Isiah Stanback has speed, athletecism, good hands, size and oh yeah speed. And tattoos as well. Converting from QB to WR last year didn't get him on the field much. Plus injuries.

I don't see the Cowboys as depending on him. They're obviously looking hard at getting a veteran WR. I don't see this as a knock on Stanback. There is no way to evaluate him on the field. Despite wowing them on the practice field that doesn't always translate to the playing field. But it is tantalizing to know he was making the likes of Henry and TNew look...well not bad...but used a little.

Is there any feedback that you feel is reliable on Stanback? How is this guy going to do? Is he a starting quality WR yet? Will he ever be? Is he going to be a number one, two, three, or another speedy, athletic WR who didn't make the grade?

While I'm hoping on a veteran WR being acquired, I'm hoping Stanback can compete for significant playing time this year. Of course, I'm hoping TG can make a comeback as well but that's another subject.

All I know of that we have to go on is Jeff Ireland's chub-rock after last year's draft. They were completely enamored with his athleticism.

WR is a tough position to transition from playing WR in college to the NFL. I can't imagine it's any easier going from being a QB to a WR in the NFL.

We picked a good round to take a chance on aguy like that. Thankfully it wasn't a Matt Jones situation. But I don't think anyone expects much - mostly hope that he can be a good slot guy - Crayton with more athleticism.

But that might not even happen this year.

I would like to see him returning punts and kickoffs and being able to contribute as a WR when we are using 3 and 4 WR sets.

Good news is, he has a guy he can go to (Crayton) with help in transitioning from QB to WR.

I will freely admit: I have drank the Stanback kool-aid from Ireland/Jones. I think he'll turn out to be a nice WR for us. He has plenty of athleticism, is smart, and is supposed to be a hard worker.

That's worth a 4th round gamble IMO when you have a pretty good roster.

Here's hoping for the best.

I am expecting Stanback to have a roster spot this year and his contributions to be very minimal.

He's still a future hope rather than a contributor to the present.

Of course I am open to him making an impact this year. Just can't bank on it.

Stanback is faster than 4.58. He ran track in the Pac-10.

Placed seventh in the 60m at MPSF in 2005, his first year of college track ... is less than a tenth shy of UW's all-time top-10 in the 60m dash ... also plays quarterback for UW's football team ... will not compete in April due to spring football commitments.

Collegiate Best Marks
60m Dash....... 6.89i
100m....... 10.93

Those are good marks for only running track one year and for his size.

I think it will another year before this guy can show up and he may never make the transition.

He is the worst player ever drafted by the cowboys :)

Seriously?

I think this is the tell-tell year for Stanback. We will be able to see what we have in him this year (barring another injury).

How long did it take Hines Ward to become productive for the Steelers? Does anyone know?...

We almost made it through Wednesday without another Stanback thread.

He was in his 4th year before he hit the 1,000 yard rec mark.
1st year 15 catches for 246, 2nd year 61 catches 638 and 3rd year 48 catches for 672.

1st season he had 246 yards and 0 TDs while playing 16 games.

2nd season he had 638 yards and 7 TDs

3rd season 672 yards and 4 TDs

4th season 1003 and 4 TDs

5th season 1329 and 12 TDs

The 4th season really propelled him but he was very productive by his 2nd season. Did not miss a game in his career until 2005. Played 7 full season before missing his first game. Incredible.

It's simply impossible to know until camp. Even if he's running routes and catching during the offseason, we won't know anything definitive until the pads go on and a couple of preseason games.

Wade Phillips at the end of last year said that Stanback was uncoverable in practice.

Gil Brandt said that VR brass is very high on Stanback.

That is the only word i have heard on him.

It was only one play, but that flag route he caught for 6 in the PS game was a sweet. He planted, cut and showed great hands on that throw. It was however only one play.

I have said this before but i think it merits repeating. Ray Sherman is one heck of a WR coach and I find it no coincidence that Hurd and Austin have progressed as they have. I think Stanback will only get as much PT as Austin did this past year but if he makes a few plays he could get more.

I wonder what uncoverable really means...

If Ball, Jones, or Reeves couldn't cover him, that doesn't mean much. They suck anyway.

If it was Henry, eh, Henry has had trouble with fast WRs before.... if Henry was hobbled and trying to guard him, well, we know how Henry plays when he is dinged up.

If it was Newman, then, yeah, I am pretty damn excited.

Although, I have been on the Stanback wagon for awhile, so I am biased to begin with....

Get your facts straight. Stanback is much faster than this fictional 4.58 time you keep posting.

Then get excited. Because I heard no one could cover him and specifically he made TNew look bad a few times.
