That's one thing, but I'm not cutting a guy who's actually shown he can sack the quarterback for a guy who's shown nothing other than a back issue.

Well, again, if he shows more than the other DEs then he would obviously have a spot. I dont see who that would be though. Tapper is safe unless they deem his back issue too severe. Gregory has too much upside to give up on him,,, maybe if he gets his suspension tacked on to the point that he's scratched for the season.

I don't see any of them that can't be upgraded upon. Plenty of people said the same about Ryan Russell. Right up to the point where he apparently wasn't even good enough for the team's practice squad.

Good coverage absolutely helps with sacks.
You have it backwards, the pass rush helps your coverage. You can only cover for so long without someone getting open. If any quarterback in the NFL has time he will find a breakdown in the coverage. The touchdowns that happened in the game Sunday were against your top corner in Scandrick and another one was due to Justin Durant not being position. Ramsey wouldn't have helped in either of those situations.

Tell that to the Jets

Wilber is here because we don't value SAMs

No, he's here for special teams. Hitchens was the expected starter and he's more or less on par with most 4-3 teams 3rd LB. Is he any worse than Mike Morgan in Seattle, or Devon Kenard in New York or even Shaq Thompson in Carolina, who was a high pick, but was only really ok as a rookie? It's not that we value the position any less than the rest of the league, it's we had to play a back up player there.

At the tune of 4.25 million per year? They value the 1T, now maybe they missed on Thorton, but that's not what you spend when you don't value something.

Really? We don't value DEs or we just have mis evaluated them? We went for the home run with Hardy and whiffed, but he cost quite a bit (as well as the 4th round comp pick we didn't get for Murray), drafted Lawrence and Gregory in round 2, only to have them watch from home due to drug suspensions.

or FSs in Marinelli's Defense...... we can get by with JAGs and ex-Jags

Just spent a first round pick on one.

We value all of these positions, but have whiffed on several evaluations of talent and character.

Wilber is the starter at SAM
Thornton is a JAG so far.....after years of Hayden
BJones was a CB at the draft......after years of Wilcox and Heath
Good DEs are top of the first and top dollar FAs......2nd round picks and druggies and Mayowas aren't cutting it...the Hardy fiasco proves the point......low cost gamble that they gave up on because of PR

Yes he is, but if it wasn't planned, you can't logically say he's the starter because we don't value SAM LBs. Blame it on poor planning, but to use Wilber as evidence that we don't value SAM LBs makes no sense.

Thornton is a JAG so far.....after years of Hayden

Thorton may be a jag, but again, the issue will be poor player evaluation, not lack of value with the position.

BJones was a CB at the draft......after years of Wilcox and Heath

Not really, he played both from day 1 and given the lack of talent overall on D, why move him from CB to FS if they don't value FSs?

If you believe the top of the first round and top dollar free agents is the only place to get DEs, then there is really no point in going back and forth. Just looking at last year's sack leaders several players weren't top of the first round picks are acquired via free agency. Carlos Dunlap, Chandler Jones, Whitney Mercilus, Everson Griffen all were among the league leaders in sacks. If we could get a redo, Danielle Hunter at #60 instead of Gregory would be a steal, so it's not that we don't value DEs, which quite frankly makes no sense, we have whiffed repeatedly.

Yet getting torched in the air

They won their game and I believe they have one of the best corners in the game. If you really think secondary players are more important the than the trenches then keep believing that.
