Stanback has stated that the 40 yard dash times listed in the draft write-ups are not accurate. He has reported that his real time is in the 4.3-4.4 range. This is consistent with his high school 40 yard dash time as reported in the below link:

This should clear up all the confusion. We have a real speed demon at wide-out. I can't wait to see this guy in action.

Less accurate than a made up college time?

Seriously, though, none of these times are accurate. Don't trust anything unless it's administered by pro scouts either at the Combine or at the player's pro day.

his 40 time doesn't matter unless he's just gonna run go route's
This wasn't a very well thought out post.

why do you say that?
The one position where 40 times are the most important is wide receiver.

Yes, 20 and 10 times are more telling, but 40 times correlate very nicely.

ok so if he is running 10 yard outs and 15 yard ins, the 40 time means nothing. you guys get too caught up in the 40 time in which a guy runs in shorts and a shirt(not in full pads and a helmet)

You either didn't read the second sentence or didn't understand it.

And you're attempting to inject a reasonable, yet widely used, argument (i.e., that 40 times are overvalued) into the worst possible scenario (i.e., wide receivers).

Except it's not true.

cause his 40 time(which he ran with no pads on) tells you what? when 90% of the time he won't even be running 40 yards in a straight line and/or untouched

I think the point is, whether or not he will ever be running in those conditions doesn't matter, its still and indicator of his speed.

Unless you expect Stanback's impact on this team to be confined to numbers, than this is all a moot point

I once heard that Stanback's coaches had to use a sundial to time him on the 40.

But I'm pretty sure it was a complete moron that said that.

I have to give you major props on saying Bowe was the best receiver out of this last years class. He certainly is living up to that.

All i ask is that you do your combine metrics again this year or at least tell us what the equation is.
