You can't pigeon hole yourself because there is no certainty. Quite frankly, as I've stated before, I'd draft a QB in the 1st round every single year if I had to until I got it right because the position is simply that important. And going with the Mettenbergers and Stantons of thew world is exactly the type of strategy you want to avoid: hope. Because that's what you'd be doing on such a long shot.

The best:

Brady: 6th round
Brees: 2nd round
Romo: undrafted
Peyton: 1st overall
Rodgers: late 1st, sat for years
Roethlisberger: 1st round 12 years ago, after Eli and Rivers
Newton: 1st overall, very unimpressive for a long time until now

Who is this draft do you see even remotely in that category worth taking in the top ten?

I was thinking that perhaps we had found our backup QB in Moore. What we need to find is our future starter.

Some of you are so quick to make judgments it's mind boggling....tap the brakes! Moore has never even started a regular season game he has a long way to go to show he can be a solid backup QB who can win games in a pinch. He has some potential but we haven't seen near enough of him yet to anoint him as our backup QB moving forward.

Having Romo makes taking a QB early a no-brainer. The pressure is off. Romo will play for a couple years and we will have time to ease Lynch, Goff, Wentz or Cook into a starting role.

The player we miss out on by drafting a QB can be acquired by FA or trade. QBs cannot usually be bought.

Moore already looked better than Weeden and Cassell. I thought it was premature to say we HADNT found our backup QB, esp since Moore is getting two more auditions.

It's way premature to say we HAVE found our backup QB when he hasn't even started a regular season game yet. Getting two more auditions means exactly that he's auditioning. If he shows enough in the next two games he'll continue his audition next summer.

First it was Jerry with failed Baseball players, now people here want him to start a trend with failed QBs from one of the worst franchises in the NFL.

Yep! That’s a recipe for success if I ever saw one.

How do you say Manziel is a failed QB?

I guess when Aikman went 1-15 his first season you were calling for Walsh to start?

Oh my..

And failing in Cleveland is nothing new.

Weeden did the same thing.

And look at Weeden now!

He got away from Failed Dallas and has 2 win for the Texans and nearly has them in the playoffs.

If its failure you want to capitaize..

spell it DAllAS COWBOYS.

I was commenting on the poster I was replying too who said we could get Manziel for a fourth round draft pick and if that were true then the Browns would consider him a failure.

As for Weeden you now comment after last w/ends performance (which did look very good) where as my post was before then and I’m sure you wouldn’t have disagreed to strongly with me at that point.

Let’s see him repeat that performance a few more times and then we’ll get a larger sample size to judge him on.

However as to your last point about the Boys I can’t say I disagree with you. It looks like we manage to screw just about everything up.

Moore doesn't look better. Weeden had a qb rating over 90. Cassell is currently at 70.6. Moore, after 2 games, is 45.5

The #1 priority should be finding the next franchise quarterback and if he's a backup for a few years until Romo's wheels fall off...then fine. We don't need a backup lifer Stephen. Get a clue.

Cowboys once again being reactive rather than proactive. This front office can't see past the end of its nose. Three QBs drafted in the last 25 years.... smh. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if we pass on drafting one again this year.

Understood.

I like Manziel..saw alot at A&M to like..

Just reminds me a bunch of a younger healthier Romo.

I know he has a free spirit..but he's what 20?

This guy has little negative milage having come out early and riding the bench in Cleveland.

If it happens he's available..

Jerrah would probably not think twice about passing him up a second time.

I've been watching alot of the bowl games as many of us probably are and there are several good ones available to us depending on where we draft.

I just hope we get a guy who is mobile and will spread the defense and take advantage of the OL opening holes for him along with the RBs.

I really liked the QB from Army..I know the scouts say he is a RB possibility..

but he reminds me of Seattles QB and that ain"t bad.

Manziel would make a quality backup but under no circumstances should he be considered the future! Jerry needs to draft Tony's heir; Manziel as the heir apparent (in Jerry's eyes) would be another costly oversight on Jerry's apart.

Agree, you never know what Jerry will do in the draft. Just like they passed on RB last year...could have drafted Langford, David Johnson, or Rawls who apparently they tried to get in FA (why not draft Rawls in the 7th???).

I hope when Jerry is saying "backup" he really means eventual replacement!

Why draft a QB when we already have a darn good one when we can make the team around him better approach. A lot of other teams wasted a lot of draft picks on QB just to take one. We just didn't want to do that.

Well, Lynch and Cook looked like crap on a stick in the bowl games. Draft stock plummeting.
