Spotrac: Pending/Potential available WRs

Cooper would be an easy transition ........still productive ( just not sure if Jerry will sign off )

Diggs is likely looking at a 1-year prove-it deal. No team is trusting him with much-guaranteed money. Besides, this could be the only chance he and his brother will have to play together coz this is likely Trevon's final season as a Cowboy.

Kupp......Rams will release him, it's just a matter of when. He reminds me of Coop and Diggs in that he knows how to get open. Pure route runner ........remember Daks always talks about his WRs being where they are supposed to be.

I wouldnt be super upset with any of these guys, they would all be upgrades over what we had in 2024, but I think you'll be surprised by the price tags.

I like Hill but too much money.I like Kupp as well but only if you can do it for a late round pick and he isnt crazy expensive. Perhaps LA can pick up some cost? honestly just give me someone from the draft. Perhaps Xavier Restrepo from the U.If dallas can trade down in the first and pick up a pick between their 44 and 76. If not then McMillan,Burden or Egbuka. I wish we didnt need so much.

Don't see Diggs returning (post June cut?)
He's returning ............ the surgery he had in January damn near guaranteed his return 2025 season. The Cowboys can't release him coz he is still injured. I suppose they work out an injury settlement but that's unlikely.

Contract Notes
  • $33.304M guaranteed at signing (signing bonus + 2023 salary + 2024 salary)
  • $9M of 2025 salary fully guarantees the 5th league day of 2025 (injury guaranteed at signing)
  • 2024-2028 Per Game Active Bonus: $58,823 ($1M)

Trade down from 12th draft spot, pick up an extra late 2nd and 3rd or 4th. Use one of those extra picks to draft Dont'e Thornton Jr...

Maybe but my theory is there's reason so many are available. I think is part of a league-wide trend moving away from 3-WR base offense to a conventional run base and noticed I didn't say run-first. Notice RBs contract values are up from 4-5 years ago. The Cards gave vet James Connor a new $8M contract late last season. The Eagles just extended Barkley with a contract that breaks the $20M threshold for RBs. Hell, the 49ers just traded Deebo and word is their other WR is also available but they are keeping McFaffrey.

It would not surprise me if only a few on this list were signed immediately at the start of free agency. I can see the owners freezing them until the 2nd/3rd wave of free agency. We will see.....

But the eagles paid monster money to their two wide receivers and their #3 is a 1st round pick. 49ers traded Deebo but just took yet another WR in the first round, while still having Jaquan Jennings who is super underrated. And whatever the Cardinals are doing, probably don’t follow that. Chiefs had Juju and Mecole and Rice and still signed Hollywood Brown and then drafted Xavier Worth in the first round and then still traded for Deandre Hopkins.

What I’m saying is even the RB teams are still going heavy at WR. 2-3 assets at the receiver position are the winning formula. Lamb + hoping a rookie steps ups + maybe more snaps for Turpin can’t be the plan

I guess in today's market, a good #2 receiver is going to be in that 15m range. I'd say draft a good receiver for that spot if possible

I think you're right from a general idea that teams are starting to revert back to a run game, but I think you might be going to an extreme on that take too. I'd be interested in looking into the data on 3wr sets in 2024 compared to previous seasons. I think teams are largely using similar personnel groups but that is strictly a guess on my end.

James Connor getting $8M is eh...Even Barkly breaking $20M isnt completely insane. Zeke signed for $15M six years ago. adjusting for cap inflation RB contracts are still under what they were in the late 2010s.

Many teams are trying to move WRs but these same teams are going to be in the market to replace the guys they are moving as well. LA wants to move Kupp but its mostly because Nacua is the top guy now and they dont want to pay nearly $30m in cap for a #2 guy. Similar situation in Jacksonville where Thomas has overtaken Kirk. Metcalf is the one requesting a trade from Seattle. Hill requested out of Miami. In addition to this we also see teams like Cincinnati who is trying to keep both Higgins and Chase. I think there is more of a demand for WRs than you realize....even if there is a heavier focus on running the football around the league, which I dont disagree with.
