News: Sturm: Why you shouldn't check out on the 2-6 Cowboys

Vikings isn't really a suprise. Falcons look ok but never bought their hype.

Fair enough, but there are always surprises. Some do really well and fade. Some start off poorly and soar.

Now, recovering from 2-6 isn't usual, but typically the teams that start 2-6 do so because they aren't very good not because they are missing their franchise QB. Dallas might have the problem of being not very good and missing its franchise QB, though. So the question will be can Romo provide enough of a lift to elevate the rest of the team or will the defense find its own legs to stand on when he comes back.

I am already looking forward to next year. I've checked out already...

I was checked out after week 2. I don't let rooting interest override my brain. There was simply no way the Cowboys could withstand an extended period of time without Romo. Weeden is easily the worst backup QB in the league and the trade for Cassel did nothing to change the situation.

There should be a serious backlash against the owner and his son for this wasted season. Romo is on borrowed time and to throw this season away on such a bad evaluation of talent is inexcusable but very predictable considering the sources.

I hope we lose out. 2-14 is what I root for.

I was checked out after the NO debacle. I knew right then we'd be out of it by the time Romo got back

Checked out.....more interested in the field trip JG has planned in Tampa.

Im checked out. I honestly think it would be pretty foolish to believe Romo is going to be 100% as soon as he hits the field, extended injuries don't work that way. Dallas has already proven that they are a 0-6 team without Romo, and I honestly don't want Romo to be out their risking injury again.

what if it takes him a few games to get in stride? It's not fair to put it all on Romo.

Bet anything you want Romo throws TDs first game back. It's not fair to put everything on Romo shoulders but he will and has carried the team and coaching staff

Not sure exactly what is meant by "checking out" but I do think our chances of being playoff contenders is overwhelmingly minimal. We'd have to rule supreme in our remaining games and that's expecting miracles.

Same here. I think whoever wins this division will probably have 7 losses so 8 is pushing it but either way i'm still not out especially if Romo comes back and we only have 6 or 7 losses.

I know its silly to even still have playoff hopes. But I have a intrigue of seeing if Romo can fix this mess.

When is the last time you saw a Cowboys team win eight games in a row?

Because that's probably what it going to take to make the playoffs.

You might get there with another 7 wins but even going 7-1 would be a tall order.

For me the worst outcome would be us getting to 9 wins, not making it and ending up picking 23rd/24th in the draft.

Ehhh....I have just never seen a team win 9 games and be worse off because of it. Its all probably moot. They may very well lose out WITH Romo. No one knows at this point.

This is why i'm so burned about this year. The NFL is full of crappy teams. Any team with half a heartbeat has a chance.

With Romo, we had a chance, and I guarantee we'd be 7-1 right now if we had him. Heck, maybe he beats the Pats, but you never know.

Burns my Soul!

So tell me how we'd be better off winning 9 games this year and missing on the playoffs as opposed to doing badly enough to pick in the top 10 and getting a chance to draft a QB like Jared Goff?

They need to beat Tampa. Just have too. Don't care how they do it, just beat Tampa. Get Romo back, win out..

this team has talent in places, but it will not win until romo gets back.

The Browns have sucked year in and out and have gotten 1st overall picks and have picked in the top 5 nearly every year. The Lions have picked nearly top 10 every year and they picked Matt Stafford. Some teams lose and can never win again. I believe football is psychological as well as physical and once you inherit a losing culture you'll never get rid of it.

Don't worry. Romo will come back, win a few games, and make us believe that we're ready to 2016.

We'll bring in some lame former-1st round bust as backup QB ... someone who Jerry thinks could manage the ship for a game or two.

Well if you look at the last 20 years in Dallas can we say we’re that much better than either of those two teams?

After all the Lions and ourselves both had winning seasons last year and we beat them in the playoffs.

Doesn’t seem to have rubbed off on either team this year does it?

Ive checked out. They just arent that good. Too many things didnt go our way. Too many of the wrong calls on tough decisons...

But, I look at the schedules of Wash,NY, Philly. And I think, if one of those teams wins more then 8, it would be a small miracle...

stranger things have happened ! I will leave it at that.

Now, back to my general discontent and bad attitude fueled by two decades of not going to a Super Bowl.

It very well may be over, but like someone said earlier, until the Cowboys are mathematically eliminated, I still have hope

We won 13 games this year and probably would've won 10-11 games this year had it not been for injuries.
