I was so glad to see Spencer out at the end of the game..Zoners Im not saying start Butler but go back and watch the pressure this guy was putting on McNabb at the end of the game. This guy has 3 total sacks this year and all 3 are with the game on the line..He came in late in the Carolina game and sacked Delhomme twice. Spencer who plays opposite Ware for most the game has 0 sacks. Go back and look at McNabb under pressure on the final drive until that last play he got to McNabb. Im for seeing more of Butler!

I would make Butler the 3rd and long and late-game pass rushing specialist.

Spencer is better against the run and know his assignments better right now.

I wouldn't start Butler over Spencer

but I sure as hell wouldn't give Spencer 98% of the snaps either

I agree they need to share those snaps and put butler in on obvious passing downs..he seems to have a thing for getting to the QB..

It's easy to be a home run hitter when you sit on the bench all game and come in fresh in the 4th quarter. When Butler is as effective at playing the run and playing coverage as Spencer, then I'll bite.

Don't get me wrong, I love what I'm seeing out of Butler. But, as of now, he's his own Troy Hambrick to Spencer's Emmitt.

It's cool to see that people are remembering those past bandwagons. I agree though, Butler has earned some playing time for sure, it would be good to see him get a series or a few plays here or there, if nothing else it should help Spencer play with more energy and get Butler more comfortable if he's needed in a big game.

Spencer leads all 3-4 OLBs in QB pressures, he plays the run great and is very good in coverage.

He's a lot better then a lot of people here give him credit for

Wasn't that Spencer who missed McNabb on the Eagles longest play of the night? He is always so close but yet so far. Sooner or later he will get a sack or make a game changing play.

I don't know why some are so adamant about not letting a guy who has 3 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, in about 15 snaps, see more playing time?

maybe if Spencer gets more of a breather, some of those "oh so close" moments could turn into sacks and fumbles

Ehhh, I wouldn't change a whole lot, but would certainly get him some more snaps. I really like what Dallas has at LB, or will have next season when they get their injured rookies back.

I like the idea of Ware and Spencer as starters, with Butler and B. Williams spelling Spencer on third downs, and giving Ware an occasional breather. I think it's what Dallas had in mind when drafting them, and the idea that they could be big contributors on special teams while developing. I also like the idea of James and Brooking starting with Carpenter, J. Williams, Hodge, and possibly Johnson playing certain packages.

I think that's a strong core of line backers with a good mix of veterans, youth, and athletic ability. They've got some guys in there that can get after the QB, some guys who can drop into coverage well, some guys who shut down the run, and some guys with outstanding special teams potential. Knock the 2009 draft all you want, but I think it was done to create just this mixture, and done well.

I like Spencer a lot, but I hope Butler can learn all the small things necessary to be a successful 3-4 LB'er because he seems to have decent instincts getting to the QB. There is a lot more to it than just rushing the passer.

Butler looked pretty good, albeit a desparation grab at McNabb's ankle for the critcal stop, but, he's coming in on fresh legs, and isn't worried about the Eagles running the ball, or even throwing a screen. I wouldn't change his role any time soon, and would let him continue to get experience , increasing his playing time appropriately.

Correctomundo! Keep the starters fresh. In the Eagles game, the starting defense was on the field a lot in the second quarter. Let the reserves come along slowly, and use them when they're best able to contribute.

Ditto.

Everyone measures players by sacks. There is more to a play then a sack. Getting pressure on the quarterback is what is key. I'd like to see him get sacks, but I am more than happy to know that he is getting consistent pressure on the QB.
