Do we really need to debate whether or not trading away one of the better acquisitions the team has had over the past 4-5 years is actually a bad idea? The team pissed away their chance at addressing the DL by drafting guys who can't get on the field. That was mistake #1. Trading away Collins in an attempt to whitewash that mess is just a horrible idea and it would only serve to magnify that mistake in addition to being an equally as big of a mistake in itself.
You can't possibly build a team by taking risks and missing, and then trading away your good decisions to try and compensate for that risk taking. The team wouldn't get equal value that's for damn sure. Find me any team that's itching to get rid of a good pass rusher right now.
What's the "smart move"? Depends on who you ask, I guess, but trading Collins damn sure ain't it. If you ask me, the "smart move" would be to draft players who can actually line up.
If we're trading for Harvey Martin or Randy White I'm good with it. Otherwise no way.
No way, imo. You did see what our backup Qbs did last year. We would have no chance of winning and would be playing for the top draft pick. The qb class is not that great next year from what the experts say.I would trade Romo before Collins.
Strength for weakness? Is La'el Collins really on Cowboys' trade block?
Strength for weakness? Is La'el Collins really on Cowboys' trade block?
Backup guard Ronald Leary has made it perfectly clear he is not interested in being in that role. The 2012 UDFA signing with 35 starts under his belt wants to be traded to a team where he could get more snaps. However, there might be another solution that would satisfy Leary’s needs. Could the Dallas Cowboys possibly trade 2015 UDFA find and fellow guard La’el Collins for a pass rusher instead of Leary?
“There is a possibility of a trade that might involve one of the Cowboys’ young pieces. The player to keep an eye on could be second-year guard La’el Collins.” – Yahoo Sports
Trading Collins might sound like a crazy idea at first. The first-round talent, has shown flashes of being a pro-bowl caliber player at left guard for years to come. In addition, the potential for Collins to play right tackle once Doug Free leaves is also intriguing. Leary is the one who wants out, but trading him might not net much in return.
A solid pass rusher in return, something Dallas needs desperately with the suspensions involving DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory, in exchange for a downgrade from Collins to Leary is worth consideration. Leary is still young and capable despite his degenerative knee condition.

This could also be a way to get around having to pay a completely All Pro offensive line, top dollar. Making signing Frederick a stronger target for now.
who is the pass rusher would be my question?
I am pretty sure it is a three year deal that can be extended after 2. Could be wrong though.Seems like crazy talk.
However, if I'm not mistaken, as an UDFA, Collins was only on a 2 year deal.
Do you mean a 2 year deal that be extended to 3?I am pretty sure it is a three year deal that can be extended after 2. Could be wrong though.
I was trying to find the original story, can't locate it right now. I am sure it was a 3 year deal fully guaranteed for the UDFA max, and they will have his rights for all three years but can start renegotiation after the 2nd year (next off-season).Do you mean a 2 year deal that be extended to 3?
Does Dallas control the extension?
If so, that helps
Thanks
The Pats did...I too think Collins has an "all pro" career in front of him and I think he's the RKG Garrett craves. I would want
to know that I'm getting full value for him if I'm going to trade him away. It would have to be a young guy who's
already establishing himself as a major force at DE. I don't know of many and what team who has one want's
to trade for a young starting guard?
