I agree rotate them..Let spencer play the run and have butler in on passing downs..Spencer to me just dont have that IT factor to him..He always so close but always a step away from the QB. Maybe spencer is tired after playing the run..he's a good run stopper. Butler can rush QB.

Agreed! All of these people who defend Spencer by saying that Butler comes in during the 4th quarter with fresh legs are making our point. If bringing in fresh legs means sacks & forced fumbles during late game drives, I'm all for it. But Butler has shown that he's more than just a one drive player. Every time he comes into the game, he makes things happen. He has that IT.

Just think how much more effective DWare could be if he had a legitimate threat opposite him. I think it's a no-brainer, myself.

Are you serious? It's NOT easy to come in for a few reps & get 3 sacks & a FF in a handful of 4th quarter plays! If it's so easy, why isn't Spence getting a ton at the beginning of the 1st quarter when HE's fresh? I don't care how close Spencer gets, or how much pressure he puts. As long as the QB is erect, there is a chance for a big play.

So what if Butler can't play the run right now. That's not what is being asked. When it's an obvious passing situation, you need to have your best pass rushers in the game...period. No way Spencer gets to McNabb on that play. How can Butler prove he can play even on tired legs when he's not given a chance to come in at all unless someone is hurt.

You make the point about fresh legs. Wouldn't that be a great reason to rotate Spencer & Butler on passing downs? That way, they BOTH have fresher legs. Right now, Butler is the next best PR LB next to DW. Putting him in on passing downs just makes sense...period.

Butler is also in only on obvious passing downs. He plays late in games because his skills set is situational. The more he's out there the more he's exposed. He looks great, now. Wait until the opposing team figures out he can't defend the run and their ripping off 7 yards a carry on his side of the field. I'm going to go out on a limb and suppose that Wade Phillips has a better understanding of where he is and what he's ready for than the slew of internet defensive geniuses.

I think it's safe to say that Spencer is the better all-around linebacker and it's the reason he's getting the snaps. I have a feeling alot of these posters are the same ones that were in a hurry to replace Greg Ellis' 8-10 sacks a year with Spencer to begin with.

UMMMMM, Spencer or Butler, ummmmmm ummmm this thread is idiotic. Spencer is the better player and i dont really think its an argument at the point. In two or three years maybe, but who wants to see Butler in coverage or playing even 50 percent of the time. When he start missing assignment and people start running all over him then people will complain. Can we get real here.

Ridiculous question. Spencer hands down no questions asked. Spencer is going to be very good in this league.

Spencer was drafted as a passrusher... in the 3-4 the OLBs have to have more than ZERO sacks after 8 games! I think Spencer may be better in his role last yr.... as far as VButler, I have yet to see him play every down... but Im sure he can play the "Run" as well if not better than Spencer.

Either way I say draft another OLB who can rush the passer every down

I believe the Cowboys just need to stick with whom they have now. So Spencer needs to produce, if not, he should be competing for his position. "May the best man win"...

Not a fan of Spencer, but even I would not start Butler over Spencer. But giving Butler more snaps is necessary, especially on obvious passing downs.

What is interesting to me is that Butler is actually not as bad in coverage as I originally thought, I believe Butler drops back in zone (b/c Carp blitzes) on the play that he trips McNabb. Butler just gets there in a hurry (before McChunky) crosses the LOS.

On a completely different note, I really wanted Sensabaugh to blast into McNabb when he was falling forward. I think he jars the ball loose if he does that, instead he lets up (which he rarely does).

No, he doesn't; he rushes.

So you really don't know much about what you're trying to talk about?

you read no good

he was talking about on that particular play

and if you look at the replay from behind McNabb, when he begins to scramble, you can see Butler about 5 yards back

You don't know **** do you?

He was 5 yards back because he got no push in his pass rush. He was lined up as the left DT on that play and ran a stunt towards the middle only to track Mcnabb after Bowen and Hatcher had crashed the pocket, rushing Mcnabb out of it.

When it comes to this part of the game, you don't know and you should keep quiet about it:laugh2:
