I respect you, Zordon.
I think you of all people know what I'm talking about.
Merchandise sales means nothing to real fandom.
I know way too many East-LA'er's who wear Cowboys gear and never even think about watching a game.
I've met hundreds of people from the mid-west that wear Cowboys Jerseys and haven't followed them since 93.

How many people wear NC gear simply because Michael Jordan went there and for no other reason?
A lot.
Argue with me if you will, it's the troof.

Zzzzziiiiinnnnngggg!!!

I live about 70 miles from Buffalo...

And I'll tell ya, the fans of those teams been through far more pain and suffering (and I do realize how stupid that sounds... "pain and suffering" from a losing football team... really?) than Cowboy fans could ever know, yet they'll fill up that stadium and make noise that Cowboy fans should be envious of. The Bills will lose, the fans will be down for a day and then start the cycle of rooting for their team all over again.

I think it would be easier for some Cowboy fans to support the team if the 5 SB wins never happened.

That's because there's nothing else to do there.

But it is.

Look at your posting history.

Read those posts one after another.

If that's not Masochism... then...

You and several others get no enjoyment out of this franchise.

Honestly that's kinda sad.

Then it's you know what! :)

Very valid point.

I'll tell you that one of my best memories of this franchise is the 7 and 9 season of 1990.

After seeing the franchise spiral under the final years of Tom Landry and then surviving the 1 and 15 season of Jerry and Jimmy, the 1990 season was rewarding beyond words.

To only enjoy a team when it wins Superbowls is to cheat yourself of some pretty good memories along the way.

Huh? You have to convince yourself the team is headed in the right direction every single season or you're not enjoying the team?

I enjoy the journey. It's just that we've been saying "That John Denver is full of ____" for too long now.

I think this team would be one of the Super Bowl favorites with better line play. I think as is, as flawed as they are, they can compete for a playoff spot.

If that's not Masochism... then...

I dont long for the losing
Dont cherish it and dont wear it like some faux badge of honor and fandom like many here do and like you are advocating

I hate it and recognize its root causes and point them out (hence my posting history)
I don't close my eyes or bury my head in sand, I like to face the truth and take things head on

BTW, you would think 17 years of memories of that miserable journey would be enough
And many of us have been here every single one of those memory building years you so cherish

No. We just can admit what's wrong with it. Why we don't win anymore. There's a reason. It's not bad luck or happenstance.

At least you're softening your stance a little. :)

But do you really think going off on everything the Cowboys do is going to help propel the team forward? And does it do you a lot of good personally?

Give me dick lebeau as DC and 2 SBs in last 6 years and I will be happy to believe you know what you are doing

You go 8-8 last 2 years with years of mediocrity and I will question your poor decision-making

Deal?

Monte Kiffin and Rod Marinelli had nothing to do with our 8-8 record the last 2 years. Nice try, though.

Is someone going to cleverly counter with a "1 playoff win in 17 years" gem now?

But why make yourself miserable over it?

No one can post disappointment and anger in post after post and not carry it around with them on a daily basis.

I cannot disagree with that. Heartbreak is galvanizing.
Look at Laker fans- they don't fill seats until the mid-second quarter. Why?
Spoiled, bandwagon, free-spending fans that only know winning. They don't even really care unless they they are losing, then they are gone.
They don't pay attention to direction. They don't pay attention to foundation building.
They know winning.
Fans now seem to say "you win or you suck".
Didn't "You" as an individual have to go through a journey to get where you are?
You enjoy that journey?
Or did you determine your life by where you are "right now"? Not a CEO? Failure. Working you're way up a company, yet not the boss? Failure.
You hear that violin, Visionary?

I believe in the path, flaws and all. And if it's flawed, I look for corrections. If there aren't obvious corrections, I look for ancillary corrections that help from another angle.
If it's all a failure... Well crap. I guess you have my permission to be a miserable schmoe. A lot of you already are already.
Too bad for you- time keeps moving forward. The Earth keeps rotating.
Is the tune of my violin still the same, Visionary?
And the Cowboys will still be America's Team- despite your whines and quibbles and miseries.

I don't hold my head in the sand. I know the team's deficiencies, but I'm not going to make my every thought a complaint.
I'm not going to bang not only my head, but yours also against the proverbial wall.
I'm going to watch this journey and hope. Hope for the best.

Who thought the Spurs were going to make the NBA Finals and come withing mere seconds from winning another title just a few short months ago?
Very few and you know what? People whined the entire season about them. Their own fans. No enjoyment. The same fans that whine right now. Win it all or bust. Sad.
I feel sorry for them. They didn't enjoy one of the most amazing journeys in the Spurs history and I see that here, now.

The "Boys just might make an incredible journey this season, but posters like Visionary will be too busy listening to their own whining going non-stop in their heads. And my violin apparently.

You can call yourself real. Do it. You're real. So am I. Just in a different way. I like the sound of violins.

OK, I'm done. Attack.

He never said that. You and the Strawman are on a roll.

I'm glad to see that. By all appearances I thought you were miserable.

Reading the post and having the ability to grasp what is being said is important

Well help me understand. You give the Steelers a pass for their personnel because Dick Lebeau has 2 rings but you don't give Kiffin a pass despite him having a championship and his defense also going 8-8 just like Lebeau's did? Am I understanding correctly?

My posts will have just as much effect on the outcomes of games as yours will

If you have bothered to actually read my posting history you will be aware that I have posted positive and negative stuff

When the team has been as poorly built and underachieved for as long as we have, it is not unreasonable that there are many issues with that team

Like I said, just like masochism, ignoring reality is not my thing either

Peace (as one poster used to say):)

I really don't care what they have on their roster. The Steelers being equally goofy at the safety position doesn't change how I feel about Dallas being goofy.
