You guys are letting the media affect ur viewpoints and opinions. I love both Kickoffs And Punts!!!! That is football. If you don't like it go watch baseball, basketball, soccer, etc. Football is suppose to be tough and played by tough ppl. Heck let players that don't want to play go start a flag football league and all you softies can go watch that. Don't come to our game of real football and try to change it. If you don't like it leave. That applies to Roger Goodell and all those pacifists like Mckay , Fisher and the whole crapping bunch. Let Parcell , Hines Ward, Darren Woodson, Rod Woodson, Rodney Harrison, Jerome Bettis, Larry Allen, Erik Williams and those type of dudes run the Competition Committee!!!!!! Enough of this changing the game.!!! ENOUGH!!!

No I'm not. I'm not a dumb***. I can see what those types of collisions do. It's like being in a car wreck every Sunday.

I don't really know how to manage it really. There are some crazy hits, but at the same time it's some of the most exciting, game changing, and more importantly, unexpected plays you'll see.

Eliminating kickoffs also leads to eliminating onsides kicks which takes a lot of excitement out of close games or possible comebacks.

Tough call. I think taking them out completely hampers the game though

I agree about the excitment, but some of the injuries that come from these plays are the worst in the game. The odds in an injury happening like that is highest in those plays.

Did Stephen mention anything about making any additional signings?

It's good to read that there is some semblance of sanity on display at Cowboys headquarters. We'll see how the plan pans out soon enough.

Nice to hear all the newly revealed positivity about Chaz Green coming from Stephen. Here's hoping it's for real and not just offseason hype.

If we can get a player out of Wilson and Green, the draft starts to look pretty good.

Come on Randy.

Yeah taking kickoffs out of the game is a stupid idea. Why change what isn't broken and has worked for years and years?

Plus kick returns are some of the most exciting plays in football!

It will also suck because the great return guys that can't grasp the WR position, but are elite retuners and make a living doing that! Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.

I agree, but what they need to do is talk with all the ST coaches and get them to stop the blind hits, and instead
of hitting, tackle the normal way, and same for blocking.
Players now launch with hits, and that where most of the injurys happen.
Only the ST coaches can change that.

Thanks for sharing.

Wonder if anyone on here heard his thoughts on D-Law and Gregory?

I hav not read through all the posts yet. I isually do a thread on this too. I,listened to it, but haven't had time to put my notes into a post yet.

He didn't rally elaborate on them much. Just said they will prepare that they will miss the 4 games. If Lawrence comes back after 2 games, or if reduced to no games, that would be great. Will have to wait and see. But preparing for the 4 games.

I don't think he could say much more or wanted too.

I don't think Jerry or Stephen are evaluating talent.

I think they are information collecters and they just repeat to us how the actual coaches and scouts view the talent.

Jerry is the General Manager and although I agree with you that most of the information if not all is gathered and also evaluated by the scouting department and coaching staff, as acting General Manager I'll be willing to bet that Jerry does his best to offer his evaluations as well.

They kind of messed up, which we will like for one season.

Now, you get the ball at the 25 on touchbacks, so teams are going to try and pop fly it to the 2-yard line and make a tackle.

Of course, they'll see their error, and eliminate them altogether next year.

There are ways to fix the whole kickoff problem.
1. How about not letting guys get a running start.
2. How about only allowing a maximum of 4 players from the end zone to the 40 yard line. This will eliminate the long run collisions.
3. Last but not least they need to implement a defenseless player rule just as they do for defenseless receiver. If a guy isn't looking, you can't unload on him. Like the Golden Tate on Sean Lee hit.

Also I have said for years if you want to get concussions to come down 80%+ go back to leather helmets. Players won't lead with there heads anymore. Common sense.

How about not playing the game if you can't take a hit. I've played more than my share of football in my life. Football is voluntary, no one is forced to play. If you're not tough enough to take the pain, go play a sport that doesn't require you to be that type of a tough person. Start another sport that incorporates ur ideas, but don't mess up our game of NFL football. By the age of 23 or 24, I could not find anymore guys that wanted to go play tackle football. I respect their decision, but that's the type of guys that you don't have play NFL football or run the game of NFL football. There's hawaiin football flag football for the wusses to go play.

What's good news? I didn't see any news. I just saw a bad failed fake talent evaluator tell us what he thinks. The Mayowa comment was common sense.

Rah rah and all that but what Stephen thinks of any player couldn't possibly mean less to me.

If we only had 'real football men' in charge like the skins we'd be fine

The Commanders only recently made that change. Before that they were operating with a similar situation that we are and it killed their franchise as well.

But now they have a qualified visionary in place whose job security will be tied to his results. And whaddya know? Division champs. Clearly an emerging team. Their arrow is up.

It's 2016. Are we honestly going to continue this nonsense that the Jones boys have a clue? Seriously?

Feel free to feel positive over this stuff. It's worthless, but feel free. I chimed in when I read about this "news". We don't have that kind of collateral where our front office's opinions can be trusted and become news. What you read here are the words of a guy who was one of the chief architects in this team's destruction. For 20 years. He likes some of these players. That's great. I can write a book on the players he liked that couldn't play. What does it mean? Absolutely nothing.

Now if you want to trust him like he's some expert with a proven track record, by all means, have at it but pardon me if I scoff when I see it.

I'm not telling anyone not to feel positive. Just don't let the opinion of a complete failure be the reason for your positivity.

Starting to have a good feeling about the upcoming season! Compared to last year when my initial optimism was starting to fade as the summer approached. If Chaz is the real deal, it will be ridiculous how loaded we will be!

Off Topic: OKC Thunder will beat Golden State

I had to express this somewhere

I expect kickoffs will be gone in 5 years. Just the way the game is moving

I hope they replace it with a worthy exciting play.

Proposal:

the kicker of the winning coin toss to start the game can choose to kick and defend or attempt to recover. The play begins at the 25 of the kicking team.

One player from each team lines up on the same side as the kicker. The kicker and player of the same team kicking represents the defense.

The kicker and same player on defense cannot advance the ball but the offensive representative can. Defense would have to tackle if the offensive can recover the ball first.

The kicker represents the defensive endzone and is kicking to the offensive endzone.

Any ball that reaches inside the offenses 20 yard line can be recovered by the defense For change of possession.

A ball kicked before the offense 20 and touched first by the defense is a dead ball. Possession goes to offense.

Kicker is valued and motivated to kick deep.
Offense still has a chance to score.
Defense has a chance to recover.

The two players will be able race for the ball showing speed and coordination.

There is a chance to return the ball for a TD against the 2 players on defense. It would be a hell of a play though.

There is a chance for the defense to recover if the ball lands inside the 20.

Interesting that he put last season on Garrett. That's a noticeable change from Jerry who typically would defend his coaches.

Gives me hope that if Garrett spits out another .500 or so season this year or worse, that a change could be a possibility.
