Sporting News: Adding Roy Williams Not The Smartest Move

Lol, poor sports writers will be eating crow for awhile. They manipulate facts to make it seem like we are in "Sky Falling" mode. Then they are going to make a 180 when Roy Williams proves them wrong.

I fail to see howing emotion on TOs part in wanting the team to be better because we are so much better then we are playing, makes him an idiot?

All this does is test the character of a team. No team in the NFL goes thru a season 100% healthy... It's how we battle back from the injuries and turmoil that makes us champions.

Right now OUR cowboys are having their heart tested... That i think is the major problem right now. Not injuries, Heart...

We need on the field leaders like a Darren Woodson or a Troy Aikman.

IMHO our head coach is not doing a sufficent job of providing the type of leadership we need.

Not to say he isnt a good coach but I dont think his methods are the best for the type of players we have.

After a slap in the face from the Commanders and the CARDINALS. Maybe it will open our eyes.

You need HEART to win in this league, not just talent.

Ill take Roy Williams and 9 Draft Picks over 10 Draft Pics any day of the week and twice on sunday...

Anyway just a couple thoughts on our current problems...

The sad thing is, theyll never admit it. :banghead:

I love how the writer asks why we didn't make a play for Anquan Boldin or Chad Johnson.Heck, might as well ask why we didn't make a play for Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald or Greg Jennings. We obviously missed out. :bang2: While we're at it, Jerry's an idiot not to have landed Champ Bailey before the trade deadline to fix our corner woes. And it sure would have been nice to have Jay Cutler as a backup. Geebus.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that Roy Williams was available, while those others were not. The Cardinals weren't trading Anquan before the season; why would they trade him now that they're in the playoff hunt? The Bengals wouldn't give up Chad Johnson before the season for two 1sts and have shown no sign of changing their stance. Also, I find it funny the writer slips Chad's name in there as if he truly thinks we should have gone in that direction. Uh huh. Just imagine the media circus we'd get slamming the move (save Deion).

As for two other points. I love how suddenly wide receiver was a strength all around for us. Funny, all offseason all we heard about was how much trouble we would be in if TO went down and how we had no young guy to take over for the 34-year-old. Yeah, that, plus the fact Crayton wasn't a difference-making No. 2 receiver, had nothing to do with our decision to go after Roy.

Greg Jennings is the man!!!!!

Sporting News- not exactly the smartest reading around.

Or to be more to the point:

Sporting News- Sports News by Dumbies

here is the thing about sportswriters that really grates my nerves....they make predictions...and when they don't come true...they keep picking and poking and probing and twisting in an effort to MAKE them come true. The first time RW catche more balls than TO..and TO says NOTHING...the media will keep asking him if he is botherd. Why? Because it is an easy story for them to write....and it will allow them stroke there own ego for being right.

man, I am surprised to read so much neg press about Roy W.

It's a Cowboy hater thing. People were all ready to throw dirt on us Tuesday. They all had their repective stories ready to pile on the injured and beat down team. Then, just before they could run all of their little features, Jerry Jones one upped them and made one of the biggest midseason trades in a long time. Basically, killing their celebration.

Like someone posted above, if it had been the Eagles, they would have moved up five spots in everyones power rankings, especially ESPN's.

Probably, but don't be too hard on him... if you read the FAQs, you'll learn that all posters are required to insult Nors at least once in every 500 posts...

I'm safe until I get more posts than Hos has... :D

I stopped reading after he wrote: TO > Still and idiot. What does that have to do with anything? Yeah, great article!

I read this in Vela's blog, TBSR. It was posted by Vela in the comments. According to Vela, here is a breakdown of Chad Johnson, Roy E. Williams, and Anquan Bolden according to K.C. Joyner's YPA stats for wide receivers. Joyner breaks down a wide receiver's YPA as it relates to red, yellow, green, and non-rated cornerbacks. Red is the best. Then, green... yellow...ect.. For Example, Terence Newman rated as a red corner for 20007 according to Joyner. This is only for 2007. Remember, 2006 was Williams' best year.

Chad Johnson

Red 6.7
Yellow 7.4
Green 14.3
non-R 9.8
Overall 9.0

Roy E. Williams

Red 4.3
Yellow 8.7
Green 12.3
non-R 10.4
overall 9.1

Anquan Bolden

Red 4.9
Yellow 7.1
Green 15.6
non-R 10.2
overall 9.2

According to Vela, Chad Johnson matched up with red cornerbacks twice as much as Williams did. Johnson's 6.7 YPA against Joyner's top rated corners was very good. Obviously, Chad Johnson is a number one receiver. His work against red corners separates him from Bolden and Williams to a certain degree. Check this out.

T.O. put up a 9.4 YPA on Joyner's Red corners. That is torching them. On the other hand Patrick Crayton only put up a 2.6 YPA on the red corners. That should tell anyone about Dallas' need for a number 2 receiver.

Why post this?

Look at Roy Williams numbers against yellow and green corners. He lit them up. Vela uses Joyner's work to build a strong case for trading for Roy E. Williams. Vela says that Williams will be a perfect number 2 WR in this offense. Moreover, he states that Williams is younger than Chad Johnson, and he has all the tools to be the number one WR some day.

Some fans wanted Bolden, but Williams' YPA stats (for Joyner) match up with Bolden all day long. All three WRs stats are close to each other in this analysis.

Also you have to consider the qb's who are throwing to these wr's.
That also makes a difference. And it's going to show how underrated Roy has been.

Ok, so all of a sudden u cowboys fans became expert NFL analyst, talking bout bad trade this n dat, first off ur entitled to ur opinion, but some of u start critisizing him, like if ya even had 1/20th of the money he has, ya go and make comments bout him .... Now I know they're gonna be people saying if they had the money they would invest their money differently... BS.. Jerry been doing this for how long???? And all of a sudden a rookie Is going try to make it better then himt????!!!!! Lol!!!!!

YEAH!!!!! Dat's wut I'm talkin bout.

Roy Williams hasn't played one down for the Cowboys and some media doofus is already saying signing him was a mistake. I would say it is a bit premature to be calling the acquisiton of Roy Williams a failure.

All I can say is if T.O. gets hurt, someone at PFT is going to have to chow down on his own words. Ditto if Roy helps us win a playoff game, etc.
