Stephen: We're going to take a long hard look at how we've looked at free agency

Last year we spent a league low $18.5 million in free agency - I’ll be shocked if we crack 20 million this year.
Prepare to be shocked. 25 - 10 equals 15 and they will have around 100 million in cap space.

It's simple math.
The Cowboys already have 56 players under contract for next year. When you remove the three that are void years (Martin, Lawrence, and Cooks) they have 53 under contract. They have 10 draft picks. Sure they should be more active in actual free agency, but this number is similar to what we saw in 2024 and look what we did then. We actually had less people under contract going into last offseason then we do this offseason.

Not saying it won't happen, but from a math standpoint its not as simple as you say (if they choose to go cheap again - like signing 11 free agents last year for $18.8 million total).

And until shown otherwise you should prepare to not be (see above). Edit: I hope I am wrong but nothing about what he said or this situation screams otherwise until I see it. If they were going to be active in free agency he could have just said that.

there's an old saying....if the dog didn't bite as a pup, he's probably not going to bite. Well, if Stephen didn't realize long ago that they've been botching free agency- there's probably no hope for him.

$45 million of that would be converting Dak's base salary next year into signing bonus and kicking it further down the road. While they may do it, probably not something that will help this team down the road when they actually may be competitive beyond the first round of the playoffs.

Its not about just signing some players, its about the quality.
Just signing some bodies to fill out the roster, like street free agents, undrafted rookie free agents, bargain basement FA’s isnt what anyone means when talking about being more active in FA.

They are doing it and they will do it with Lamb and gain cap space when the sign Parsons.
