Some of these places aren't in the same league as the others and certainly don't qualify as "fine dining."

I asked a friend who lives in Austin and loves steak.

He recommended Flemings, Texas Land & Cattle, Ruth's Chris, or Fogo de Chao. He said the last one is unique. He did not explain why. He bet you'd choose Flemings based on your criteria.

Congrats to your lady. Enjoy the meal.

What is a Brazilian steakhouse? I am intrigued.

He said Flemings has amazing wines too. That means nothing to me, but it might to her pops.

See if you can get them to New Braunfels and hit up Myron's. Dad raves about it and he's pretty particular about steak houses.

TL&C hasn't ever really impressed me to be perfectly candid. It reminds me of one rung above Outback.

3 Forks is great. I've heard good things through the grapevine about Finn and Porter's but I cannot give a personal accounting of how good it really is.

That's a new Brazilian steak house we have here in town that comes from Chicago. My customers have raved about it. Haven't had the time to make it over to pay them a professional courtesy visit just yet.

Basically, it's all you can eat of various types of meat that they bring by and cut off pieces of for you. All of it cooked perfectly and absolutely wonderful tasting. There is also a buffet of various sides that you can stock up on to eat with it. The sides are excellent as well.

It's a bit pricey, but MAN, it's worth it.

I don't remember the name of the place but they did a segment on Diner, Drive Ins and Drive about a place in Austin that looked pretty good. It was a family restaurant and what I remembered the most about it was the pit was in the middle of the restaurant, Someone else can problem tell you the name of it. The brisket looked awesome.

Saltgrass and Texas Land & Cattle are not like the others. They're the "Chilis" of steak places. Not at all fine dining.

Just take him to 3 Forks if you haven't been.

Shockingly overpriced wines. There's a favorite of mine on the menu there that sells for $120, which I can get for $35 down the street at the wine merchant. But of course, the last time I went, the wife wanted it because it's one of "our wines." I like good wine, but very few wines are worth that to me.

Hofbrau is a great place to eat. Unfortunately, it does not meet your standard of fine dining, but you should try it sometime.

Texas Land & Cattle is one of my favorites. You can't go wrong there. There are plenty of locations around town.

Trulucks is also a fine place. I really enjoy it.

Austin Land & Cattle also has good food.

Sullivans is nice.

It sounds to me like my friend Joe hit the home run on this one.

He's looking for a snobbish place that he hasn't tried before. Snobbish means elegant and pricey as well as good food and wine I assume.

No doubt. Fleming's is generally fantastic. Since it's a nation-wide chain, he may have tried it, though.

One tip -- Fleming's (at least the one in Houston) occasionally serves a porterhouse off-menu, which you have to ask about. Trust me, it is heaven.

I had no idea it was a chain. Lo and behold, one in Tucson.

I like porterhouse steaks so I may have to give that a try.

In Tucson, I gotta go with McMahon's Steakhouse for this criteria. Good food and Bob McMahon is a friend of mine and a Cowboys fan.

I've never tried them either.

I'm not much into chain restaurants.
