Still the team to beat, amazingly

Dallas is 0-4 without Romo. If we had won ONE game it might look more plausible.

I feel your frustrations, but I expect Cassel to improve as we go. I do wish we could play these three teams in the reverse order though.

My hope mostly lies in the reality that it might only take eight wins to take the division, and Dallas would be MUCH better team than 8-8 by then.

It actually sets up Romo nicely to show the nation how good he has really been all along. There's your smiley face on this.

We could win the division at 7-9. Seattle did it. But how often does that happen?
We could get on a roll down the strecth and win the SB like the Giants have done in the past , after having a ho-hum season. But, how often does that happen?

We arent GB, Seattle, NE, PIttsburgh, Balt, etc etc....

We have won two playoff games in how many years??

This is it. This is the Dallas Cowboys....This is what they are.

I agree. I see no reason why the Cowboys can't beat the Seahawks next week. Take it one game at a time. The Seahawks aren't the same dominant team they were. Right now they aren't even an average team. They've had trouble getting to the quarterback, given up a lot of big plays through the air, not forcing turnovers, and their offense is anemic. Shut down the run game and force their pass game to beat you and they won't. Like last season. Their wide recievers are no better than Dallas right now. Graham has been a horrible fit there. Offensive line wasn't good last year, but losing Unger makes them one of the worst in the league.

We saw some great signs yesterday. Our offensive line looked dominant. Collins looked outstanding in his first NFL start. There were gaping holes. Martin and Frederick were road graders on the interior. Just like last year. McFadden ran hard and looked dynamic and explosive. Obviously having more of a threat at quarterback helped the cause. We imposed our will against the Giants. It was great to see. Defense only gave up three points in the second half and just 230 yards overall. Even without takeaways we win that game pretty easily if Cassel isn't so careless with the ball and the two gaffes on Special Teams.

The division is a joke. The Giants needed a miracle to beat a severely undermanned Cowboys team that was clearly superior yesterday. We got more than enough pressure on Eli. As expected Hardy dominated the interior of that line. They were better against the run in the second half. Their defense is terrible. Cassel had all day to throw. He just made some boneheaded decisions. They allowed Devin Street to get behind the defense. Allowed Darren McFadden to have his best day as a pro. Rodgers Cromartie looked like their only NFL defensive back. Philadelphia isn't going anywhere with Sam Bradford without Kiko Alonso their run defense is dreadful. They lost Jason Peters who's their best player on either side of the ball. Great DL, but that's about the only thing they have going for them. The Commanders needed a miracle comeback to beat the lowly Bucs.

Dallas is still right in this thing.

Fortunately, despite all the misfortune and calamity.

A win yesterday would have put Dallas alone in first place. The loss put them alone in last. Ladies and gentlemen, your NFC East...

This division looks like a bucket of something a cat threw up. That was the absolute best game the Giants are capable of. The Eagles are a healthy hot mess of ineptitude. The Commanders are still the dysfunctional Keystone Cops they always are.

If Dallas was healthy, they'd almost have this division wrapped up by now. But "if" never listens to reality, as we all know.

Unlike the other East teams, we know this isn't the Dallas Cowboys. There are at least two more gears for this team to go to, eventually, when the best two players on the roster return. Some plays are getting made, but not enough, and especially not enough to eliminate the mistakes by those who aren't supposed to matter. Turnovers remain a frustratingly one-way street. Every penalty or mistake is making twice the dent they would if all hands were on deck.

Still, I remain impatiently optimistic through this grueling wait, although the mulligans are running thin.

At least Cassell is significantly better than Weeden, particularly when you consider he just got here. He should only improve as we go as he gets more comfortable with his team and playbook, even with the Seattle defense next up. At least he's not afraid to play quarterback, unlike Weeden, who would probably cry, literally, if he played against Seattle this week. Good gosh, he's a chicken you-know-what.

Dez is soon to arrive. Hopefully Seattle, but if not, by Philadelphia. That should make the entire passing game better, which should then feed this resurgent running game we saw yesterday. The Eagles game looks winnable, as does Tampa. And lest we forget, the Seahawks are 2-4, too, and they're actually healthy. That's not as impossible as it sounds.

Marinelli's defense has its parts now (although Ro McClain looked awful yesterday), and I fully expect this turnover outage to restore itself soon. It just doesn't make sense, and football tends to finds its way to an even level if the talent is on hand. This has to turn Dallas' way soon defensively.

Lastly, Romo is three games away. What will be left when he gets here? What will the division standings look like? Will 8 wins win the division or will it take 9? Nobody's winning 10 unless Dallas suddenly goes on a roll.

The others in this division don't have a Dez and Romo on the way. They are what they are already, 8-8 teams at best. As bad as it's been for Dallas, the Cowboys are only 1.5 games out of first place. This is not time to panic, though it darn sure feels like it. Sheesh.

This will either be a season to remember for all time, or a cataclysmic crash of the highest of hopes. That happens when elite QBs go down, but it stings just the same.

Thankfully, the football gods hocked a loogie on this division, and hope remains real and possible.

So there's that.

No we are not. Be quiet.

But lose to the Seahawks, you can probably put a fork in us IMO.

Is this year 6 of the rebuild master plan ... meanwhile, Atlanta turned it around quickly with head coach in year 1 there, Minnesota year 2 of Zimmer, look at San Francisco when Harbaugh was there and many more examples ... and I was totally disgusted as a fan after that 100 yard KO return and all our head coach does is clap, really, that was ridiculous.

we have to win games outside of this division to win this division.

we have a tall task ahead. we are not the team to beat, we are one of four teams scrambling.

Yes, but the Cowboys are the scrambling team that gets the two best players in the division back soon.

The other scrambling teams are what they are already.

If Romo and Dez were healthy, Dallas would probably be 5-1 right now.

And the key will be do we have enough time or wins,... and can we play well outside of those two players... because up to this point we haven't, save a few individual performances... there's a chance... but I don't think "We are the team to beat"....

I agree with that, especially if Dunbar is healthy as well. Unfortunately that's not how this sport works. If we were better coached, and disciplined, we'd still have 4 wins right now in my opinion.

We'll most likely be 2-7 when Romo gets back so it won't much matter.

Dallas can still win the division... but their margin for error grows remarkably thin.

With the hot mess they've had at QB the past 4 games, I can't see them as the team to beat, but if they happen to steal a couple of the next 3 games before Romo comes back, they could evolve into that team by the end of the season.

They have the defense to do it (finally)... they just have to start scoring some points and winning the turnover battle... and therein lies the rub.

There were some very positive signs from yesterday's game though: The OL and run game looked probably better than last year's, considering the passing game wasn't backing the Giants up at all... and the time of possession was slanted heavily in Dallas' favor. Without the bonehead INT's, that game is easily in the Cowboys favor.

That offense, along with the excellent Dallas defense can win some games. Just have to limit the mistakes. Throw in that this was Cassel's first ever game for this team and his first on any team since last year and you can expect some improvement in the next game or so.

It isn't going to be easy... but it is possible.
