According to his sources they were going to pick Eifert over Floyd at 18 if they stayed there FWIW.

I'm pretty sure Broaddus mentioned that in a tweet before the draft. Someone asked something along the lines of if we would draft a skill guy, and he said Eifert was in play.

Glad they traded down then. Imagine them drafting a TE in the 1st, thermonuclear meltdown!

If we would have taken a TE at 18, the server would have crashed on this site.

Yeah, Vaccaro and Eifert were rumored to be the two non linemen on the Cowboys short list.

Given the addition of Williams, I'm good with the outcome.

consistent with what we heard leading up - would have been a solid choice but the board would have gone insane

I would take Eifert.

Bengals have Gresham and they took him. That guy is good.

Supposedly Escobar is a better receiver than him and that is saying a lot.

Plus Escobar is tall. That's got to create some matchup issues.

This is what he said....

With reports that the Cowboys did not follow this process over the weekend when the room disagreed about taking Sharrif Floyd at #18 or trading down to get #31 and #74, we are left with whispers that Jerry Jones stepped in and grabbed the steering wheel when his personnel department and coaching staff wished to do otherwise. They spent all year setting up their board and doing their work, but when the moment of truth arrived, the veto power from the man on the throne slammed down. And the personnel department shook its collective head. It is his team and he can do what he wants, but to go against your brain trust when that has found trouble in the past, well...

As I said on Friday, I think trading down is a solid idea for a team with too many issues to address. And the very real possibility that they received Travis Frederick and Terrance Williams for Sharrif Floyd or possibly, Tyler Eifert seems like pretty good business in one sense. "

I think it was Floyd with the outside chance of Eifert....not for sure Eifert.

Makes sense. if they were willing to take Escobar in the 2nd, then Eifert had to be a strong consideration at 18. Perhaps the room was divided on passing on Eifert in addition to Floyd.

I really like both of our round three picks though. I think we did the right thing in trading down.

I agree,Escobar is really slow.4.84 for a TE is not good.

How fast do you think Witten is? I doubt he is any faster than that. When you're 6'6" with good hands, it doesn't matter if you are 4.84. I have seen reports than he was faster however.

Supposedly he plays faster with people chasing him so we'll see.

Anquan Boldin is a 4.8 guy and you'd never tell by watching him.

I think Witten ran 4.7 or something close.

That's right, a 4.7

btw, referring to a previous post, Boldin ran a 4.7 as well.

Yeah, that stupid Jerry! How Dare he override the collective decision in the roon to get Spears and draft Ware instead.

Oh wait sorry, wrong draft where the veto power from the man on the throne crashed down.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled rant.

If Eifert was the pick at 18, then I'm so glad we traded down because:
  • Escobar is probably not that much of a downgrade at the position, and we really didn't need to spend our first round pick on a TE.
  • We would have lost out on the 3rd round pick, and Williams likely would have been our pick in the 2nd round.
  • We would have probably not selected an OL until tlhe 3rd or 4th round, and that player would not see the field this year.

You must be referring to someone else regarding the rant.

I was pointing out that Eifert was not the for sure pick at 18.

One thing that should leap out at you is the Cowboys clearly value 40 times much less than most teams and instead put much stock in agility drill scores especially the shuttle.

This has been a consistent philosophy for the past 3 years now. We will know whether or not they have identified an undervalued attribute or if they missed the mark because our roster is being molded around the concept.

I am uncertain but intrigued.
