There seems to be a lot working against our team heading into this weekend's game.

1) Our NFL leading rusher has a broken hand that might cause him to miss a game we need to win against a 10-4 opponent. And on top of that, it's possible that two members of the offensive line that makes this team go will either be sidelined by their ankle injuries or not at full strength.

2) Two of the teams outside of the division we need to lose (Seattle, Detroit) are facing backup QBs with Chicago having benched Cutler and Arizona down to its third-stringer.

3) The foe we're fighting for the division not only faces an easier opponent than us, but the Eagles get to do it against a QB who seems to have lost the organization but is starting by default after Colt McCoy was injured last week.

Those are a lot of odds to overcome, but hopefully Dallas will be able to take care of business this week ... and there's always the possibility in the NFL of a team like Washington pulling off the improbable.

You are talking about if we go 1-1. True, we have no buffer to back up on, however the boys are in control of their playoff destiny. That is what we as fans want. Any losses from the other teams would be icing on the cake.

Pointing out issues does not make one feeble-minded. The NFL is a tough league and Dallas' path has been made more difficult by these things.

Some act like losing the possible rookie of the year, the league's leading rusher and even Free are just minor bumps that are easily overcome (as if good players are easily replaced by their backups). Instead, they are serious issues that make our path harder.

The feeble-minded fan is the one who doesn't understand the difficulty Dallas faces in just kicking come Colt butt and having a clear path to the playoffs or even receiving help if the Cowboys can't just kick some Colt butt if three important pieces of their offense miss the game.

Nowhere have I said that Dallas can't win. Nowhere have I said we should just give up on the team or it doesn't control its own destiny. I'm very excited about the chance Dallas has in front of it. (I'd be even more excited if we'd taken care of business against Washington, but them's the breaks). But it's foolish not to acknowledge the challenges that the team faces as it fights for a playoff spot. This has been a very good year, with Dallas finally appearing to be back on the right path, that's reason to celebrate. Let's hope there's much more to celebrate than that in these final two weeks of the regular season.

Look at it this way:

If Dallas can't take advantage of the situation and win the next two games when everything is in front of them for the taking AND they have the momentum after a HUGE win in Philly-- then, they simply aren't going to do much in the playoffs anyway.

It's put up or shut up time. No excuses. Other teams have injuries. We need to win 6 games in a row in order to hoist the Lombardi. They've done it already this season.

We already think they won't do much in the playoffs. The defense just isn't good enough.

To be honest, I expect a loss this Sunday, and I expect Andrew Luck to put up around 400 yards passing and 3-4 TD's. There is just such a defensive liability with this team, that if we don't generate a turnover or two, there is little chance we can win. Also we hardly get pressure on the QB or get any sacks (partially by personnel, partially by scheme) to disrupt other QB's.

Our defensive scheme is predicated on the other QB or other team making a mistake, and us capitalizing. When you face the elite, the mistakes don't happen, the turnovers don't happen, and you're left with a talent-void defense, with a scheme that allows the other team to eat up yardage and stats. We just pray that we can get a stop inside the red zone and force a FG

I like this thread

calm down. you also liked the creamed corn at my dinner party last week. when you said the Boonses Farm wine was the best you ever tasted it made me think either you were mocking me or half bad taste in wine.

Make your own destiny should be the team's philosophy. No way can anything else be relied on. They win out, they deserve to be there. Simple as that. They lose well..maybe they shouldn't have lost to the raggedy a55 Commanders at home...
Preach.

If we can hold Indy to 24 points, no doubt we win. I'm thinking more along the lines of 38-35 Indy.

I just don't trust this defense against an elite QB. We're going to get shredded, and offense will be under immense pressure all day to keep up.

Let's hope there's much more to celebrate than that in these final two weeks of the regular season.

While moving from Martin to Bernadeau is an obvious downgrade, Bernie is one of the better backups in the league. He is not going to be busting assignments and he has a good anchor. He is very good on combination blocks in the run game. He's not Martin in space but no one really is.

Free was not exactly dominating the edge on runs for three quarters before he went out. Parnell has not been a trainwreck for all of his awkwardness particularly keeping the rush off Romo. Both Bern and Parnell have been in this offense for years and understand the system.

Fred is playing and between him, Leary, and Bernadeau they can handle Chapman. Their DE and OLB are not overly impressive particularly against the run. If they eat a counter, you can blow them off the ball.

Murray is going to play. He is already very good at making business decisions and not taking big hits. The worst that happens is he fumbles but it was like that before anyway. I am excited to see Randle and this forces their hand. He looks like a very athletic runner. Romo, Dez, Witten, and Beasley are all healthy and playing at a high level. Vontae Davis will be playing hurt if he plays at all.

OTOH, the Colts have serious OL issues of their own. Cherilus is out and they will be starting a 2013 UDFA in his place. Their starting RG Thornton and his backup are both hurt and they have a 2009 7th rounder who has never played starting. Their center isn't very good either. Hilton has a leg injury and their receiving corps doesn't have as much depth. Our defense is playing better. We generated a pass rush against a better Eagles front last week and have been doing a better job defending Fleener types in the middle of the field. The CB and S have been good in man coverage.

Now I get that Luck will be able to find holes in our zone particularly with how our LB and Carr play it but it is not all bad for us and they have bad things that happen to them too.

I don't disagree with this, or really with anything that you wrote in that post.

I haven't said anywhere in this thread that I think Dallas is doomed because of its issues, just that there are things that make the path more difficult.

I'm glad to have experienced backups on the line. I'm glad that Randle has been running as well as he has the year after not even knowing if he was going to be worthy of making the roster this year.

We seem better prepared to handle this adversity than we were even a year ago. Hopefully, Dallas comes through ... but I do think there are some who make the Colts out to be pushovers when they are not. Doesn't mean we can't beat them, just that making the playoffs won't be easy, but it rarely is.

The Colts have 14 fumbles in the last 4 games. I'm not sure the mistakes won't happen.
