Sporting News: Adding Roy Williams Not The Smartest Move

Some of the stuff at the turd is entertaining but I just can't see why Florio would think it is such a bad move.

He said it would be a 1st next spring. So basically Dallas overpaid to the tune of a 3rd rounder.

That 7th/6th swap will be within 20 picks, possible as little as 10 and thats including comp picks and at that stage in the game, that really doesn't make much of a difference.

A 3rd rounder. Not bad. I'll take it.

Heres a little snippet of mid-end 3rd rounders from 2000-2006. Didn't include 07 or 08 because you can't judge in that short of time.

Anyone see a whole bunch of winners on there? Couple per year, at max.

Given that alternative, I'll take the trade Florio.

The lack of knowledge is staggering.

Florio first incorrectly assumes that either Boldin or Johnson were available when the fact is they weren't.

He then talks about the number of draft picks Dallas gave up while omitting the number of picks the Cowboys still have.

Why?

It would ruin his already weak case.

And then he uses the lame "one football" excuse.

Well, I guess your Steelers made a mistake drafting Mendenhall then, right? (actually, maybe they did!) since they already had Parker (keyword had) and there's only one football and all, yada, yada, yada...

He also neglects to mention Jerry Jones' own comments about being after Roy Williams for two years, either because he didn't know or again because it hurts the agenda.

The fact is that this trade rubs some the wrong way because the 'rich got richer'.

The most talented team in the league added yet another weapon and the folks on the outside don't like it.

Guess what?

Too bad.

Your team could have traded for him and didn't.

Be mad at them.

I think it's funny how everyone assumes Chad Johnson,TJ and Anquan are all better than Roy Williams.
Tell me something...who would you rather have throwing you the ball...Kurt Warner,Carson Palmer or John Kitna?
Just like everyone was knocking Jerry after getting Leonard Davis this is exactly the same. Roy played for a team that was a perennial losing team. With a GM who couldn't draft to save his life.
I have yet to see anyone who gives a legit "on the field" reason why getting Roy Williams was a bad idea.
When the media can not find a good reason to knock the Cowboys they go back to the perceptions of Owens or Jerry Jones. TO can not exist with Roy cause TO wants the ball more. Jerry is overpaying for star players again.
Must be nice to get paid writing the same stories over and over.

"The reality is they didn't need another receiver. Patrick Crayton has been solid, and Witten has been putting up wideout numbers."

Do you think Crayton is a #1 and could he handle the job if TO got hurt?

That is a great question. Which means he will not get the point.

I'm glad that guy is no longer playing. Just an arrogant *******.

I remember seeing that interview after some crazy catch that was pretty much all luck. Similar to the Crayton TD a few weeks ago and they ask him a question and his reply was something like.

"I just want to thank my hands for being so great".

Just a prime example of what you should tell all athletes to NEVER be like. Self-centered washout. Wonder how those hands are doing now?

Yea I've noticed he tends not to answer questions that would make him go against what he thinks

I can never remember who is who between Nors and eduncan because they both literally leave me shaking me head, asking my computer screen "what, what the hell did that guy just say"?

If Williams had finished the year in Detroit and the Lions had applied the franchise tag, a first-round pick at most would have been the price.

I thought it was 2 first round picks for a franchise player?

Yes-a franchise tag means if they choose to let him go to another team subsequently, then the compensation would be 2 first rounders.

Roy #11 as a #7 first round pick has not produced. Hence Detroit unloaded him.

With all due respect(that isn't due) you don't know ****. 3600 yards and 28 TDs in his first 4 years isn't production?

Obviously. For some reason, he thinks people still believe he's really a Cowboys fan and not a Pats fan. ;)

So Jerry could have waited for the offseason and gotten Roy for just a first round pick? O.K. Florio, ya think maybe getting him for this season is worth paying the extra third?
