Taco Charlton has only three tackles through the first four games for the Cowboys.

Cowboys remaining confident in first-round pick Taco Charlton

FRISCO

Taco Charlton hasn’t made much of an impact through his first four NFL games.

The Dallas Cowboys’ first-round pick out of Michigan has registered just three tackles, including one tackle for loss, and been credited with one quarterback pressure by the coaching staff in 101 snaps.

That’s not the sort of production the Cowboys were hoping for when they used the 28th overall pick on Charlton to bolster their pass rush. Charlton is the first to say it, too.

”I’m not satisfied, definitely not,” Charlton said. “Right now, the biggest thing is working in the role I’m given. I’m used to playing 60, 70 plays last year, so getting in a rhythm faster is probably the biggest thing, biggest factor for me.”

I'm not down on him but right now he is just a body taking up space on the field. Hopefully he starts to get it going. It would be nice for him to get a sack and maybe then the light will come on.

I'm one of the biggest critics of this Front Office on this board and I still think he was a solid pick at 28. TJ Watt might have been a consideration but he was far from a sure thing with his injury history and size.

We supposedly wanted Adoree Jackson badly, but he went 10 picks higher. We also were believed to want Takkarist McKinley, which may have been why Atlanta jumped ahead of us to get him. We have overpaid in the past to move up so I'm not going to be a hypocrite and complain that we didn't move up. Taco was the right pick and fans expecting the 28th overall pick to come in and dominate from day one aren't being realistic.

Next off-season, a true edge rusher at RDE will be needed. We may end up Franchise Tagging Demarcus Lawrence but even then, the team needs to address the position since that's only a 1-year lease.

Derek Barnett: 5 tackles 0 sacks
Charles Harris: 3 tackles 0 sacks
Takk McKinley: 4 tackles 1 sack
Taco Charlton: 3 tackles 0 sacks

Wonder how.many plays all of these guys have each played? Hell, wasn't Taco ineligible for one game?

But let's be real, the only comparison anyone wants to hear is:

TJ Watt: 13 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 int. (Don't mention that he's a LB in an attacking scheme)

But but but - you draft players! not players that fit your scheme. Duh.

Too early to get upset. Everyone wants the guy on fire but most take a year or more to get it going. Patience is the plan here.
Exactly, ape man!
Blimey!
I don't expect anything from this Michigan bloke until the second year.
After dat he is on his own.

Injuries were his back story, right? I recall Dane talking about him on the draft show.
Yes. TJ Watt has been injured already this year and missed a game due to it.
I think his injury history combined with him being a LB was the issue. He is playing as a LB in the 3-4 and not as a DE in the 4-3.

Watt too, but I was referencing Carl Lawson with the injury question. I do think Watt is a good fit in Pittsburgh.

Wait...are you saying he has only played 25 total plays this season?

No per game. It seems like he's out there on every snap. If that's the case he and Mawoya are sucking big time!
