Parcells said of MBIII (paraphrasing): "sometimes the OL has to block their guys twice so Marion can get to the line of scrimage."
I think Parcells prefers better jets on his RB's. I would be surprised to see him give up anything to get Barber.

Yea, but Parcell say a lot of thing about player . . . He told Witten that he was not good (as a matter of fact after Parcell's retired from the cowboys he gave witten a list of things to do in the offseason to be a more productive tight end). Then the was the "anointing" comment about Romo. I don't take much stock in what Parcells says . . . it's just talk to motivate the player.

That said, if he gives up a 1st and a 3rd for MBIII, I would take it any day of the week and twice on Sundays. MBIII is good, but not that good that you let a sweet draft deal like that go. Besides, look at what happened between ths Jets and the Patriots after that transaction was made. The Pats because a powerhouse and the Jets went down hill.

Honestly, I just don't see the logic of going after Barber when Miami has Ronnie Brown. Even coming off an ACL, he'll still be a good player. They can easily draft a backup. Why give up two picks, when they can use one, who'll be cheaper.

:starspin I agree with you, it just wouldn't make sense for Miami to give up two picks for him, I just don't see it happening.

If he wants to offer that first and third round tender that we're sure to offer Barber, I say have at it.

But, remember even if he does offer that, we have the right to match the contract. We don't have to just let him walk to Miami like Miami did for Welker last season.

But, maybe he could get him (theoretically) with a first and third from next year instead of this year. Suppose he traded this year's first and third to the Giants for a passel of their players, and only then made a play for Barber, or Flo, or anybody else.

He would no longer have a first and third for 2008 to use, but I don't think teams are prohibited from signing restricted free agents merely because they don't have current picks to give in return.

He might be willing to surrender a first and third for 2009 (because, in his mind, the first is sure to be in the high 20s or better).

Just a thought.

On ESPN sportscenter Chris Mortinson said the two free agents most intriguing were Restricted free agents Derek Anderson and Marion Barber, Mort went on to say that now that Tuna is in the picture at Miami,he basically will be a player in getting MBIII.... Give it up MORT!!!!

Yeah Mort... Just like Parcells was gonna retire after the 2005 season, right? And just like he was gonna come back after the 2006 season, right?

Mort's an idiot.

This is all a bunch of *********. The Dolphins don't have holes to fill, they have chasms. If they do ANY trading it will be down to acquire MORE picks not to dump a 1st and a 3rd on a position that is the ONLY strength of their team. Mort is an ***hat.

No, he can't trade the picks away and then try to sign away Barber. Parcells would have to be off his rocker to actually make that move and Mort is a complete doofus for even thinking that Parcells would go after him.

All the football pundits are going to come up with crazy ideas to fill air time, because this is going to be a very boring NFL offseason. With the cap raising, basically every team not named the Commanders have plenty of cap space to tag or resign all their pending free agents and they really don't need to cut anyone. Most of the big free agents have made it known that they want to resign with their current teams. Asante Samuel might be the only marquee player to go elsewhere, because he has a contract stipulation, but I wouldn't be surprised if he resigns.

We all know Parcells likes to run by committee and Barber was his pick in the draft to make the 2 back work in Dallas.

I can see Parcells taking a flyer on MBIII if the Fins can trade down from where they are and pick up multiple #1's from a team and then use one of those to make the offer on MBIII.

But it would have to happen before the draft and before MBIII gets any serious offers from other teams. That's why I think the negotiations with MBII to remain in Dallas are going to drag out.

Dallas doesn't want to overpay and they will let some other team set the market price for him before they come up with a big offer. Dallas will be the last to step up and that might not be very smart.

That might just not get MBIII all that excited. And it might make him wait to get totally free next year and just do a one year deal with Dallas looking for FA in '09.

I think that MBIII returning to Dallas is NOT a slamdunk. And when the agents get involved and player has value, look out.

In the era of players moving for huge contracts and teams desperate to leap on any player that will shove them through any window of opportunity to win..

I can see Dallas thinking itself too invunerable to losing players like MBIII and indeed find themselves scrambling.

MBIII likes Dallas but I have heard nothing about him wanting to be here beyond this last season. Because all the talk was about JuJo and him leaving.

I wouldn't assume anything.

We'll see.

This is just a lazy, easy piece of speculation for Mort to toss up into that Honolulu breeze.

Parcells is about as predictable as they come. He goes with players and coaches he "knows." His history is to always surround himself with "Parcells Guys," be it coaches, players, front office people, etc.

Of course, we also know he migrates to tight ends, big linebackers, coach's sons, guys from New Jersey, and players of Italian descent. ;)

Not that I've read, I think its more of a gentleman's agreement to stop doing that between teams.

I feel like an idiot for even wondering, but I have heard about the "poison pill" contract a few times and have yet figured out what the heck it means.

Please fill my cluelessness in.

Why are so many of you so eager to take the #1 and #3 for Barber? I mean, what player in this draft is worth giving up Marion Barber for, exactly?

If you say D-Mac... well Barber is already a top-5 or top-10 RB in this league and you'd actually have to pay D-Mac more if you have the #1 pick in the draft. And remember, you don't KNOW that McFadden will be as good as Barber. You don't. All you know is that he's at least younger.

Maybe there's another player in this draft that is worth giving up a top-5 or 10 RB for, but I don't think D-Mac is it.

I'd do it if we were sure we could move out of that #1 spot and move down a few. I seriously do not want to take on the contract that you'd have to take on for picking the #1 overall pick.

I'm sure most here, however, couldn't wait to pull out the checkbook and hand over a 60+ contract to DMac just because we've got the #1 pick but there is simply no rookie worth having to pay that kind of deal to.

Exactly. More and more, teams are realizing that having the #1 pick can be as much a burden as a gift. Especially since from like pick 4-8 or so, you can get comparable players at much less cost.
