Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones when asked on @1053thefan about trying to re-sign soon-to-be free agents like DT Osa Odighizuwa, CB Jourdan Lewis, DE Chauncey Golston and RB Rico Dowdle:

“We want them back. They’ve shown that they are Dallas Cowboys football players. They’re certainly guys we want to have back, it’s just making all the calculus work when it comes to fitting everybody under the salary cap.”

Get ready for honest offers!
Mass exodus incoming....

#1 priority should be to find a way to get Dak off the team. Dak is an anchor around the neck of the team. Sooner you get rid of him the sooner you can start the rebuild Just take the cap hit for a year or two because this team isn't going anywhere with Dak
Nailed it!

Stephen : ”CAP IS TIGHT! NO MONEY!”

Jerry : “NO MONEY! CAP IS REALLY TIGHT”

They realize the fans are not idiots and know there is ample cap space to make moves.

WE BETTER SPEND IT ALL ON OUR OWN GUYS!!!!

Re-signing Odig and Dowdle concern me, because they may be asking enough to ensure that they have to be starters. I like both players as rotation players, but if signing them prohibits us from trying to improve their positions, I'd rather move on.

Signing them certainly doesn't prohibit them from improving the position.

If they sign them for big money, it certainly will. Dallas isn't going to pay Odighizuwa to be a starting 3-tech and then go out and draft a first-round 3-tech. The Cowboys aren't going to pay Dowdle starting RB money and then draft a RB in the first or second round. If they give them starting pay, which may be what it takes to keep them, then we may add later-round players at those spots, but we won't spend premium picks on them.

I really worry that by bringing Rico back, he means paying him a ton of money and forcing the Lions share of carries on him....when the smart thing to do would be to bring in a talented rookie to pair with him. See Gibbs and Montgomery in Detroit.
