The ROY haters are fun to read- their irrational bile is kind of funny in a pathetic way.

It's hilarious that Stephen denies it (probably a crock of bull) yet he is still everybody's hero for being the catalyst to sending TO packing. Stephen, the Cowboys Zone can see right through you.:laugh2:

Stephen Jones gives most of the "credit" to his father in his own subtle way, of course he could have gone to daddy and whispered in his ear, and intice him to do what he wants him to do.

With that said, what else would you expect a professional to say? He acted in the proper manner of nothing but praise for T.O. as it should be.

Any dirty laundry should be aired in private, one of the reasons this became an issue last season. But that's another story right? LMAO !

:lmao:

This is in the current issue of Star Mag in a column titled "3 & Out." They put 3 questions to Stephen Jones including this one:

Star Mag: Were you bothered by Terrell Owens naming you as the reason he was released?

Stephen Jones: Well, I'm flattered that someone would think I could make that decision, because no one's made decisions like that around here for the last 20 years except one guy. I think a lot of Terrell, he's a really good football player and I think Jerry described it the very best, you look at the whole picture. Age, what you're paying him, what their production is, how they fit, the medical, the whole nine yards, and then you make decisions, I hate that Terrell thinks that because I do respect Terrell. He was very productive for us.

This appears in the print version on Star Mag. I couldn't find it online, but here's the link to the site: http://www.dallascowboysstar.com/.
this cant be true

according to some around here he was the sole reason.

it had nothing to do with input from garrett or anyone else. hes needs to stop lying and say it was all me:rolleyes:

seriously he knows he was a factor in it but hes not gonna dime himself or the others involved out

especially with a lot of uncertainty it has caused amongst the fans

dont be suprised if they wait and see how the boys do then someone suddenly comes out and says something.

if we go 11-5 next yr i bet he wont have a problem then cause there will be no fear of backlash at that point

I wanted TO to be cut BADLY
but I saw the reasoning behind signing him in the 1st place, he gave us a huge spark his 1st 2 years here

Same here. I liked the idea but I knew he had a shelf life here, especially if we didn't win immediately.

Resigning him was not a mistake. Resigning him to 4 years with a load of guaranteed $$$$$ instead of the year to year roster bonuses we originally signed him to was a MASSIVE mistake.

Put Romo in for the 3 games he missed and TO stays around his consistent above average numbers as a Cowboy.

I disagree.

Terrell Owens had 12 receptions for 100 yards and 1 touchdown in the 3 games Tony Romo missed.

Jason Witten 7 receptions for 52 yards and 0 touchdowns in the same stretch.

That didn't stop Witten from finishing as the team's leading pass receiver for the second straight season and doing what he was supposed to do.

Neither did a litany of injuries.

The thing that really jumps out about Owens' season is first down conversions.

He had 38 of them on 69 catches.

The prior two years Owens had 69 conversions on 81 receptions and 62 conversions on 85 receptions.

The only time he's had fewer than that in a full 16 game season was a s a rookie in '96 when he had 23.

Roy's game can only go up
it seemed that TO's production was starting to take a dip, and kind of like Roy Williams the safety, they found TO's kryptonite, so-to-speak

I'd be surprised if TO is ever able to not get stymied by the press w/ safety help over the top

No one answers this question though. If Owens was starting to visibly lose a step, why would defensive coordinators still devote an extra safety to him every pass play. They play to win in this league, and they wouldn't have just done that based on reputation. Look at what happened in San Fran when they tried to man him up.

Roy Williams got manned up the entire year by every team's 2nd best corner man to man, and looked no better than Pat Crayton. Real talk.

Because it ensures that your opponent only has 10 players on the field at that point, regardless if he's lost a step or not. They forced our hand to Jason Witten, whom everyone knew the ball was going to, as well as to the other receivers which one didn't even know all the plays (Williams) and the others are coverable 1 on 1.

Well the Jones' have been talking out the side of their mouths all offseason, hard to tell what they really mean anymore.

It also prevented us from getting another nice supplemental pick for losing Owens' services when they get handed out next year.

The thing with TO is you would never let him go with an expired contract. Could you imagine him during the last year of a non-extended contract?

This is a very disingenuous statement from Stepen, whom I respect tremendously.

Simple question comes to mind quickly:

If the Cowboys, as an organization, thought that about T.O., then why extend his contract ?

It's like in the movie a few good men: " If private Santiago wasn't to be touched, then why the transfer order ? "

Bottom line is that Stephen, if he was behind the T.O. release, should come out and say so instead of just " passing the responsability ". Nobody is going to blame him. Heck, he probably would be praised by certainly the media, and a good number of Cowboys' fans.

Real talk or not, I still believe we'll have great addition by subtraction. We won't have to appease any one player anymore to avoid some nonsense. Williams has MUCH better hands/catching ability as well to make some grabs in double coverage...Owens got alligator arms pretty often this past year.
