Still believe what the Jones boys say?

When it became apparent Zeke was holding out at the beginning of training camp this summer, Stephen Jones famously declared, “We’re not going to set the market.”

Jerry made chest thumping declarations implying opposition to Zeke’s contract position. Remember “Zeke Who”? Remember his long winded wandering defiant answers at Jaylon Smith’s contract extension press conference? Or his calls to a Dallas radio station?

I don’t have a problem with Zeke’s contract. Glad he’s getting paid. My problem is with the frequent and distracting mouth running of our front office. The Jones boys love to talk. But in the end, they don’t say much that ends up being true.

When it comes to how to make money, ABSOLUTELY!

They may not have set the market. Zekes deal doesn’t begin for 2 more years. By that time 15 mil may not be tops for a RB. It’s average is the highest but also has most years of team control. It’s a compromise.

Plus of the 90 mil only 50 is guaranteed so it allows them to get out in the later years if needed
I think the team came out pretty well in this..I don't think Zeke is going to be a 10-12 year back, I think he's going to hit the wall hard. But glad this is all over with

If you're expecting the Jones boys to shut up and not talk, you're setting yourself up for anger and frustration. It simply comes with the territory, you take the good and the bad when it comes to those two.
You know, people actually think they care what people think about them. I get the same thing here. People think I actually care what their opinion is about what I say. Stay true my cowboy brother. Isn't it great being an individual

Well they’ve put together a top 5 roster which is actually really difficult to do. Just ask Detroit, Oakland, TB and others who’ve tried for 15 years to do that.
They have built an excellent roster. And they do deserve credit for that. Its half the equation to winning a championship. But I’m withholding accolades until they win some playoff games with this roster.

How is it Jerry and Stephens job for winning playoff games if the roster they built got them there? If the coaching isn’t good enough then they’ll upgrade it after the year.

They stacked the roster so now it’s known is it a roster problem or coaching problem.

I have no issues with it. It's all talk. It's all marketing. They know how to make $$$. And boy did they play everyone on this.

Not everyone, I and several other people here weeks ago said that the public statements aren't necessarily what the private conversations are. I also said that Jerry learned his lesson from missing Emmitt for the first two games of the 1993 season, sure they won the SB that year but it took a heroic effort by Emmitt to get home field advantage, with a team that just won the SB the year before. That's difficult to do, and this team was not a SB team next year.

May not be this one, either, but without Zeke it's far more unlikely. I'm not dissing Pollard, but even if he's 90% as good as Zeke (and I'm not saying he is), that 10% could well be the difference between a title and another also-ran season....

I don’t think they minded Elliot not showing to TC and we don’t play him preseason. The jaw jacking wasnt needed but that’s them. And we don’t know what Elliot’s side was originally asking. Maybe 17 a year or something unreal. In the end both sides bent.
* I've just "jumped in" on this& while it's true that I've not read the O.P. of this thread, I'm bound by the oath of fealty in proclaiming that: the Football Dad "bent" the lesser of the TWO parties involved,,,o_O

and if they win it all there is no problem? I'm sure if they do win it all Jones will get no credit from their critics and same will go for Garrett and his critics.

All of their talking is just posturing and negotiating through the media... and no one knows to what extent it was actually successful

Did JJ’s talk about playing Pollard and the kid’s preseason snaps actually make Zeke think JJ may call his bluff and go into the season without getting a deal done?

Who knows?

All we know is that when it came time to either take the field with a lesser roster or flush game checks down the drain— both sides stepped up and got the deal done

To criticize the Jones for talking to the media is like criticizing the rain because it’s wet...

If we win another Lombardi, I will give Jerry and JG huge credit.

My problem with Jerry is simple. He has made winning a championship here unnecessarily difficult. It has zero to do with Jerry as a person. The NFL is a results oriented league. Jerry himself famously said the night he bought the team, “Winning is the name of the game.” That’s exactly where Jerry has failed for over two decades.

More exactly- winning in the playoffs is the name of the game. Until he proves we can do that again under his leadership, I will remain skeptical of Jerry as a GM.

Shouldn’t people at the top be held accountable for results?

Super Bowl Winner? They can't even built a team capable of advancing past the divisional round playoff. We are basically returning the same team that got smoked by the Rams.....

Can't agree totally, for several reasons. As far as the team, meaning players, is concerned, they beefed up the pass rush with Quinn (when he gets back), they have a bigger and stronger C. Williams (by all accounts), they added a veteran receiver in Cobb, Witten is back (the leadership is the main part, not his physical play, though he's probably still going to be open a lot) , Lawrence had the bothersome shoulder fixed, Pollard is a fresh back that teams haven't played against, and by far the biggest factor is the return of Travis Frederick. Looney played well, but he's no Frederick, obviously.

And coaching is at least different, NO Linehan with his vanilla offense. Add to that Richard having a full off season with the defense.

Basically the same team? Numbers-wise, sure, most of the same starters, but looking at the above I think the team is better...

I think winning championships is difficult period. There are still several franchise who have never won it and still a few who has never sniffed it. I have never had issues with people being skeptical or critical. I do not agree with Jerry on Gregory

Cowboys fans can watch this and perhaps better self-tolerate the Joneses.

The Cowboys generally sign guys at below their value, so i have no problem with them talking. Also it is kinda their team. This was a fair deal for both parties, they both saved face.
While I've just
" jumped in " & it's true that I've not even read the Threads O.P. yet, I am compelled thru my oath of fealty in proclaiming that Football Dad saved the much more face of the two parties
