I don't have a link because I saw it on "The Aftermath" today on the NFL Network.

Basically, after watching highlights of the Dallas/Houston game and the Philly/St. Louis game, Wyche said (and I am paraphrasing): "Both The Cowboys and The Eagles are sitting atop the NFC East at 4-and-1, but I feel better about Dallas because only one of those teams has an identity. When you are going to play Dallas, you know what you're going to get. They're going to come in and pound the ball. They're going to be more physical than you on both sides of the ball. I'm not sure what Philly is."

They go on to talk about how the Eagles don't have an identity, how what they were doing on offense last year that worked, isn't working this year.

A similar topic was brought up on NFLN last night on the segment with Irvin and Faulk. I had to smile and shake my head listening to Faulk continue to tote the Eagles' banner saying 'they just find ways to win games' and then turn around and fault the Cowboys for finding a way to win yesterday because they weren't dominant (dominant was a word used by Irvin to describe us the week before).

IDK, I don't like that the Eagles keep winning games they should lose when their offense is not working as advertised, because I think Chip's too good a coach to not figure out the offense eventually. But, all things considered, I don't see how you can look at how both teams are playing and not like the Cowboys' way better right now.

That said, it's the Giants that have me more spooked than the Eagles after 5 games. They've adapted, and their new offense covers up a lot of the pass protection deficiencies they had going into the season with that OL. I'm really looking forward to that game against them in two weeks.

A west coast passing offense now...

Faulk can't stand Irvin's homerific tendencies. Dallas will have to do very well all year long to keep Marshall from giving Mike hell all year long about his dominant quote. Irvin also said that the Dallas offense was unstoppable if Terrance Williams starts playing very well. Faulk won't let him (or anyone) forget.

The only way people could continue to say Philly is the better team is because they won the division last year and because they are expecting a collapse by Dallas. Won't they be surprised when it doesn't come?

I agree, the Giants have turned it around. I'm as concerned about NY as I am Philly.

"They're going to be more physical than you on both sides of the ball."

It's really good to hear an impartial observer make that comment.

It truly was. When he said that, I got a big ol' grin on my face because I've been wanting that for so long.

When we were more physical that San Francisco to open the season, I felt really good about this team. SF is one of the top 3 NFL teams in terms of toughness right now. To out hit and outfight those guys let us know right from the get-go that Garrett is finally getting the tough, physical team he's been wanting.

Like I said in the OP, they were talking about how the same plays that worked last year simply aren't working now for Philly. Nate Burlinson, who was also on the show, said that he thought Philly snuck up on teams last year from the standpoint that none of the defensive coordinators knew much about what Kelly would do. He said that defenses now have had time to dissect his offense and are much better prepared to play it. He also went on to say that none of the WR's scare anyone. One of the guys on the panel (can't remember who) said that last year defenses had to worry about D Jackson taking the top off of the defense and that losing him really hurt.

As far as I'm concerned though, it isn't what Philly is or isn't doing... what matters is what Dallas IS doing. Dallas is simply out hitting and out fighting other teams, and that is what is so exciting to me.

My God, when was the last time people were saying that about our Boys? Even the better teams in the 2000s didn't get that type of description.

That's very good to hear because it's always been the complete opposite. Dallas was always a very talented team but you never knew what you were gonna get. The defense could shut you down one week and give up 50 points the next. The offense could lay an egg one week and break records the next. This year it's different. Look at the defense. The talent isn't really there like it has been in the past. In the past, you had a lot of names and not a lot of team. You could point out players and say "he's good, he's a Pro Bowler, he's an All Pro", but that's where it stopped. Now, you might not even be able to name 75% of the guys on defense, but you know they're gonna show up to play. I almost trust them more. I don't know how they're gonna play well because I don't know who's who, but I know they will play well. That's a first in Dallas.

For having such a terrible offense this season, Philly sure does score a lot of points still...

They've scored <30 points once this season. Foles has 1300 yards and 8 TD's. McCoy had his best game of the season this week.

The same people hyping Dallas a little too quickly, need to pump the break when they put down the Eagles.

All that said, the Giants were the best of the bunch this week. THAT is what worries me. This isn't a two horse race anymore.

It feels good to know that the Cowboys have an "identity" now, but I've never considered that a requirement for a winning team.

I agree. I think Philly does have an identity. They still score points, play fast paced, have a strong O-line, run the ball, and play that Chip Kelly style. I think people just have short attention spans. Last year, people were saying identity was the only reason Philly was winning. This year, they're still winning the same way but suddenly don't have identity.

Very well said. It honestly was kind of the opposite before now.

The physical nature of this team is the best thing that could've happened to Dallas. You will wear down a lot of teams with that.
