Dak is a great story. Another QB that shows the old adage that measurables and stats alone don't suffice to evaluate a player. Guys with much higher pedigree have busted out at the NFL level-- while other guys (like Romo obviously) somehow rise to the top.

Dak looks like an athlete and a true competitor to me. He has heart, fire, and appears to be a decent leader even at this stage of his career (at least Dez thinks so).

It is only one game and his performance will likely come back to earth on Friday, but it is encouraging to see him handle the speed and pressure of the NFL as well as he did on Sat. My hope is that he makes steady progress and keeps his feet on the ground and continues to work on his game. The foundational skills are there to develop and he has the intangibles that can set him apart from the rest of this draft class.
The knock on Dak wasnt measurables. Hos measurables were on par with a day 1 or 2 prospect. The knock on him was the offense he ran in college

Sturm mentioned the timing and placement on the screen passes. How long has it been since Dallas had a QB who executed those plays with a high level of skill? Tony has never really been known for that and Troy wasn't either. Would you have to go back all the way to Danny White?

It takes more than a qb to make a screen pass work. And we have had plenty of successful screen plays with both Troy and Romo.

I think one thing that goes overlooked is that Dak played four years in college. I'm convinced (though I can't prove it) is that unless you're one of the elite quarterbacks who come out, that last year of a four-year stint does something for your awareness and maturity.

I called Dak Prescott a glorified Tim Tebow. But Prescott is a more precise thrower than Tebow is. As you said, we judged Dak based on the short-passing offense he played in. But it wasn't like he was playing with world beaters at tight end or receiver.
LSU has turned out Beckham and Landry at wide receiver.
Alabama has Amari Cooper recently.
Ole Miss just contributed Treadwell.
Who has Miss St. produced?

I think the lack of receiving talent hurt Dak. He was basically a one-man show.

The other thing is he has the temperament to play backup and wait his turn.

I don't know if Cook will/would be as content. I heard his father had a pretty strong hand in his development. I wonder with a young David Carr, Cook's not asking out of Oakland in two to three years.
Does Oakland have another RoboQB on their hands hahaha

12-24 89 yards 0 TDs 1 pick 1 fumble looked good......accuracy was off big time. His throw on the run was decent but he didn't look good and I wasnt impressed
Had his moments. Under massive pursue. That line sucks.

My thing with Wentz now is at what point does he get the oft injured tag

Way too soon for that, but there is no question he is facing a big learning curve and needs to be on the field. Would it be ironic if he becomes Sam Bradford 2.0 less consistent college competition?

The league liked Goff, Wentz, Lynch, Brissett, Hackenberg, Kessler, and Cook.....all before Prescott.

What if we got the best of the bunch?

The possibility is as real as a 1st round pick working out. The league is made up of "mostly" "other rounders" ;-)

Hope you are right!

I just can't say it enough about Dak. He continues to improve and get better year after year unlike anything I've seen. He is such a student of the game and understands he has the tools to turn himself into a real player. Even where he was on his pro day compared to Saturday is like night and day.

Cook is/was overrated. Never completed more than 60% of his passes in college.

You don't magically become accurate in the NFL.

So overrated. The best win for his team last year was a game he didn't even play in.

I was thinking the same thing. Dak is already better than Romo on screen passes. Not sure why that aspect of the game eludes Tony.

Romo was a very mobile QB in his early years and was the best QB then out of the pocket. I guess when Garrett took over, they made changes to Tony in making him a better pocket passer.

Tony has the ability but I'm guessing is age and being injury prone has kept him less mobile then usual.

That is true-- many doubt his ability to adapt and successfully lead an NFL offense. The bottom line is that the majority of scouts placed him a couple of tiers below the top level QB prospects in this draft class-- and his performance on Sat night was a first step in proving them wrong.

PS - It still bothers me that the front office really liked Connor Cook. Ewwwwww...........

SO much ignorance. He's a great kid and a great football player. His first game at Oakland was very good...almost as good as DP's. Stop talking about people you have NO clue about. I'll virtually guarantee he ends up having a great career. Don't know about DP. He was in trouble a couple times at Miss. State. Cook was NEVER in trouble at Michigan State. Model student and player.

Troy didn't do them well either. Gotta twist that back.

I also don't think that the coaches want to expose Romo to those types of plays either. The one thing about a screen pass is that it's almost a guarantee that your QB is going to get blasted just by the nature of the play and the fact that the rusher gets a step after the QB rids himself of the ball to launch himself into the QB.

I haven't seen many successful screens when the QB didn't take one in the kisser.

Ugh I can hear it now. The moment Romo throws his first pick theirs gonna be a lot of "start dak" threads.

First thing that i noticed was his footwork, sets his feet nicely and delivers the ball. Let's not forget he has a nice build athletically for a QB, I can see some instances where he can make defenders miss in the future.

You never know but surely it helped he's been getting all the reps with 1st team and this is a potent offense behind best OL.

No doubt though best debut I can recall of a QB in Cowboy history.

Hopefully Romo will look as good .
