There seems to me to be an obvious intent not to give too much away. And I found that both frustrating and refreshing. Frustrating as a member of an instant gratification society where we have so much given to us that we've grown to expect it. But refreshing in the sense that I can still go into the film with a fresh and open mind and be exposed to the new and unexpected.

In an age where many films give it all away because they feel they have to (looking at you Dawn of Justice!), it's nice to see people realize that the film and the franchise can speak for themselves.

I thought this "teaser" showed more than I expected. The movie is 8 months away. The next trailers that come out in a few months will show more. They showed a little less in the "teaser" for Force Awakens and then showed quite a bit more in following trailers. Dawn of Justice did the same thing with their "teaser" and built up to showing more in following trailers.

I thought Dawn of Justice gave way too much away. By the time the film arrived, you knew everything that would happen. I thought giving away Doomsday was a huge mistake.

Also, I'm curious as to what the trailer showed you that was more than you expected?

They didn't show Doomsday in the teaser. He didn't appear until later trailers. You are comparing apples and oranges. The teaser for BvS showed very little of the movie.

The Force Awakens teaser lasted a 1 minute. The Last Jedi teaser clocked in about 1:40. I was expecting another very short 1 minute teaser and was surprised they showed more. The final trailers for the Force Awakens showed quite a bit of the movie. I expect the same for Last Jedi. It is typical of most movies.

That's not unusual. The closer a big budget movie gets, the more advertising you're trying to do to convince those that haven't already made up their mind to see it.

To do that, there are few options beyond showing more about the movie.

If you just watched only the first trailer for Dawn, the only two characters they showed were literally Batman and Superman.

Yeah, I guess it isn't the fairest comparison. I was just referencing a movie that gave away too much in a trailer vs one that gives away very little.

While the time may have been longer, I didn't think the actual content was. Half of this teaser is showing the oceans and islands where the last film left off. Not saying or showing much of anything.

Yeah, Josephus corrected me as to the comparison of teaser to a later trailer. And he's right. But I still feel that Dawn of Justice gave too much away and I hope the Last Jedi doesn't do the same. I'm not expecting that they will.

I agree that eventually, the Dawn trailers gave too much, my point is that it's up to you to stop watching trailers once you've decided to see a film. The studio has a different agenda.

And I think some are far more desperate than others. As Warner Bros has shown.

I'm wondering if the Empire will ever give up on building the mega weapons and go with something smaller.

I'm wondering why they changed the "company name" to The First Order?

And when did the Rebellion switch to "The Resistance"? And why? And didn't they win? What aren't they just part of the Republic now? I can't help but wonder if they'll bother to answer these questions.

The Empire is technically gone because they don't have an Emperor. In the new Battlefront 2 trailer they show the last of the empire trying to get revenge for Palpatine. So I bet Snoke took over and titled his cause "The First Order of business is to find and destroy Luke". And since Luke was the hero of the Rebellion and then left them Leia took control and called them " The Resistance". Just my guess. You are probably right in they won't explain it directly. Disney probably said let's just rename them to tie into the new films while still keeping a nostalgic feel to the series.

I finally just saw Rogue One.....it was a bit slow in parts, but all in all, it was a great prequel......better than the 3 Lucas made. The first one was ok, but what a waste of darth maul. The second was like twilight before there was twilight. The 3rd was decent.

I felt the same way about the prequels for a long time.

Poor lines, acting. Too many green screens and chi effects.

With that said. It was a trilogy of a child's rise and fall and rise.
It was gonna be dark and dreary and... simply not a feel good.

I think a lot was lost in the editing room.
It could be re-edited to be better.... not great.... but they could have smooth it out better.

They did explain most of that. The Republic is in the appeasement mode, so people started the Resistance to fight the First Order. Basically, it all comes down to politics.

The plotting of the prequels was one of its biggest issues in my opinion. Lucas' poor decision to go with "kid Anakin" for the first film forced ecpverything else to be rushed and therefore unbelievable.

The two hour "romance" and the half hour "turn your back on everything you've believed in your whole life" wouldn't have happened if not fir that dumb move.

The best thing that ever happened to the franchise was Lucas selling it to Disney. He's lost it as a filmmaker.

Where exactly did they "explain it"? Because I don't remember the movie saying anything about it.

What bothered me was the love story chick flick feel of the last 2, jar jar binks, and how awesomely futuristic everything looked even though it was in the past, compared to the original 3. Finally, if anakin built c3po, why no recognition of him during any of the 3 original movies......to me that little bit of knowledge left a serious gap in the storyline.
