Still the team to beat, amazingly

Yep. We barely beat these awful Giants with Romo. And our offense with Romo got shut down by Philly in game 2. My point is our offense had problems even with Romo and Dez. And our defense had problems even with Hardy, Gregory, Lee and McClain. You have to be flawless to go 7-0 against Miami, Washington twice, Jets, Buffalo, Panthers and Packers. New England would struggle and they've been mistake-free as usual. Talent has never been our issue. We've always had talent. Our issue has been mistakes. It's like we're cursed. Late game INTs, fumbles by WRs and RBs, mishaps by special teams, defensive collapses. We've been doing it for over a decade. You don't win in the playoffs making mistakes and you don't go 7-0 against that schedule (see above) making mistakes.

Why people keep saying this is hilarious to me. Dallas wins that game easily if not for the turnovers and Dez didn't even finish the game. We didn't even play a full game. Barely half a game with our full lineup. Offense didn't even get shut down against the Eagles. They got a robbed of a TD by Escobar. Yet again. They weren't great, but saying they got shut down when if it wasn't for a absurd overturn is ridiculous. Green Bay is undefeated and on the road of course that'll be difficult to win, but it's not like they've just been blowing teams out. The last two home games have been close games against two far inferior teams to that of a healthy Dallas team. Buffalo has clearly underachieved this year. The Jets are a good team, but that game is at home. All winnable games. Washington is terrible. They needed a miracle to beat another terrible team in Tampa Bay. Not sold on Carolina. They have yet to face a real explosive offense and prove they can win in a game that isn't grinded out. Miami has played better as of late, but Romo will be back for that game. That alone gives us the advantage.

And we're still tuning the ball over... so what do you think that says?

Ridiculous. Teams aren't allowed to hit anymore in camp. None of them. Dallas had the same camp as everybody else in that regard.

Yep, I wondered what he meant with that remark myself. Training camp practices are dictated by the CBA. I don't know, maybe he thinks Garrett should have them out there running gassers all day every day.

If not for the turnovers is my point. We've been keeping bad teams in the game for a decade. We don't blow out teams. Lack of discipline and general bad luck.

Seattle is 3-4, Philly is horrible but Weeden didn't start that game, and TB is awful but fully capable of beating this current Cowboy team. We know that if the Cowboys were healthy, this division race would be over, but they're not, and the Cowboys as currently constructed, are not the team to beat.

This is on point 100%.

I appreciate optimism, but this team in its current state is not better than New York, Washington or even Philadelphia. I fully expect the team will be in a run the table situation when Romo returns. I think it's possible and even plausible this team still makes a wild card game, but every unit on the team has to play better and the last four games don't inspire much confidence in that happening.

My question is, if this team goes 0-7 without Romo, does Garrett catch any flack or does he get a pass?

Crazy thing is (and we're obviously *not* the team to beat in the NFCE right now), but we really aren't that far out of it, despite all the negative plays. The East is really just dreadful this season. And that Giants team we rolled over for yesterday is not good. They can't get any pressure at all, and they can't threaten you downfield with any consistency. They're capable of getitng hot, and playing better, but they're not a good team, either. And PHI and WAS are in just as much trouble as we're in, or close to it, without the benefit of the two all-pro's returning.

It's a weird season. And not in a good way.

I get that. 7-9 might win the division. The problem is that we are 0-4 without Romo and have put up 46 points in the last 10 quarters.

It actually sets up Romo nicely to show the nation how good he has really been all along. There's your smiley face on this.

For those still questioning his abilities, forget when he comes back, all they have to do is look at the past four games without him to get a feel for his value to this team.

Anybody who was questioning Romo's abilities before he went out was already so hopelessly lost that it had ceased to matter, anyway. Honestly.

No Romo or Dez. And this is what they are?

bad breaks, but just the latest excuse for losing football games. When the excuse was "we got caught in the salary cap changes" after the triplets era was over, I bought it. I even bought some of the others.....and maybe Romo/Dez being hurt is a legitmate excuse, although others have pointed out, organizations suffer just as much as we do with injuries and find a way to win some ball games. But I dont care if its a legit excuse or not..... its just another reason to point the finger in another direction.

over 20 years. Money keeps rolling in, so it really doesnt matter.

Except to people like me. Who just want to see their team make a super bowl, before they die. It must be easier on the younger fans. They didnt get use to being a proud franchise and a team that competed year in and year out, save a few seasons......

Making the playoffs was expected. And I thought last year was for real. I really did. I thought, this was it.

But we have regressed. Even with Romo/Dez playing the team reminds me of the 8-8 teams.

There is time , they can fix it. But it will most likely not be this season. So, lets see what happens next year......hey, were Cowboys fans, were used to this.

Its fine to wear rose colored glasses, but a meteor is going to strike the Earth and destroy all carbon based life forms. Sorry if the Koolaid drinkers don't like it, but I'm just being realistic.

I dont think Cowboys Fans, Players, FO, coaches or water boys, should be talking about anything to do with being a good or great team.

Not Romo.
Not Dez.
Not JG
Not JJ.

No fans should be bragging, or expecting anything!

Were a franchise, for whatever reasons, cant win in the NFL. Were the Browns, Bills, Chargers, Texans, ...

We can be good in small stretches, flash some awesome talent, have some great games. We just cant do it for any long period of time...Year in and year out , were just lower middle tier with some hope and some dreams.

I think Tony should shutup about going to the Super Bowl. Dez can pipe down about being the best. Fans who makes excuses for all the losing..etc etc...

I think the #cowboyszone just needs to quiet down all the talk about playoffs, and great players, and Super Bowls and records and all that.

Win. Win a SuperBowl. win a freaking game for crying out loud!!!! how about we do that first.

and anyone thinking we were disciplined and had many playmakers before the injuries have to reevaluate that as well...

Dallas is 2-4.

Seattle is 2-4.

Philadelphia is 3-4, and lost to Weeden.

Tampa is 2-4.

Seriously?

The Saints were 0fer and the Giants are terrible. We are done. As much as I hate to say it, I believe it's true. I hope I'm proven 100% wrong.

While I'm almost at the point of hopeless, I do think we may be still in it. But it's hard for me to be encouraged when we lose winnable games. We should be 5-1 even without Romo.

Second, I wonder how much pressure we'll be putting on Romo when he returns. I'm sure he can handle it, but I wonder if he presses too much knowing that he's the one who has to rescue the Cowboys season.

Third, if this, indeed, is the year we tank, I'm looking forward to the draft. I think when healthy this team is a Super Bowl contender. I think this defense will play differently and better with a healthy Romo and Dez. But if we don't get it together this year, a strong draft awaits us. We could get a young quarterback, a stud running back, a plug-and-play DT or a good corner in this draft. And you put that with what we already have, I still think we'll make the Super Bowl within a two-to-three year window if Romo stays healthy, and we add even better players.

Has it been any different his whole Cowboys career?

I like your post a lot, so when I read this from you... a little more air goes out the football. :(
This season has been the biggest hit in the gut I can remember. It's like it was over before it really started. If Romo was coming back with 8 or 9 games left, I'd feel a little different, but we could literally be undefeated with Romo starting and it likely won't even matter. Our one hope is that no one in the NFCE is above .500 when Romo gets back. If that is the case, then I think the division is ours.

The giants being terrible is actually reason to still have hope. No one in the east is likely to run away from the pack.

No, and he pressed into mistakes because that was the case. I hope we'll cut him some slack if he feels the weight of the franchise is on his shoulders and presses too much.
