I'm of the opinion that the FO should communicate absolute ZIP when it comes to game strategy of your own team in a public forum for everyone to see.
Even trivial comments like this from Stevie.

I like how Garrett is mindfully obtuse with the media. Unfortunately the rest of the barkers at the circus are readily and willingly barking.

I love Coach Pop when he is interviewed:

Interviewer: Coach- How do you think your team is doing with the so-and-so doing such-and-such?
Pop: Turnovers.
Interviewer: What kind of changes you'd like to see with your team in the second half?
Pop: Turnovers.
Interviewer: Thank you Coach.
Pop: Whatever.

That's giving away zip. That's giving nobody nuttin'.
I believe Red would give answers like that if he could.

"What's you're strategy coming into the season Coach?"
"We want to win to the best of our abilities."
"How do you plan on getting to that point with such and such and so and so doing this and that?"
"By winning utilizing the best of our abilities. Any other questions? Thank you and goodnight."

I don't think many care what Jerry or Stephen say. To be fair they are just repeating what they are told. I don't care because everyone wants to run the ball effectively so they aren't saying anything. I agree they should just talk about the weather yada.

Here is the ultimate say nothing interview:

JB, there's a whole lot wrong with your post and I say that respectfully. I'll even go a step further. I'm not even sure you completely agree with everything you've posted because you're moving some goal posts to fit into your opinion.

What do you think these guys do? They sit with the coaches and scouts and look at film as part of their player acquisition side of their job. You can't do that and not learn.

Is this really a standard we now use to qualify someone as an expert in a certain field? Is this really the standard and level of experience that we want from our Director of Player Personnel? Would you fly in a plane with a pilot that learned ostensibly by observing (as the son of the owner that bought the airline company) and sitting in the cockpit but never had any formal training from the ground up? Or would you go to a "physician" with the same set of "experience?" The fact that Stephen sits in on meetings means very little to how well he can do his job if he hasn't had the benefit of learning his trade. I sit and meet with many lawyers but that will never make me a lawyer and if I somehow magically was bestowed the title of Juris Doctorate, that doesn't mean I'd be qualified to be a lawyer or ever be a good one without the appropriate education, background and training.

I get it. Football is not life or death and it's a business. The owners can run it any way they see fit. And while it may be a good way to run a business by having your family deeply involved in the business side of things (and even that can be questionable), it's not the right way to run the franchise or the football side of things. Matter of fact, the results thus far point to it being an utter failure and from the football side, wins/losses are the results that matter; not the dollars and cents the business side brings in.

I'm not a huge fan of Jerry or Stephen although I see the pros and cons of each in my own way.

There are no "pros" where the football side is concerned. Jerry's now the last of the Mohicans after Mike Brown stepped back. If this was an effective way of doing business relative to football (not business), then other teams would be doing it.

The question is how much did they learn, from whom, and how are they applying it. You can wonder if they could have risen to their present position the old fashioned way but it doesn't matter in the end.

Sure it matters because the results matter, or at least they should. But we've moved away from being a results oriented fan base to the new mantra of "look what we're building here." I'll give Jerry credit, he's completely marketed and changed the standard by which sports teams are judged and some fans have bought it hook, line and sinker.

Just a very brief response to two points. One...I agree Jerry is the last of the Mohicans although that is a slap in the face of the Mohicans. Two....Stephen is in the FO not the coaching side and I made that plain. But he does learn from lots of smart guys so he is knowledgeable. There is nothing else to be gleaned from those two statements.
