Listen man, nobody survives 4 straight years of NO PLAYOFFS. Not Romeo Crennel in Cleveland, not Dick Jauron in Buffalo. Can anybody name me the last head coach who did? Especially when you have a franchise QB.

I'm with you that he's been given more time than he likely should have, but as long as Jerry is in charge, I'm skeptical that he'll bring in anyone better. Not saying there aren't better options available, just don't see any of them coming here.

Tom Ryle at his finest. Another great public relationship piece from valley ranch's voluntary PR department that is BTB.

There is an interesting meme (to steal one of Tom's favorite words) developing in the offseason, as represented by this line:

"It is conceivable that Dallas could have a better team this season, and wind up with a worse record."

Under the Garrett / Jones regime records no longer matter. Parcells famously said you are what your record indicates. That brutal, harsh reality that the NFL is a bottom line business apparently no longer applies to the Dallas Cowboys.

Its as if Parcells was never here.

But who really cares about records, or making the playoffs, or even super bowls anymore. Let's just content ourselves with watching a master builder build this franchise:

"Jason Garrett, after all, is not building a team with a one-year vision. His nature is to build something that is sustainable. After all, what else is he referring to with his constant use of "process"? He still doesn't have a perfect situation, but he has the best one to date in his head coaching career."

And he isn't going anywhere for a while either unless we just really tank.

Then, unfortunately, neither are our Cowboys.

Boy, a lot of posters on this site remind me of the crowds in Hans Christian Anderson's fable of "The Emperor's New Clothes". Just like those crowds a lot of fans see this magnificent team Jason is building when his construction is just as real as the two weaver's garments. And in these fan's minds you are thought as "unfit for your job or unforgivably stupid" (as the author says) if you don't see this. (SMH)

For years, there has been much speculation about the status of Jason Garrett, head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. If you just listen to the prevalent memes, you feel sorry for the guy, because his pants and certain parts of his anatomy must be burned to a crisp, since his entire tenure has consisted of sitting on a very, very hot seat.

Which could lead to Garrett getting another season or so to continue the turnaround.

Seven years here for constantly deteriorating production is not a 'very-very hot seat'. It's actually proof that the seat is quite comfortable.

Closest comparison would be Kubiac in Houston.

I think he missed the playoffs 3 consecutive seasons, then made the playoffs in year 4, then missed the playoffs in year 5...............then was fired.

I cannot think of any head coach that has missed the playoffs 4 consecutive seasons and kept their job (in modern times), can anybody?

Continue the turn around???? LMAO!!! They were an 11-5 team with a playoff win the year before he took over. More like a 3 year swirl around the bowl before it finally goes down the drain.

You can't be serious. He took over as HC a 1-7 team that Wade admitted he didn't know what the problem was. No revisionist history. He has enough baggage without adding other people's.

Playoffs or he's gone. I don't want to hear about anything else.

Might be some unhappy campers for more reason than one if we don't make the playoffs this season.

As a Garrett fan, I have to admit I would find a big extension amusing.

LOL, lets defend our 3 straight season 8-8 coach while Chip Kelly comes in and steals his lunch and eats it in front of him. Okay, if Garrets building, whats Chip doing, because Chip came in and got the playoffs, and the last time we were there we got rid of the coach that took us there. Omg, yes, lets defend mediocrity to its fullest. "NEXT YEARS CHAMPS" guys, come on say it with me.

I like Chip as a football coach ,no doubt
Red is and will be the coach of the Cowboys beyond the 2014 season

Looks to me like it is working our pretty good. On paper it's clear the roster is improving IMO. And I'm not a big Garrett supporter.

The roster is younger, which is no big accomplishment and they have less talent on the team. I don't see where that is doing a good job. Anybody can cut old guys and replace them with a bunch of young late round draft picks .

I like Chip a lot, too. Always have. There's also an outside chance Harbaugh's available if he doesn't get an extension in SF, right? That could make things interesting in Dallas if it happened.

Yeah, but can they do it and still stay 500? :)
