Paraphrase: "You get the sense the head coach isn't making any of the main decisions on that team." This was followed by a discussion negatively comparing Jerry to Kraft, with special disdain for JJ's radio show.

Thoughts?

We all know that don't we? This is a coach in training per Jerry a few years ago.

I think that Linehan has a lot of influence on the Offense and I think that Marinelli has a lot of influence on the Defense. I think that there are only a few head coaches in the NFL who are good enough or smart enough to influence coordinators in a meaningful way. Garrett might not be one of those guys, I don't know. Doesn't mean he can't be successful. I don't really think Jimmy was that kind of a head coach either. Norv ran his Offense back in the day and Dave Wanstedt ran the Defense. The difference that I see in Jimmy and Jason Garrett is that Jimmy would take control of a critical series and make the hard call. He was usually more right, in those situation, then he was wrong. I haven't seen that form Jason Garrett to this point (or at least it hasn't been reported on). Either way, I don't know that Garrett is a lot different, in that regard, then a lot of head coaches in today's NFL.

Well, when your owner says Cassel should get a chance to start before your head coach announces it, what would that lead one to think?

Look, I'm not going to lie. I had high hopes for Garrett, and I do like the direction the franchise is headed in terms of its emphasis on the draft and building the trenches.

But I have this overarching feeling that Jerry was simply searching for a coach who could let him be him and one who simply was happy to coach the Cowboys. I also think he was looking for his "Tom Landry," a coach he could trust and one he could grow into a great coach.

He found that coach in Garrett. And this may disappoint the "Fire Garrett" crowd, but he's here to stay. He's the Marvin Lewis of Dallas. He works well with Jerry and as long as he doesn't, basically, hit on the owner's wife, he's probably looking at a long tenure as the Cowboys coach.

I have not been impressed with him this year nor his coaching decisions or his ability to coach us to one win during Romo's absence. But this was a Super Bowl or bust season, really. And we aren't nearly as healthy as we thought we would be. So ...

I'm willing to write this season off (I'll leave a sliver of hope seeing how bad the NFC East is) with the knowledge that Dallas will get a few more draft picks and, with health, contend for a Super Bowl in 2017.

But I'm not even going to consider Garrett getting canned because it's not going to happen any time soon.

when you lose everthing is bad everything is questioned and looked at under microscope but they are right garrett is lost and jones still runs the show until jerry is out of the picture it will be this way and they will continue to lose last year was a golden chance and they couldn't finish they gave jones an award last year that he did not deserve or merit then in the offseason him an dhis son made some awful dumb decisions you have a thirty five oft injured year old qb and u don't sign the one guy who gives u a chance next year over a few million dollars they have thrown more money than that out in the bath tub

I agree for the most part. And I am one who likes Garrett. But he , the FO, and the entire team have failing grades right now.

I am not giving up on JG or the FO. But they have to get something going. They have to get something right, .....soon. This year is probably gone, but they need to start winning games.....it concerns me we cant do it without Romo. Maybe next year....but not too far after that...............and I will jump to the , tear it down and build it from scratch crowd. I was already there until last year. Lets see if they can get back to where they were last year. I do think they have earned that. But, its a very short leash right about now......

Were over 2 decades without much...............as a die-hard Cowboys fan, who appreciates how hard it is, this is unacceptable; But hey, the "money" is rolling in.........I could give two BMs about the money.

The problem is he is no Marvin Lewis. Lewis can coach. Lewis might be one and done, but he is on his way to 6 playoff appearances in the last 7 years in a really good division.

I agree, JG is here to stay. But we need a new offense IMO. Not a knock on Linny either. But we need a more innovative offense that can showcase our talents, and adjust to what they do best!

I agree. I wonder what Romo would have done in a WCO.

That's why Campo was hired and why he couldn't wait till Parcells stepped down...and then hired another buddy (Wade) so he could control the "jocks to socks" as he once famously said. Garrett is just an extension of that mind set. I agree with you, unless this team totally implodes, like it did with Wade, I see Garrett being here for a long, long time. But like Marvin Lewis we may not see a legitimate contender for a long time either, im still waiting for this seasons version of the Bengals to implode.

Its not news that all major decisions go through Jerry (maybe Stephen now).

Wonder how McCarthy would do without Rodgers, Belichek without Brady, Sean Payton without Brees. etc etc.

The list goes on for all the "brilliant" coaches who are one injury away from being JAC.

You know my thoughts. If I could have one sports wish it would be to free the Cowboys of the Jones family. He will always be something you have to overcome to win anything. Which is the sign of any quality GM.

Write it down. Jerry was uncomfortable with Jimmy and Big Bill. He's comfortable with Garrett. You don't need to know any more than that to know how much power the head coach has here.
