Stephen says Cowboys will finalize franchise tag for George Pickens

And just how is it guaranteed the team will be better overall.
They know what they have in Pickens.

Most fans in love with Roseman and the Eagles on here say do what he does. now you disagree?

You do not sell a winning stock to take a chance on 4 unknown stocks.
Unless your overall portfolio sucks, then you do.

It is not difficult to see the road the Jones' are on. Prepare to be disappointed.

1. They have not even started negotiations.
2. They are not freeing up massive amounts of cap space.

Nothing has changed.
Making him play a prove it year on the tag is not a bad idea.

I also don't think we will like it. Paying $28M in one year will have a negative impact on what we can do in FA.
Until proven otherwise Jerry and Stephen will negatively impact what we do in FA.

This makes no sense. You keep the winner. Sell the losers, then take the chance on the new stock.
So will Jerry dump the losers use that space on new.

I’m sure he’ll be exactly like Tee Higgins. Their seasons on the last year of their rookie deals are very similar. (Higgins 2023 & Pickens 2025). George should have the same sentiments as Tee and find the tag just as reasonable as Higgins did. When you think of it, the Cowboys are very similar to the Bengals, too.
Similar as in poorly ran? I agree.

Typical Jones BS. This is why Dallas hasn’t done Jack squat in 30 years. If you like the player, sign him. If not let him walk and focus on other areas of need. The drama and offseason distractions are unnecessary.
Players are a commodity. You don't let them walk if they have value.

Remember the Walker trade? We aren't in that bad of shape yet, but that's exactly what they did. Sometimes you have to sell whatever you have of value to get ahead.

And if he doesn’t sign the tag immediately, what then?
My strategy wouldn't be to trade him before the season anyway so it wouldn't matter. I'm playing the season like the offense is set with him and see if I can fix the defense. Many think we just need an average defense to compete for a SB because the offense was so strong last year. I don't agree but I would still roll with maintaining the offense and trying to improve the defense. If by the trade deadline we still suck overall, trade him then. If he plays like last year a contender who needs him will likely pony up with a good offer. If he doesn't then I dodged a bullet by not extending him. But I think there's a good chance he plays good on the tag for the same reasons as last year. And who knows maybe those who believe we were only a mediocre defense away from competing for a championship were right. Although history is not on their side.

Commodities aren’t people. Mismanaging contracts impose a massive negative X factor. Look at what happened in the Parsons deal. The human element is too unpredictable. This is where Jerruh absolutely stinks as a GM.

WRONG, I mean I get it but 2023 by far with the least number of protections through the run game, and the WR 2, they had the best production.

Proves that Lamb can do this with Prescott and without a bunch of stuff,

So what, YES we need is a solid WR2, just a really good one, we do not need an elite top flight super starter as WR2..

show me where some other examples in the league of teams going deep in the playoffs with two receivers playing for over $34 million apiece? Show me where that's the blueprint for success or our fans being a little bit selfish thinking that's what they need on the other side when most teams cannot afford to do that and still maintain a better built and deeper team throughout.

Yes it's nice to have another guy on the other side like GP,

but when you say regress,

you're forgetting that those years sometimes or because of injuries ,and what not And the points per game in 2022, five of those were because Cooper Rush, who everyone here still claims could run this offense better because he doesn't turn the ball over he stays within the lines, oh that's right he had this offense so bad that little stretch that Dak missed, I believe it was five games, Literally had our offense bottom 10 in points and all other categories by the way.. The defense and special teams They were playing great in that little stretch is why we won the games but our offense was horrible..

then Prescott came back with a broken hand a little early already recovering from like a problem with his calf, I believe in preseason whatever it was it was , not because of WR2, because of a lot of other factors, you're choosing to forget whether it's purposeful or not you're forgetting the actual issues in 2022 it was not missing Amari Cooper it was more than that.. He brought that team during that stretch he got back back up to top three as a matter of fact in scoring and all that to end that season they were on top.

when Prescott came back in 2022 after being injured just because the interceptions were higher we all know why most of it were drops ricochets, bad routes, or Prescott being hit while in the process of throwing, because of a bad offensive line at times and we still have that problem at tackle,

but I just want to remind you that 2023 was awesome and they did not have Amari Cooper or George Pickens And I believe this offense the scheme and what not is better they have a better run game,

So, I believe they'll be OK without George Pickens..

Prescott win healthy and has a little bit of help He's fine with just having Lamb and a good wide receiver room and the tight ends just doing their job and a good run game It's already been proven although George Pickens has never proven he couldn't do it without help He's never been on his own out on an island and we saw how Lamb and Prescott destroyed the league in 2023..

Yes,

we need to make sure we draft A WR2 and we might need to bring in another veteran for about a third of the price, that can be coupled with Flournoy, the draftee, and the rest of the offense,

I think will be just fine..
Sorry I didn't read the whole post but responding to what we do or don't need. Since we haven't ever had what we needed how can we say?

I’m sure this will all go over well with Pickens agent.

You're all over the place. Trading a player instead of simply letting him walk isn't dehumanizing. Unless he's earned it like with a career worth of greatness like Emmit, Ware, or Brady.

I agree. Although I favor signing him. The team finally has something they can count on working and they seemingly can’t figure out how to maintain it. In addition, if you’re going to pay your quarterback $60 million per season your best bet to get your money’s worth out of him is provide him two great receivers. The team should consider trying to sign Likely if possible.

Rarely do you see teams pay the QB and 2 receivers top of the market. And the ones that have generally aren't successful. You can point to the eagles but I think Howie did it because he didn't actually believe in Hurts, the owner did. Because he also went out and got Barkley.
