Stephen says Cowboys will finalize franchise tag for George Pickens

For 2023 think complimentary football. When either side of the ball struggled against a good team the wheels fell completely off. Niners, Bills, and GB in the playoffs level of fell off.
Both sides sucked in the run game. Good teams exploited it.

This FO should hire a contract negotiator to do that task that they're sorely unable to handle.
Obviously, the Cowboys' FO has proven to be unqualified for success in that capacity.

Eh with the Aubrey wrench they may be just trying to see which tag to put on which player

Rarely do you see teams pay the QB and 2 receivers top of the market. And the ones that have generally aren't successful. You can point to the eagles but I think Howie did it because he didn't actually believe in Hurts, the owner did. Because he also went out and got Barkley.
The comparatively reasonable $25 million per season Smith signed only goes into effect next month. It’s for 2026, 2027 & 2028. So, in fact, they (Eagles) have not been paying two top receivers.

Tagging Pickens risks actually paying for two top compensation receivers, even if it’s just for one season. That $28+ million all hits the 2026 cap. It should not affect the team’s ability to sign top tier free agents, but Jerry may well use it as an excuse when they don’t.

This season is an opportunity for the Cowboys as Philly is clearly “downshifting”. They’ll be losing significant talent to free agency, as they did last year. Deals for Carter and Davis loom in their very near future. The Giants and Commanders have a way to before they’re back in the Super Bowl conversation. If Jerry would just exhibit some imagination and managerial courage this could be an interesting year.

While this is true, the difference in cap hit from 2025 through 2027 isn't even 2%. Don't get me wrong, what you're saying often makes a big difference. Just not in his case.

Aubrey's Agent knows he can't be tagged. So his Agent is taking advantage of it. Can't blame him.

If you put a second round tender on him, I think someone might out bid what the Cowboys want to pay. If you put a first round tender, then I believe we have to pay him $8.1M. Not sure anyone would be willing to give up a 1st for Aubrey other than Al Davis, but I am sure Jeruh does not want to pay that either.

They actually let amari become a FA and shop himself then worked out a deal.
I have to imagine they did that though because they didn’t expect Washington to offer the mega deal they did. And if you remember, he was extension eligible as soon as they traded for him, they just chose not to sign him then or the year after…. Despite his price going up and up & everyone knowing they had to extend him to recoup the 1st round pick they spent on him

I want to know the ins and outs of coming up with a contract, and negotiating the actual numbers and language in the contract and why it takes as long as it does.

Market value is 34 million, the player says he wants 35, you're really going to hold that player's money up over 1 extra million dollars??? I know there's things to think of like other players on the team but sheesh!
That's assuming they are willing to pay market value. What if they aren't?

You mean like they did with Dak? Oh wait, no they didn't because if he doesn't sign the tag you can't trade him.
Dak. Credibility woosh.gone.
He can agree to a trade, and sign the tender

Not without Jerry giving teams permission to negotiate a contract with Pickens. Jerry has the power to do that now. He has not done it.

No team is trading anything for Pickens without a deal in place. Pickens isn’t signing the tag without a deal in place. if Jerry wanted Pickens here the deal would be done.

Jerry will begin talking to teams

If Jerry really wanted Pickens here, we wouldn't be in this place.

You're all over the place. Trading a player instead of simply letting him walk isn't dehumanizing. Unless he's earned it like with a career worth of greatness like Emmit, Ware, or Brady.
I never said trade GP. He should be resigned.
