Spencer leads all 3-4 OLBs in QB pressures, he plays the run great and is very good in coverage.

He's a lot better then a lot of people here give him credit for

I agree! He actually played well last night IMO.

I don't know why some are so adamant about not letting a guy who has 3 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, in about 15 snaps, see more playing time?

maybe if Spencer gets more of a breather, some of those "oh so close" moments could turn into sacks and fumbles

I read somewhere that Spencer leads the team in QB hits if that means anything to you guys.

Anthony Spencer is a complete 3-4 outside linebacker who drops in coverage more than his counterpart Demarcus Ware due to playing on the strongside.

Spencer still has occasional snafus in the running game, but it is a strength and he will only get better at it with experience.

He's the best outside 'backer in coverage on the team.

And while sacks have proved elusive this season, he is getting regular pressures and hits on the quarterback.

I wish nfl.com would track "pressures" to make it easier to keep track of, the teams do it and it's a very important stat.

I'm not concerned about Spencer, the sacks will come and he will continue to improve.

At the same time, I'm very disappointed in Wade Phillips not having a rotation going by now. Victor Butler deserves more snaps and even Demarcus Ware should get some plays off every week on defense.

Alternating defenders, whether it's a three man or four man group, will make the entire unit better in the long term.

It's a mistake to just think about the week at hand, you have to also consider what will help you down the road.

I think both should be used in the rotation. Both have their strengths that benefit the defense. However, I would like to see Butler get more reps in pass situations. It seems he has a knack for finding the QB.

Butler. Well I'd rather see butler in for more snaps. I'm still amazed at the david blaine trick spencer pulled at the denver game

It's easy to be a home run hitter when you sit on the bench all game and come in fresh in the 4th quarter. When Butler is as effective at playing the run and playing coverage as Spencer, then I'll bite.

Don't get me wrong, I love what I'm seeing out of Butler. But, as of now, he's his own Troy Hambrick to Spencer's Emmitt.

Well spencer was comming in for Ellis and He wasnt a home run hitter. I think it's safe to say Butler is a better pass rusher.

He was coming in on run downs, not passing downs. Flawed logic.

I would make Butler the 3rd and long and late-game pass rushing specialist.

Spencer is better against the run and know his assignments better right now.
I like this answer the best.

Are you serious? It's NOT easy to come in for a few reps & get 3 sacks & a FF in a handful of 4th quarter plays! If it's so easy, why isn't Spence getting a ton at the beginning of the 1st quarter when HE's fresh? I don't care how close Spencer gets, or how much pressure he puts. As long as the QB is erect, there is a chance for a big play.

So what if Butler can't play the run right now. That's not what is being asked. When it's an obvious passing situation, you need to have your best pass rushers in the game...period. No way Spencer gets to McNabb on that play. How can Butler prove he can play even on tired legs when he's not given a chance to come in at all unless someone is hurt.

You make the point about fresh legs. Wouldn't that be a great reason to rotate Spencer & Butler on passing downs? That way, they BOTH have fresher legs. Right now, Butler is the next best PR LB next to DW. Putting him in on passing downs just makes sense...period.

It's also safe to say Anthony Spencer was spelling Greg Ellis on running downs with El coming back in for obvious passing situations.

Spencer was not used as an exclusive pass rusher last season.

And I agree about increasing Victor Butler's snaps, BTW.

I don't like how we have been exhausting both our starting outside 'backers this season. Ware is capable of not getting breathers, Spencer is not at this point, but it's a bad idea for both.

A rotation would make everyone better.

A gradually increasing rotation for Butler depending on how he does. The more he plays the more likely he is to get exploited on screens and the such plays. Spencer gets fooled enough as it is.

It will be hard to take Ware out of the game. I don't see it happening. They never rested LT.

But it's still the right thing to do.

One series in the first half, is that too much?

If the offense starts driving, Ware can always come in.

There have been times when Ware and Anthony Spencer have been gassed at the end of games and that can bite us.

Wasn't that Spencer who missed McNabb on the Eagles longest play of the night? He is always so close but yet so far. Sooner or later he will get a sack or make a game changing play.

Yes...Spencer...."I almost got there Spencer"

Why does Spencer get a pass....as where Carpenter doesn't?
Oh, wait....it's the band wagon "I hate Barbie" group.....

Yes, I will take Spencer over Carpenter at this point, but....oh well, never mind....

I mean he was there and McNabb got rid of it on a screen, not much else he could have done on that one.

Why can't we have both?

Spencer's the starter, Butler the backup. Right now, accept that having Butler not start means he can come in with fresh legs in the 2nd half of games and do things like...trip up Donovan McNabb on a key down.
