Steven mostly talked about confidence in Dak, but he also said Tony is 100% working toward getting back on the field. He talked about Zeke's physical play in Seattle and said he thinks the pass rush is going to be much better than people expect. The much more interesting segment came afterward with Dr. David Chao who explained that the difference between Tony's transverse process injury and the compression fracture he just suffered is that the former was painful because he broke exterior bones connected to muscle and that the latter takes more healing because a compression fracture is structural damage at the core of the spine. Kirwan asked about what we've all been assuming: Romo is 36 with a wife and two kids and a whole lot of life ahead of him. He needs to be thinking about retirement, right? The doctor said no more than any other football player. He said Tony is 36, which may be old in football years but not in human years, so Tony is not fragile and doesn't have brittle bones. He said He'll be able to go back to practice in a red jersey in a few weeks. He just can't take hits until six weeks or so, which is the general minimum amount of time it takes human bones to heal. He mentioned though that David Carr had the same injury some years ago and he was back on the field a lot sooner than six weeks.

Thanks for posting. I heard the first couple of minutes of the interview with Steven but then had to leave my car. Again, thanks.

Thanks for posting. I actually think Romo probably won't feel that much pain but the time will be in.getting his throwing strength up. David Carr actually fractured TWO vertrebrae

Romo is almost certain to be in a hurry to return to the game day lineup and Jerry is more than likely to encourage it. Nevertheless, the doctors should rightfully be entitled to a strong influence upon when Tony's return is permissible. I'm betting it'll more than likely be ASAP, like it or not.

Its also a bit misleading to harp on Romo being 33 years old. He didn't start games in the NFL at age 22 and take a pounding like Aikman or David Carr. His first year starting was when he was 26, he doesn't have 180 games in the NFL like some 33 year olds.

Waiting for all the fans who want Romo to retire to arrive on this thread and declare the doctor wrong and call Romo old brittle bones.
And then pretend to care about his ability to play with his wife and kids.

Exactly, the kind of players who are thumbsuckers thinking about their long term future don't make it in major college ball, much less the NFL. Its just too violent of a game, anyone who is wired that way doesn't last more than a season or two to begin with.

You mean all those bleeding hearts who only care about Romo's well being or those folks who've always disliked the guy and will hold a small party whenever he retires?

Tony's 36 but you're so right.

Thanks for the recap as well. I listened on channel 88 as well, but I am not completely sold on Romo and doctor reports. I often fell like it's just spin doctoring, but let's hope for the best.

David Chao is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine. He's the former team doctor for the Chargers. He does a weekly segment with Miller and Kirwan, I think.
