Tony was a very good player for a free agent and Dak gave us great value for a fourth round pick for quite a while.

Neither one of them in any way shape or form is Troy aikman and we shouldn't expect them to be.

Troy was a first-round pick and that's what we should use if we expect that type of performance but Jerry likes to play the game of finding the jewel in the trash pile.

So we don't use first round pics on quarterbacks
We get guys that are great stat compilers contract negotiators but come up very small in the big moments of playoff games and that's just the way it is

Era they probably have more success. To put things in perspective this era of the Cowboys had Mazi Smith and Trysten Hill as defensive tackles. Troy had Russell Maryland and Leon Lett….its levels.

And as much as the non salary cap era helped
Players being picked by Jimmy Johnson and Coach by him produced a much better result than players picked by Jerry or one of his family and coached by Jason Garrett.

Our previous Hall of Fame quarterbacks would have played into their 40s in today's game and truly dominated


Roger Staubach played to 37 years old in the '70s when there was no protection for the quarterback like there is today.

Everything in today's game is designed for the quarterback to survive and do well.

In today's game a much more mediocre player can compile stats and appear far better than they really are until of course the competition get stiff in the playoffs and everyone is really good.

Guys like Roger and Troy elevated their game when the competition was the stiffest that in turn made everyone believe and elevate their game that's why those men were able to make it through the gauntlet of playoff games and get to the Super bowl

When the lights are brightest in the playoffs guys like Romo and DAk play to what they are undrafted free agent and a fourth round pick .
Both lacking the coaching to get them any further.

He did.

But so did Romo. He had by far and away the best Oline in ‘14.

Prescott has played behind excellent lines.

No question it is critical to the success of the overall offense.

Yep. 14 was a year they should have brought home some hardware, or at least gone to the ccg. Terrible fumble by Murray and the Dez catch debacle sealed their fate.

They see a bunch of overinflated stats from mediocre qbs in a pass-happy league and fall in love with numbers instead of looking at things with context. A lot of the greats of the 80s and early 90s would have had astronomical stats playing in today's game.

Look at what Marino did in 84. Easily stands apart as the greatest single season of any QB in history. Anyone here think Drew Brees could have done that in 1984 even though he broke his record in 2011?

Great offensive lines give up sacks…the Cowboys gave up 18 sacks in 1995….there great. That means he at least got hit 18 times never mind the hits that took place after he threw it.

I think the thing with comparing eras is you have to factor in everything. It’s only for older QBs. For instance no one ever says Lamar would’ve killed it in the 80s facing inferior athletes. Corners and safeties today don’t get the credit for not being able to play physical or head hunt guys to stop completions.

These defenses today and offenses are far more complicated than what was out there in the 70s and 80s.

Drew Brees would flourish in any era just like I think Dan Marino and Steve Young would.

Aikman was known for standing strong in the pocket and taking the hit as he threw the ball. He got smacked around good, as did all QBs back then.
