What's it going to be then, eh?

The interesting thing is that Stephen is kind of intentionally the anti-Jerry.

Jerry's all about pom-poms and salesmanship. Stephen is all about ROI and allocation. He's a lot more cut-throat in his responses.

He is getting the benefit of being a little less of a cheerleader and insufferable optimist than his father.

All I know this is the same person who stated a couple of months ago that Dallas' number one offseason priority was getting a backup QB.

And after free agency and the draft we have, yes. Kellen Moore and Dak Prescott.

And no, the attempted trade for Paxton Lynch does not count.

Yep.

That's bassackwards but will give us what we want, which is actual football.

Don't want to hijack the thread but I am not a fan of getting rid of kick-offs, nor changing touchbacks to the 25 yardline.

The game is getting ruined, I tell ya..

They should allow kickoffs in the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter just to keep onside recoveries alive.

The Commanders only recently made that change. Before that they were operating with a similar situation that we are and it killed their franchise as well.

But now they have a qualified visionary in place whose job security will be tied to his results. And whaddya know? Division champs. Clearly an emerging team. Their arrow is up.

9-7 champs that didn't beat a winning team and wouldn't have held Dallas' jock if we were not' crippled by injury.. And what are they doing that's so great? Trying to strengthen the OL, like Dallas already has. Making a splash with Norman ala Brandon Carr. Walking away from bad contracts ala Ware, Murray. I'll give you they have made some good draft picks in rounds 1-3, but the jury is still out on the later rounds.

Their 'football people' are doing the exact same Dallas has done, but for some reason they're on the up.

It's not over yet. I'm holding out hope for Foles or another veteran after 53 cuts.

9-7 after being a downtrodden Jerry Jones-like laughing stock for years.

Outside of this little fantasy land pretty much everyone sees them on the come. An emerging contender because they radically changed their personnel department.

Did he address their assertion that backup QB was a priority and we sit here now with the same problem?

Goupthink at it's finest. We'll see how they preform this year with a tougher schedule.

Browns and Eagles change their personnel department too. Happens all the time in the NFL. Doesn't automatically qualify success.

They were 10-6 in 2012--a team on the rise. What happened?

You do realize that aside from 2 games, they play the exact same schedule that the Cowboys play, correct? Meaning that the Commanders and the other teams in the NFC East play basically the same schedule.

The concept of a "first place schedule" has little bearing now that there are 16 teams in four team divisions in each conference. And, with how turbulent the league is year to year, no one knows whether any schedule is difficult or not. Case in point - no one forecasted the Cowboys going 4-12 last year.

Yet that was what was predicted for 2014 by many of the same 'experts' that are proclaiming the Commanders as the class of the division.

The point is, no on knows what going to happen or how a team will play until they play. I just like to point our natives that are spouted and taken as gospel. The new found Commanders love on this forum is one example.

As a big fan of the Green pick originally I hope it works with him.

Injuries are the only thing standing in the way of a starting caliber RT.

So, I can take the response to mean that your comment of a tougher schedule is not really true, and you acknowledge that?

Why not? They wanted Lynch but decided not to overpay. Who do you propose they signed, traded for or drafted?

No really. On paper, they have a tougher schedule than last year and two games (that differ from Dallas) makes a huge difference in a 16 game season--though, not sure why you are bringing up Dallas' schedule when I was comparing Washington's 2015 vs 2016.

But, I will concede that we don't know how teams will play this year, so it's tougher on paper only.

fwiw only...
In pre-draft rankings, Smith rated significantly higher than any of them.

Draft Scout's Inc rated Goff and Wentz slightly above Geno Smith and on par with Blake Bortles.
Bortles looks like he might be pretty good though, so if they turn out to be on that level, that is at least starter quality.

Changes at the personnel department doesn't guarantee success but it beats sticking with the same failure till death do you part.

Sorry. You're talking to the wrong person. Sell it to a foam finger waver. Hiring real personnel men and holding them accountable for results beats the lunatic and his nepotism any day.

Of course you are.

And don't forget C.J. Mosley is a nobody.

He's not a nobody. I looked past him by mistake, as I said. But you've got this autistic loop you can't seem to break free of.
