Any hope the sideshow circus would end when Jerry is gone, hasn't heard Goober talk much. He scares me more at times. I like this roster a lot....let's lose the hyperbole.

Stephen Jones says Cowboys have deepest roster in team’s history

Originally posted on Pro Talk | By Nick Geddes | Last updated 8/22/23

The Dallas Cowboys are a supremely talented bunch, with aspirations of hoisting their first Lombardi Trophy since 1996.

And if you take it from team executive vice president Stephen Jones, the 2023 version of the Cowboys just may be the deepest roster the franchise has ever assembled. Yes, that would include the Cowboys of the 90s, which won three Super Bowls led by Pro Football Hall of Famers Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin.

“I think this is as deep a team as we’ve ever had,” Jones said Tuesday, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “There’s no question it’s going to be the hardest 53 cut that we’ve had in years and years.”

Wait, I just thought of another one:

This just in. Stephen Jones gave himself employee of the month due to his shrewd maneuvering of the "very real thing" salary cap.

I am convinced free agency was implemented because the rest of the league was terrified that the Cowboys were going to win 5 Super Bowls in a row with an undefeated season or two in the mix.

And they got Jerry to lead the charge to his own detriment.
THIS. Jerry signed his own death warrant when he spearheaded changes to the salary cap. He will never win another SB due to his own doing.

I actually think he might be right.

It's going to be a tough task containing Lamb and Cooks, and the rest of our guys. If anything worries me on offense, it's the depth at RB, and OL, which I think we work out one way or another. Losing Overshown hurts, because he can do so much and taking him on the 45 allows you to take less depth at at least two positions. It also gives you flexibility with the 53. Plus, his potential will likely pan out on the field eventually.

Even without him, we are still in pretty good shape depth-wise. I haven't seen a team this deep since, I can't remember when. So I think Stephen Jones is onto something. We shall see.
BWAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Of course you would. The nonsense never ends with you.

I see Stephen is taking up the mantle of selling wolf tickets. Seasoned fans know better.
Yep, more kool-aid to drink up. They just can’t get enough hype in.

So what happens if this team hyped as best ever doesn’t meet the 90’s success . Do we fire them all? Lol

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy on LB DeMarvion Overshown: "He has been frankly, you could make the argument, the star of the rookie class. He stood up the first time we got in the meeting room and the walkthrough with his command. ...He was just exceling at every opportunity."

When I heard he did the pregame breakdown I knew he was one of the guys the team loved. Rookies usually don't do that

Did he go blind when watching the second string O-line?
No, he has to keep saying stupid stuff like this so Jerry doesn't drop him from his will.

Or.......... maybe he really is that dumb and blind

Kevin Smith was special and I was watching. He openly talked smack to Jerry Rice and then backed it up. His injury cut his career short but he was going to be a total shutdown.

You seem to have forgotten about a few guys. Dave Thomas was a backup who eventually started for the Jaguars. Brock Marion backed up CB and safety, eventually becoming a three time Pro Bowler at Miami.

Who would ever want to back up Emmitt Smith? Talk about a deadend job. And tell me about the current team's depth at RB. They may well surprise but, for now, they are undrafted free agents except one 6th round rookie....

I'm sure you can search and find a few positions in the 90's that were not deep. However, I assumed the discussion was about general overall depth. Not only is the current team not even close, their "depth" is almost entirely unproven.
i disagree i watched every game back in the 90s they were not special, but they were solid , very good but not special. that's how i see it, sorry

i'm still waiting on the long list of all this depth that we had

No, we remember it accurately because we both lived it and have the games still recorded from when they aired live.

You watched every game in the 90's but can't seem to remember the amount of depth the Cowboys had?

The offensive line? The safeties? The D-line? The linebackers?

You actually need me to list these players? That team won three Super Bowls but you, a Cowboys fan, can't seem to remember half the players on that team? I watched every game thirty years ago just as you claim you did and I remember them, of course I do. I remember the starting lineup of the 1971 team.

That's how you see it? How is that possible if you can't even remember it.

No, I'm not going to make you a list. Go find it yourself, it might do you some good to be reminded just how special that team was from top to bottom. I'm truly surprised that you actually need to.

The Cowboys incredible depth on that team was a matter of record. I'm totally shocked that this would be challenged.....by a Cowboys fan, no less!
