Starting corners in 26

Signing Bland at top 5 money is almost as bad as Larry Brown getting that fat contract from Al Davis way back when.

Brown had one MVP game in the SB and Bland had one excellent season that may be an anomaly.....let somebody else pay the fools gold if he demands top 5 money
Bland has been good his whole career though.

Trevon Diggs will likely go to his grave with a significant number of folks believing he intentionally avoided contact during that George Kittle play. Other folks did not see it that way (link).

What sucks is they got Diggs at a really nice price. If not for the injuries he would be a bargain for the production he gives you. Yes he missed the tackle on Kittle but have we forgotten all the interceptions? The kid can play.
Diggs had 1 good year and got paid ( good for him) I believe I’d rather keep bland if we can only keep 1 but I’d rather upgrade both

I remember the Kittle whiff and dropped int probably more than the picks but he’s also injury prone

I’m pretty sure I saw you tube of his drops as well. He gives and takes away ( feast or famine)

It’s not like Deion was some mauler. While I would love a wrap up Tnew style Corner… I can live with it if you’re giving the offense the ball 6-10 times per season.
True but Diggs is not the cover guy Deion was and he doesn’t bust a few offensive and special teams plays a year. My biggest issue is that he was pretty physical as a rookie. I hate that he gave that up.

I don't recall Deion avoiding contact nearly to the extent Diggs does & certainly not when his team needed him. Diggs doesn't care if it's 4th down to stop the drive & win the game. He will bail on run support.

I will wait and see how Diggs does this year. But not expecting him to be in top form.
Probably his last year.

Bland, yes keep him. But do not overpay. If players like Elam and and Carson get more and more playing time. Then Diggs will be out for sure.

I think they'll re-up Bland this offseason if he takes a team friendly deal like Diggs contract. Good AAV, but after a few years all the guarantees are gone and he could be cut if he declines.
Basically a 5 year deal that becomes a 2+1+1+1, team options basically.

We better keep Bland, and I think we will. He's very good, but he won't command a top-of-market deal like CeeDee and Micah. Probably more along the lines of what Osa got (relative to position).

2 questions about bland

1. What top wr has he shutdown
2. What good qbs has he picked off

The answer to those questions will tell you if he deserves top cb money

The time to re-sign Bland was after his injury last year. Missed the boat again!

I thought we all agreed not to talk about the Kittle play!!!!

Still wakes me up a night thinking about it.

I'll go with Bland and somebody.
The Diggs thing falls through after this year.
Maybe this year's draft pick if a 1st rounder. Will Johnson would be good.

Stephen already has talked about re-signing Bland.
Good, I’d much rather keep Bland over Diggs. Bland tackles and he’s been healthier. In an ideal world I’d love to keep both and have both be healthy. But it’s not an ideal world and if you twist my arm I’m going with Bland.

Diggs will be cut. Doubt anyone would trade for him.
Agree. According to Sportrac there’s significant cap savings for this year with a trade, but they aren’t signing anyone with it anyway, and no one is giving up anything of significance before the deadline, and he may not even hit the field before then.

Between the injury and structure, the 2025 salary is already fully guaranteed. He will be here.

Not really sure why it’s such a debate as to what’s going to happen with him. His fate seems clear to me….he will return mid-season, play ok but not great, be an obvious tick behind his usual self…then be cut after the season with the savings invested in Bland.

Compared to some others, the deal isn’t terrible for the team, and they can bail with little pain.

For me, right now, CB is similar to WR….could certainly use an upgrade but there are other spots of way more concern. But they are Jerry’s two favorite positions, so it’s a safe bet that the next two first rounders are used on those positions.

What they ought to do is continue to plug away at the middle of the defense until they get it right, but Jerry knows best and it’s tough to argue with success.

The problem is Jerry's definition of success.

Good rookie year
Excellent sophomore year.
Clear regression after the injury last season. Barely a 70 pff.

The point is that the FO needs to see more than this sample size before backing up the Brinks truck.

If he can stay healthy, this upcoming season will confirm the 2023 performance or the 2024 performance....I hope it's the former
