If we're trading for Harvey Martin or Randy White I'm good with it. Otherwise no way.

Do we really need to debate whether or not trading away one of the better acquisitions the team has had over the past 4-5 years is actually a bad idea? The team pissed away their chance at addressing the DL by drafting guys who can't get on the field. That was mistake #1. Trading away Collins in an attempt to whitewash that mess is just a horrible idea and it would only serve to magnify that mistake in addition to being an equally as big of a mistake in itself.

You can't possibly build a team by taking risks and missing, and then trading away your good decisions to try and compensate for that risk taking. The team wouldn't get equal value that's for damn sure. Find me any team that's itching to get rid of a good pass rusher right now.

What's the "smart move"? Depends on who you ask, I guess, but trading Collins damn sure ain't it. If you ask me, the "smart move" would be to draft players who can actually line up.

Mack or Von Miller or Robert Quinn aren't going to happen, so just to put some some slightly realistic names in mix...

Minnesota for Anthony Barr (24), Houston for Jadevon Clowney (23), San Diego for Jerry Attaochu (23), New England for Jamie Collins (26/27). Any takers? They're all on their first contract. Attaochu and Collins are on the small side for a DE at around 6'3" and 250. They all currently play OLB for their teams, but even the ones in a 4-3 rush more than we send our OLBs. I think Attaochu in particular could blow up in his 3rd year.

Also note that some teams may feel Collins has OT potential and that could drive his value up. But trading him is not something I'd like. He's one of my favorites.

I would hate to lose a great young player like Collins, however, there is a argument to be made that the team has an embarrassment of riches on the OL and the loss of Collins (with moving Leary back into his place) would be a relatively small price to pay vs the huge gain that could be made for a premium pass rusher, if a deal like that could be made.

Jerry had Collins and his mom over to his mansion, promising her that he would take care of her son. Jerry may be this and that but i really dont think hes a man that goes back on his word.

Folks... just drop the Collins trade fantasy. Isn't gonna happen. It would be a monumentally stupid move.

I would trade Romo before Collins.
No way, imo. You did see what our backup Qbs did last year. We would have no chance of winning and would be playing for the top draft pick. The qb class is not that great next year from what the experts say.

Strength for weakness? Is La'el Collins really on Cowboys' trade block?

Strength for weakness? Is La'el Collins really on Cowboys' trade block?

Backup guard Ronald Leary has made it perfectly clear he is not interested in being in that role. The 2012 UDFA signing with 35 starts under his belt wants to be traded to a team where he could get more snaps. However, there might be another solution that would satisfy Leary’s needs. Could the Dallas Cowboys possibly trade 2015 UDFA find and fellow guard La’el Collins for a pass rusher instead of Leary?

“There is a possibility of a trade that might involve one of the Cowboys’ young pieces. The player to keep an eye on could be second-year guard La’el Collins.” – Yahoo Sports

Trading Collins might sound like a crazy idea at first. The first-round talent, has shown flashes of being a pro-bowl caliber player at left guard for years to come. In addition, the potential for Collins to play right tackle once Doug Free leaves is also intriguing. Leary is the one who wants out, but trading him might not net much in return.

A solid pass rusher in return, something Dallas needs desperately with the suspensions involving DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory, in exchange for a downgrade from Collins to Leary is worth consideration. Leary is still young and capable despite his degenerative knee condition.

This could also be a way to get around having to pay a completely All Pro offensive line, top dollar. Making signing Frederick a stronger target for now.

Is this another scheme by Jerry? I'm frankly pi $$ed at the second round draftees busts Jerry has foisted on this team. Then comes the poor development of the draftees he has managed to keep off the suspension list? The team is lacking a bona-fide corner, a for-sure Mike lb, a starter at rde, and a questionable WR to draw defenses away from Dez.

Don't rob Peter to pay Paul. You could get a downgrade at two positions.

Never make yourself weaker at a position!

The only way I would do it is Collins and a 3rd to San Diego for Bosa! I would have to have young talent with huge upside. Otherwise, I deal with signing him when we cross that bridge.

Hell no they aren't gonna trade Collins.

What has happened to the collective IQ of our fan base? Reading Today's posts makes me feel like I fell down the rabbit hole!

Seems like crazy talk.
However, if I'm not mistaken, as an UDFA, Collins was only on a 2 year deal.
I am pretty sure it is a three year deal that can be extended after 2. Could be wrong though.

Do you mean a 2 year deal that be extended to 3?
Does Dallas control the extension?
If so, that helps
Thanks

I was trying to find the original story, can't locate it right now. I am sure it was a 3 year deal fully guaranteed for the UDFA max, and they will have his rights for all three years but can start renegotiation after the 2nd year (next off-season).

I think that's why there is some emphasis on getting T-Fred done, La'el is next.

I too think Collins has an "all pro" career in front of him and I think he's the RKG Garrett craves. I would want
to know that I'm getting full value for him if I'm going to trade him away. It would have to be a young guy who's
already establishing himself as a major force at DE. I don't know of many and what team who has one want's
to trade for a young starting guard?
The Pats did...
