Not sure where you're coming up with those teams being particularly cap-strapped. I'm not sure it's true. Regardless, teams have consistently drafted, developed, and paid their own players for years, and have had success doing so. If it's been known to work for some, why would you have such a problem with it conceptually?
not cap strapped.
when i say cap strapped years, i was referring to the league before rapid cap escalation of ~$10M/yr or more due to the new tv contract.
that is a game changer particularly for us because of romo dollars.
what is the problem.
we are literally throwing away the remaining prime years for dez and 2-3 years in the heart of zeke's prime.
what else, it is totally unnecessary as we will not have enough ways to spend cap money come 2019 because of the policy.
denver and the giants showed how to take a D to the next level.
if manning was not too old, denver would be a perennial super bowl contender.
we have gone from Jerry the wild man to Stephen the bean counter.
something in between would make much more sense.
nothing wrong with developing drafted players - it is wonderful.
but it is just one means to gather talent.
it is a great way to build the foundation of the team.
the foundation is built with OL and Dak and how many probowlers in the offense?
by the time the D is fixed, it would be time to wait on the draft to replace Dez and worry about how many years is left for Zeke...
