7 in Arlington, Texas.

It's also almost a cinch to be Peterson's final game as a Tiger. He's NFL ready, with a 6-foot-1, 220-pound body, 4.3 speed in the 40-yard dash, the agility of a jackrabbit and seemingly all the intangibles a pro team would want.

Peterson has his own haul of national honors. He won the Thorpe and Bednarik trophies and is a consensus first-team All-America selection. But seldom has LSU produced a player whose skills are so over-the-top and readily apparent.

exactly, we need impact players on this team, a player like dez but on defense,

if we can get peterson or frailey, i would be happy in the first round :star:

I don't want Fairley.

I would give my first born for Patrick Peterson.

Okay maybe that's extreme, haha, but seriously...being a self-proclaimed Defensive Backs freak, this guy is once in a decade. He is that good, and his ceiling is that high.

I;d give my first born! imagine if we get him and Deunta Williams

I guess I just missed the guy that everybody else is seeing. I don't know, maybe watched the wrong games or something. When I watched him, I didn't see the same guy that I read about.

Honestly, I think this guy is another Julian Peterson or Derrick Brooks. I don't see Deion.

Lol, unbelievable.

I think a lot of his mystique is hype as well, not to the point of thinking he's a LB, but you'd think the guy was just the best DB prospect of the last 20 years or something.

It's part of the reason why I think we'll be able to get him if we want him, but he is certainly a good player with the ability to be special in the right system. (Read: not one where you line up 15 yards off your man on 3rd and short)

I sit here and look for consilation prizes if we miss out on Peterson and it's like losing a chance at a BMW and getting a Kia.

This might be one time I could care less if Jerry sold the draft farm for a guy.

Would love to have Peterson or Amukamara if the Cowboys look to go with CB early in the draft.

I don't think Prince is worthy of a #6 overall pick personally. I think there's actually pretty good depth at CB in this draft.

Just about everything I have read on Prince indicates he is worthy of #6...of the 5-7 blue chip prospects in this draft, prince is one of them.

Your entitled to your opinion. I see him as a top 10 pick and the 2nd best CB in the draft.

It's true, the LSU hype machine is one to be reckon with.

I've always been wary of LSU players, particularily WRs. Having said that, I've watched Peterson play a lot and I can confidently say this kid is a special talent. He's a supreme competitor (which in my book is paramount), he's got great size, tremendous ball skills and is a dynamic player once the ball is in his hands.

I agree with him being both a Top 10 player and being the 2nd best CB.

Really it's splitting hairs but I think #6 is just a few spots too high.

As I said if Dallas is looking to fill the CB then a couple of spot higher than some may project is not too much of a move. It is not like drafting a guy projected as a top 20 and taking him at 6 or 7. If Cowboys are looking to upgrade the OL then try and swap the 1st rd pick for a mid 1st rd and get the additional 2nd rd pick. Main thing is getting BPA that can fill a need without over reaching. to me taking a top 10 player at 6 or 7 is not a reach

Not really. Just an observation.

So you're telling me you've watched Patrick Peterson play and you came away thinking of Julian Peterson and Derrick Brooks?

I just want to be clear.

Before we go down this road, did you watch Julian Peterson play at Michigan State 140 Tackles, 25 Sacks in 23 games after coming to MSt. as a JC and did you see Derrick Brooks, two time First Team All -American, 274 Tackles, Five INTs., 8.5 Sacks, at Florida State?

I only ask because they both started as Safeties.

In answer to your question, Yes, I have seen him play both this year and last. He doesn't look like a shut down CB to me. He looks like a guy who plays Zone better then man. I don't watch LSU every week, as I have already said, but I just don't see this all world CB everybody else does.
