Stephen: We'll probably use the franchise tag again this year

If applicable, I would place a right of first refusal on LVE and a first or second round tender on Wilson (this would get a 2nd or 3rd in return if someone signed him, respectively). Its really hard to tell what these guys market value is compared to the value they bring to the current defensive strategy.

The same could be said for Pollard. What's his street value after the injury?
I could be wrong here so do your own research, but I believe unless you are using the franchise tag you can only put tenders on your restricted free agents. LVE and Wilson would both be unrestricted FAs and uneligible.

As for Pollard I can't believe the injury has any impact on his FA value. It was a high ankle sprain and a broken fibula. Neither is an abnormal injury and both have history of short recovery times and guys coming back 100%. I'm yet to see a report that has a recovery time of less than 90 days for Pollard.

Teams can put a transition tag on a free agent that had been on their team the previous season. I believe that it guarantees the player a one year salary at the average of the top 10 paid players at that position, and allows the team that tagged the player the right of first refusal for any offer sheet.

While that is 100% true there is a reason teams hardly use the transition tag these days. It's great if no team actually makes an offer as it's cheaper than the franchise tag, but the problem now becomes if a team does make an offer you have a 3rd party team that is creating a long term contract with your player and in order to match it you have to agree to all the terms of what was put into that offer sheet. So basically you're letting another team lay out the terms of a multi year deal that that fits their cap structure, not yours. Plus now any bonus money, contract escalator milestones, or built in restructures you have no control over. Plus if the player walks you don't get any draft compensation under the transition tag. It's really not very useful to teams. Great in theory though, I wish the NFL/NFLPA could come up with a way to use it better.

Schultz wouldn't shock me.

Not that I'm advocating it. I hate to see so much money devoted to the RB position though.
Yeah Schultz is the one other option i could see, but franchising a player twice is more expensive too. I believe he would have to make 120% of what he did last year at a minimum.

I see nothing wrong with that because you all will be pissed if Pollard is just as good as he was last year and he's lighting it up in another team. My advice is to do exactly what they are doing:

1. Tag Pollard
2. Draft a top RB in this draft
3. Release Zeke to save money

If Pollard turns out to be money, you can sign him again next year. If not, you already have his replacement in your roster. This situation is seriously not that hard.

Not applicable for either

"We're not afraid" says the guy who always gets caught on camera biting his nails in the suite during games. Jerry, be a man and leave the franchise to Charlotte.
Charlotte already has the Panthers, if anything relocating to the Raleigh-Durham area makes more sense for a second NC team

Why would he not be ready to go until October?
Well because he had tightrope surgery to repair a high ankle sprain and broken fibula in late January and I’ve heard more than 1 person say they never regained their full flexibility back after having the same surgery. Now granted, theses folks are not world class athletes but it still is a little worrisome in my opinion to just automatically assume Pollard is going to be 100% next year.
