Stephen Jones on @1053thefan's G-Bag Nation show said he expects Cowboys QB Kyle Orton to take part in all of the mandatory offseason work.
Stephen Jones said signing Anthony Spencer to a 1-year deal doesn't really impact how the Cowboys will draft in the first round.
.@JC1053 asks: If Manziel is there, do you take him? Stephen Jones: "Those are all things that we'll have to work out. Purely speculation."
Stephen Jones on evaluating DTs: "If a player's ceiling may be a one-technique, then it may be hard for him to make our first round."
Stephen Jones: Timmy Jernigan is "obviously a great football player," but we're evaluating if he can he be a three-technique in our system.
Dallas Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones: "I think if a guy is high enough on the board, then you would take any position."
Stephen Jones: "A safety is capable of being a first round pick and being a top half of the first round pick if he’s dominant enough."

I like this line below. When your team is full of holes, that is the right attitude. We are rebuilding right now, BPA is who we should take.

Seriously. We have so many holes that no position should be off limits. The only positions that would probably upset me if drafted in the 1st round would be WR, C, TE, RB. Probably CB too. Hopefully the true BPA fits well right into 1 of our most glaring holes.

All teams have holes. Even the Seahawks and Niners.

There is really no such thing as rebuilding anymore so long as you have a quarterback.

The Ravens and Seahawks are two of the worst team ever to win the Super Bowl. You don't have to be great. Just a tad better than the other average teams.

Bingo. I wish all of our fans saw it this way. They are so worried about immediately fixing the defense but don't realize that we are still years away from going anywhere. When you have holes everywhere.. you take BPA. We are in the position we are in now because of the "We are only one or 2 players away from a championship" mentality the Cowboys had in he past.

There are holes and then there are HOLES. We have the HOLES variety. We are nowhere near a team like the Seahags or 49'ers right now. Those teams are fully rebuilt. We are in the broke building phase right now.

Not with a pass rush. I realize that's not just a little thing, but it is the source of the problems.

This is an 8-8 team that is a good pass rush from being 10-6 or 11-5.

And just watch Seattle this year. I have a funny feeling they're in for a tough season. They aren't that good compared to champions of the past.

I agree, I don't think this team is years away and in todays NFL with draft and FA there is no true rebuilding.

The only wild card we really have right now are the unproven players already on the roster that have been deemed to have legit potential. If we even come close to striking gold on some of those question marks (Bass, Crawford, Wilcox, Claiborne, Carter, etc) we could field a significantly better team next year. I think the main thing we as fans can pin our 2014 hopes on right now is the development of our own players. Because the reality is you can only turnover so much of your roster (specifically starters) in one offseason.

I agree that the NFL is set up to not have teams take years to rebuild, but for some reason we haven't been able to get over that hump. Hoping with last years draft and a good one this year, that we may be on the right track. Fingers crossed.

Listening to some people on this board you'd think we won 4 games last season, not 8. You rebuild this D line and you have a respectable defense. Especially in a weak division there is no need to have a see you in 2016 type of attitude.

I saw where he mentioned Safety as a position to value in the first if the player is dominant enough. I wonder if they like Pryor or was implying only for Earl Thomas type of potential.

We are several good players away from a legit pass rush right now. Not to mention our secondary is very weak as well. We have one average safety right now and that is Church. The others haven't shown squat. You bring up a team like Seattle but Seattle has an extremely solid defensive line and they also have a strong secondary as well. It takes time and smart decisions to get to where Seattle or SF is right now. I have hope for the future but this year we are not 1 or 2 players away from going anywhere.

Yeah, who knows there. I think if Dix was BPA there we would take him. Not sure on Pryor though. I would be fine with Dix, although I prefer Donald. Ultimately, BPA is what I would hope for.

Carter is looking more and more like a bust and Claiborne isn't far behind. I still haven't given up on Claiborne yet though. Not sure what to think of Bass and Crawford yet. Wilcox looks like he has potential but who knows.

I'm @ that point as well. Got my pet choices (Pryor,Barr,Donald) but if the team makes a logical choice, I am more than fine by that (Dix, Martin, etc.). Just don't trade back hoping we strike gold twice (Frederick). Slight drop, okay, not half the round.
