Stephen Jones will never be GM of the Dallas Cowboys, he is actually smart enough to realize he isn't close to qualified. He will be a better owner than Jerry Jones ever was simply by deciding to hire a real GM. Jerry's greatest move as an owner will be the day he decides to step down.

On point. Playoffs, and winning those playoffs, is the goal and that hasn't been accomplished. But the team is in much, much, much better shape today than 5 or 8 years ago. Stephen, Will McClay, Garrett all deserve credit, as well as Jerry for stepping back as much as he has. It's similar to the Parcells era; no playoff wins, but he returned a moribund, laughing-stock franchise to competitiveness and respectability. Now, Garrett may not be the answer to taking the team to the next level, but he's been instrumental in the positives that have taken place. I think of Garrett like Moses, he got them out of bondage, but can't take them to the Promised Land.
right on..

Do you guys think Steven will change anything if and when he becomes the GM of the Cowboys? If you think it will be different, in what way?

If Jerry passes away and the team falls to Stephen, I think he hires a GM. I thought that was the story from years ago.

He'll probably be a hands on owner, because he does have a lot of experience, but I don't see him playing the "Look at me I'm the GM game" that Jerry does. I bet Stephen and Will already have an understanding that Will is GM in waiting.

Do you have evidence for that claim or is it just wishful thinking?

It’s probably not going to change much.

Jerry is only GM in name only. Dallas has employed a committee approach to roster building for quite some time and I doubt that changes.
This guy hit the nail on the head. Our stylebook will remain mostly the same. So much so that most don't even notice.

Stephen is the driving force behind pushing Romo out. I hate him.

Stephen doesn't fancy himself a "football man" like his father. He's a numbers guy. I see him sliding into a more traditional owners role and hiring a real GM.

I'm cautiously optimistic that he'll be the opposite of Jerry in the right ways. His interviews give me the impression that he's a little more level-headed than Jerry.

As much as I thought Romo had more in him, he would have been running with the Devil if he had risked playing after coming back from that back injury. Being crippled and rich has a hollow ring to it. I don't know the details of Romo's departure, (who did who, etc.) but if Stephen pulled the string, he may have saved Romo from destruction.

I distinctly recall Stephen publicly stating in the past that he has no intention whatsoever of being the Cowboys' GM whenever Jerry ceases to do so.

I'm not inclined to disregard his statement since I have no cause to ignore such things. I'd presume he meant what he said until he states otherwise.
Hey, that's what I was going to say. :p
