I love this time of year because it actually feels like Christmas in the Spring. Draft week is finally here and this mock will look quite different from my last one.

Round 1: Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers

McCourty very well may not be on the board when the Cowboys select, as the Ravens have serious interest in the player. I'm assuming TE Jermaine Gresham will also be on the board, so him and McCourty could be the two players the Ravens will decide between. If they go with Gresham, McCourty is definitely the man for Dallas. He fills two needs for one draft pick, returner and dime cornerback. This move will allow Alan Ball to move full-time to safety, unless we land a free agent like OJ Atogwe (Hos, I used an "A" this time :D). A safe, solid pick that will pay dividends down the road when Newman decides to hang up the boots.

Round 2: ***TRADE*** Dallas trades DE Marcus Spears and its 2nd round pick to move up and selects:

Tyson Alualu, DE/DT, California

This was the perfect opportunity to deal with disgruntled Spears. Alualu is a hot name that is moving up boards, due to his versatility and ability to play the five and three technique in the 34. I feel like will be the time Dallas deals a player, and it makes perfect sense because Spears is a restricted free agent, and you'll be able to sign Alualu for a much less price for the next 4-5 years.

Round 3: JD Walton, C, Baylor

The Cowboys stay put here, and go with Gurode's future replacement at center. I'm honestly not sure about Walton's ability to play guard, but he's a smart and instinctive player who will be best suited at center. Walton allows flexibility on the offensive line. If a player such as Kosier gets injured again, this would allow Gurode to slide over to guard, and Walton can fill in at center. This is a solid pick and the Cowboys are obviously interested in him after bringing him in for Dallas Day.

Round 4: I see Jerry trading down here to get that 5th round pick back, while getting another 6th as well. Friday going into Saturday will be an important part of the draft and Jerry will want a pick in that first round of Saturday.

Round 5: Marshall Newhouse, OG/OT, Texas Christian

A solid, developmental pick who is probably best suited at guard in the pros. The Cowboys do have interest in the kid and is GREAT value for the 5th round. Players like Holland and McQuistan will not be on the roster in 2010, so another interior lineman will definitely be needed to develop. You already drafted your future center in Walton, and now you get your developmental guard to hopefully take over for Kosier in the next year or two.

Round 6a: Emmanuel Sanders, WR, SMU

Round 6b: John Connor, FB, Kentucky

Round 7: Aaron Morgan, DE/OLB, Louisiana-Monroe

Enjoy! All thoughts, comments and concerns are welcomed. :star:

I really like it. I could actually seeing a couple of those players Cowboys by the end of the weekend.

In your scenario, who starts at FS? A competition between Ball and M Hamlin? Or are you assuming JJ picks up a FA or makes a trade post-Draft?

Who knows what the OP thinks in this scenario but I wonder about the Dolphins or Patriots possibly trading for spears.

Like it. Really like it, actually, assuming there's a realistic trade partner for Spears/our 2nd.

A team like Miami who selects at number 43. Miami needs DL help and Parcells was the guy who wanted Spears (even before Ware ).

I really think the Cowboys are waiting on Atogwe, if and when he becomes an unrestricted free agent in June I believe. If they cannot land Atogwe, I still think they have to bring a veteran safety in. I like Ball a lot, but I don't think you can put all your eggs in one basket with him.

I'm hoping M. Hamlin becomes the starting SS in 2011; apparantly the coaching staff really loves the kid.

Exactly what I was thinking with Miami or NE.

Fair enough. I think Atogwe is a possibility in June as well.

In any case, that was a nice mock draft!

Very nice.

I am not crazy about a corner in the first and I wish there was a safety, but McCourty is a quality returner too.

And the more I read up about Conner the more I want him.

No doubt. And who needs an OL when you have John Connor? The guy destroyed the Terminator (I know the movie jokes are getting ridiculous :laugh2:)

This will be Ball's 4th season. I think he's really going to come into his own. I think we're going to target Atogwe but we won't give the house for him, if it's a reasonable deal I think he'll be in a Dallas uniform. I think we have reasonable faith in Ball, he played well last season when called upon, and last year was just his 3rd year in the league.

I think Mike Hamlin has more than a ways to go to take the starting SS spot. He's going to have to show in the preseason that he can cover as he ran a 4.57 40. Sensy is a lot better than people gave him credit for and plays hard, he shut down every athletic tight end we played this season, that's not easy to do. Sensy ran a 4.44 40 for comparisons sake, and had a 46 inch vertical. He's a phenomenal athlete. Hamlin has his work cut out for him.

Can't argue with any of that. One thing we can agree on is that competition makes everyone better, so I'm all for competing for starting jobs. Look what that did for Mike Jenkins; even Scandrick stepped up his game in the 2nd half of the season.

Good thought. I keep hearing that Dallas would take this guy with their first if some of the others that the envision at the position are not there. How far do you think he can realistically fall before Dallas absolutely must move up to get him in the 2nd round?

Looks solid, I am just praying that a Dexter Mccluster is in their somewhere.

I've seen most mocks with Alualu going to Miami at #43 or NE at #44. It would be perfect to trade with Miami in my opinion, to ensure that NE doesn't have a shot at him. I'm not sure if Spears would be enough to move up 15 spots, we may have to throw in a future pick in 2011, like a 5th or 6th rounder.

if we get otogwe then i would be real happy with this draft.
