The thing that I saw that I liked was a few of his longer throws. The knock on him was that he was a bit iffy on the intermediate and deep routes but he showed some nice accuracy on those throws Saturday night. That long TD was a great pass.

It's one game so I am not going to get ahead of myself here but first impressions were very good............... and I am far from a Prescott fan.

PS - It still bothers me that the front office really liked Connor Cook. Ewwwwww...........

Cook was the last QB candidate on my list of prospects. I'm glad he was gone.

As for Prescott, I was okay with him in the 4th round but I really wanted one of the top three prospects at #4 in the 1st round.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Cook is supposedly underwhelming for the Raiders much like Tyler Wilson did a few years ago.

Sturm mentioned the timing and placement on the screen passes. How long has it been since Dallas had a QB who executed those plays with a high level of skill? Tony has never really been known for that and Troy wasn't either. Would you have to go back all the way to Danny White?

Cook was a guy who could likely step in on day 1 and run a pro style offense as a back up. I don't think he becomes a consistent starter in the long run, but it was nearly a consensus that he would be better year 1, which quite frankly was important to us. Maybe we'll look back and the Cowboy's preference will be validated or we will think how lucky we were that the Raiders traded up. I hope we think how lucky we were, but after 1 preseason game, I'm not ready to concede that.

Cook is/was overrated. Never completed more than 60% of his passes in college.

You don't magically become accurate in the NFL.

Troy's issue, as well as Tony's during the beginning part of his career, is he had slow, plodding, but powerful o-linemen, and they just weren't good blocking screens. Wasn't really them. We've become a better screen team since the o-line started adding better athletes.

I agree and on top of that, I didn't/don't like Cook, however, I believe on the majority of teams, Cook outplays Prescott in 2016 if they were forced to start 16 games.

Wouldn't it be great if Dak is actually the one who can step in and run a pro style offense on day 1?

I think a lot of people questioned Dak's deep ball because he played in a short passing offense at MSU and video to judge him by was scarce.

Life has matured Dak as a person, which I think is a large part of what makes him such a cool customer in the packet and such a great leader. On the field he has all the physical tools it takes to be great in the NFL and he is smart. He understands the game. Two quarters in one preseason game indicates nothing about Dak's future success playing regular season NFL football. But Dak Prescott is not Justin Vaughan or Steven McGee or Chad Hutchinson or any of the other guys the Cowboys have tried to turn into real NFL QB's. Unlike those guys Dak has everything it takes to be a great one, including one of the truly great ones to watch and learn from.

I was thinking the same thing. Dak is already better than Romo on screen passes. Not sure why that aspect of the game eludes Tony.

Dak is a great story. Another QB that shows the old adage that measurables and stats alone don't suffice to evaluate a player. Guys with much higher pedigree have busted out at the NFL level-- while other guys (like Romo obviously) somehow rise to the top.

Dak looks like an athlete and a true competitor to me. He has heart, fire, and appears to be a decent leader even at this stage of his career (at least Dez thinks so).

It is only one game and his performance will likely come back to earth on Friday, but it is encouraging to see him handle the speed and pressure of the NFL as well as he did on Sat. My hope is that he makes steady progress and keeps his feet on the ground and continues to work on his game. The foundational skills are there to develop and he has the intangibles that can set him apart from the rest of this draft class.
