Stephen Jones 'can't imagine' seeing Micah Parsons play elsewhere as Cowboys enter crucial 2025 offseason

The Cowboys stand at 5-8 heading into today's game against the Panthers, and in the words of executive Stephen Jones, they're just "trying to win a game." It has been that kind of season for Dallas, one destined to end in disappointment no matter how the final four games of the regular season go.

Which is why the team's brass will spend the offseason examining how they got there and what led them down this frustrating path. Of note: Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, vice president of player personnel Will McClay and other members of the team's brass will explore the effects that signing big-money, high-profile, top-of-position players has on their rest of their roster.

"To me, it would be irresponsible if every year you don't look at the full body of work and the big picture and how those guys fit into that big picture," Stephen Jones told NFL.com at the conclusion of NFL's December League Meeting in Las Colinas, Texas, on Wednesday, "and how we want to think about our team in terms of the big picture going forward."

Parsons is buddies with the Eagles guys, always having them on his podcast. He also supports the Eagles when the Cowboys are out and is an Eagles fan.

Stephen might not be able to imagine it, but Parsons definitely can.

Also, if he cares about winning at all, he knows the Eagles will try.

And is there something about this story ,that one it's not new news that they're probably keeping Parsons, and two after Overshown's injury almost made it an absolute necessary thing to get him signed within reason..

we don't know what he's asking for but we're probably not going to have overseen the whole entire 2025 so we have to have those guys on this team we can't afford to let him go.... Because now going into this draft we can't be looking to replace 2 unique pressure guys one that's kind of a hybrid defensive end ones a hybrid linebacker slash whatever you wanna call them finding one of them would've been a priority but we can't be looking for two so now here we are.. That injury last week hit harder than people think it's not just losing a good guy and the fact that he might not even get back the next year but now it puts this position where we have to draft his replacement we needed one anyway but we can't let Parsons go 'cause what are we gonna replace him with another free agent another guy that's gonna cost almost as much you guys went to school together I mean are we gonna do pass rusher by committee Nope I'm thinking this is a opportunity for the fans to just stop saying we need to trade the guy and just get him signed as long as he's not demanding something ridiculous....

it's not our money so let them spend and let's keep the best players on our team....

Highest paid defensive player in the NFL in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . .
and? What's your point I mean does it hurt your bank account I'm trying to figure out why people are worried about what they're spending because where do you think we're gonna get another player like him in the draft oh wait a minute we have to replace overshoot as well so where do you think these players are coming from dial 1800 elite players at one point yes maybe Michael Parsons is tradable because he's asking for too much money but after last week losing overshown, can't afford not to keep him.. That's just too many holes to fill you must sign the guy and hope that he is not asking for ridiculous money want to be one of the top five highest paid pass rushers sure even the top paid one this is the same thing with lamb went through he was deserving of a top five contract and took #2 maybe we'll find that in Parsons..

These contract negotiations are so stupid.

A good team would give Parsons his contract asap and shut up about it.

Stephen and Jerry will move at a snails pace and turn the fan base against Micah and save not a dime in the process when they finally sign him to the highest non-QB contract in the league

However, he can easily imagine an additional 1st round pick in the next two drafts......
Right and we already have a player that's proved he's a elite defensive player so you want to trade him find a way to replace overshown because he's probably not going to be here in 2025 and then because you think drop picks are more valuable because you think they're you're going to just absolutely just on one try with those first round picks going to replace Micah Parsons like you just do that easily you just go into a draft say OK get rid of this guy and we're going to just take these draft picks and we're going to replace him and he's going to be the same guy the same level or he could end up being a boss and they take those two first round picks and they turn out to be Taco Charlton and Mazi Smith or Schoon...HMMMM

Overshown's injury has all but sealed the need to keep my Parsons and no more trade talk yes there was a time where I would've been OK with trading a lot of these guys but in this case you just can't fill that many holes at the same position.. we lost sam last year has to come off injury, lost DOMO most likely not here in 25, Kendricks is older , maybe Liafu develops but then what???

Draft picks mean nothing if you can't replace them with top quality picks and there's no guarantee in doing that I mean we've been seeing Washington what was the name of their pass rusher everyone thought was gonna be generational I can't remember his name he might have been young something like that dude had 7 sacks as a rookie and everyone deemed him to be the next coming and he was not he was an absolute bust...

essentially, parsons was top jersey sales in NFL last year and if not for injuries this year too, se we anticipate him being top 10 again, thus it has a good ROI and we will be investing in Parson.

I will admit, Stephen's NOT closing the door on the possibility. His wording is interesting coz
** he has said in the past the LBer position is the most injured-prone position on the field
** he shut down any talk Dez of NOT getting a new contract with a direct quote " Dez isn't going anywhere, he will be a Cowboy"
** he singled out Dak and Lamb contracts are set but implies they will talk about Parsons and how it fits. Very interesting.....

But here's what we know about Parsons..........his personality/persona is way more aggressive and Dak and Lamb. He's going to demand they pay top and do it NOW or else.

If they decide to trade him for picks, make sure he goes to the AFC. Preferably Pittsburgh. Just for hits and giggles.

And every year Parsons gets beat up to the point where he is not as productive in December because he has been misused. It's not his fault but it is true. Parsons is practically ineffective by the time the regular season is completed. He has done nothing in the playoffs and those are the game that elite players are paid to win.

I know they are hinting on moving him to LB, but c'mon. They said that last season. Something will happen to DE depth, and you will see him on the line.

I'm not a hypocrite; I feel the same way about Prescott and Lamb.

How much longer can Parsons hold up while being blocked by a pair of 300 pounders on almost every other play? He will be in his 5th and 6th seasons with a paycheck around 35-40 million each year when the Cowboys spend those draft picks.

I don't want to do it. If I had my choice of two, I would have kept Parsons and Lamb and I like Dak. The other two are 5 years younger.

So hold on. Is their approach now going to be a) sign no free agents in the offseason AND b) sign none of the stars you've somehow managed to draft?

So basically, build the team exclusively through the draft--and then tear that building down and keep building when the drafted players earn a new contract?

I could be dead wrong but I'm seeing a crack of moving on from Parsons

Bold thinking........leverage Parsons to draft Hunter ( team picking 3rd overall )
