Who is talking about running to negative numbers? Commit to the run and play action. We’re not trotting out Brady behind center. You can bet your arse SF will be committed to getting Mcaffry his touches.
Running to negative numbers is what smash mouth is. It means running no matter what.

They will absolutely not force his touches if they do not have numbers advantages, not running the ball anyway.

Malik Davis will be brought up from the practice squad to replace Rico. Luepke won't be the guy that spells Pollard.
4 RBs / 3TE is too much to carry in playing 45. Something has to give( Vaughn will be inactive)

It’s a no brainer. If Rico is out, this dude should get some real carries. You will not beat the 9rs with finesse. Smash mouth football from the get go. Let’s goooooo!
I like Luepke as the #2 because he complements Pollard better. Luepke complements Pollard while they're both on the field. Let Luepke pass block and play between the tackles, while Pollard spends more time on the edges and going out in patterns, particularly deep.

Here you go putting your foot in your mouth again with your rhetoric.

You don't know what the hell you are talking about.
Nope. I am right. The more people like you disagree with me the more I am certain that I am right. Outside of biblical weather, there is absolutely no reason to every prioritize "smash mouth" football - whatever that even means.

"Every down is a throwing down." - Andy Reid

You can whine about me all you want, but until you have an actual definition of what "smash mouth is" and tangible, real data to validate it's utility, shut up. Congrats on Googling how to spell "rhetoric," but you won't convince me you actually know what it is.

Luepke isn’t the ideal choice. He only has three carries for 16 yards. He’s more of a FB, he’s not going break any runs for you. No one is going to fear him. He’s a good choice in short yardage and goal line but that’s about it.

Luepke wasn’t scouted to be great between the tackles.

That’s more of a perception of “he’s a FB so he must be good in the middle”.

He went in untouched because of his read and cut

Watch vid, play designed to go over LG Tyler S, Luepke read it wasn’t there as he received handoff. Pressed the left hole anyway, but then cut right side to day light...
Simple and easy read. Any decent back sees that monster hole.

I don't understand why people are giving so much credit for that run.

It's fundamental for any NFL RB. You cut the guys who can't make it, not celebrate the ones who do lol
80% of fans dont really understand what they are seeing. Or they just watch the quick highlights or look at the stats.

A FB doesn't need to be great between the tackles to be very productive.

It's the multiple threats he brings to the field that deliver the value. A running QB can't be a RB, but he can run and be productive.

I get it. He’s going to be more useful as a blocker who drifts out for screens.

I was responding to the poster(s) who kept saying Luepke could consistently batter d-lines inside and score against stacked defenses at the goal line.

He’s not that type of full back. That’s really just a carryover from the “old day” perception by fans who still remember the NFL of the 70s and 80s with guys like Riggins and Cszonka.

Modern fullbacks would be better off emulating Larry centers and even DJ who was much better as a pass catcher than a rusher.
